Transporter Double sliding & single swivel seat base from Rusty Lee, plus handbrake lowering Kit

We love the Rusty Lee swivel seat bases here at Transporter HQ. Rusty Lee have now made the ultimate swivel seat system with their new sliding swivel. These make the swivelling process so much easier, plus multiple seat positions for relaxing and dining.
In this video we show you how to fit both double and single swivel seat bases plus the Transporter HQ handbrake lowering bracket and plastic cover. Lowering the handbrake is needed when fitting a driver swivel seat to allow for the seat to turn without fowling the handbrake. Our lowering bracket is not like some of cheap options on the market that bend and flex.
The textured plastic cover replaces the existing cover to give an OEM finish with the lowering / relocation bracket.

Put mine in yesterday. Really straightforward, good bit of kit will make a big difference having the different positions. Having the retaining screws on the outside of the seat is great, saves having to lift the seat every time you want to move it. Was glad of the video as i couldn't find any instructions in the box.

Got mine yesterday and fitted it today, previously had the just campers one and have to say in everyway its better, very heavy tho but feels more sturdy. Very easy to fit and while at it I decided to relocate the fuse for the cab cigarette lighter. Only bad bits I could tell were 1. Its alot higher than the original 2. The seat sits slightly further forward Now I guess its time to get seat base which is lower by 2 inches but its another £300 Also a great excuse to get the tilted seat bracket

Yes the lift is the down side to all swivel bases. Shortened bases are expensive but will solve it.

I didn’t realise there were two types and got the old one as bought from rusty and only one on their site. So before I buy another on does it allow you to push it all the way back to the dash to allow a child to sleep with drivers not swiveled but double swivelled

Very informative video. When I saw the lowering bracket for the handbrake I thought it might make it easier to swivel the passenger seat that pushes the handbrake. I called THQ to confirm and they said it does make it easier. However after buying and fitting there's no benefit for swiveling the passenger seat, actually made it worst. So lowering kit only necessary for adding a swivel plate to driver's seat. Anyone want a lowering kit? Otherwise happy with everything else I buy from THQ.

Great video, thank you! This may be a daft idea but...would it be possible to replace the front seats of a Dacia Duster with swivel seats? My daughter is into slalom kayak racing, and we will need to travel more for this. So far, we have camped in a tent, but this is often impractical (esp out of season) so I'm looking at alternatives. We can't afford a campervan but need a new car anyway and are considering a Duster. I know there are options for putting a bed inside, but would prefer a roof tent to sleep in so we still have room for all the slalom gear. Just wondering whether there is some way to get a small seating area with table in the back of the car, to have somewhere to hang out. Any advice you can give on this would be much appreciated!

Hello, I doubt it. There is likely not enough room for the seats to swivel without hitting someone else.

I have a kiravans swival which is a pain to use. Does this complicate the installation? I assume I would need to remove the Kiravans plate. Also how much higher does this move the seat up by? Finally, I have a Transporter 6.1 van is it compatible. Many thanks.

Stupid question and I think you already mentioned it. Can you fit and use an ovano passenger swivel table this swivel base. Or will it catch when you slide it backwards into the cab? Tia 🤙

Just fitted mine today, love it. But does anyone know why or where the 2 black metal brackets with holes in go? They look like the go under the seat base at the front but then the seat is on a tilt.

They won't go anywhere else due to the spacing. I guess it's to mitigate some of the height increase.

The plate blocks access to the wiring which comes up from the floor for a double. Single might be possible, but maybe not with slide.

The sliding swivel version doesn't no. It would hit the rear seats when swivelling. The standard rusty Lee double swivel does though.

Couple of questions. How much higher does the bench seat sit from standard?? Looks a considerable amount. Also does it cause the seat to lean back. I have a 10degree vankraft bracket on my bench currently and im worried with the seat base its going to lean too far back as i read somewhere the swivels add some rake to the rear of the seat. Any help would be appreciated Thanks :)

Hello, yes the seat will be 35mm higher. It doesn't change the angle, I would still use the vankraft bracket

Just received mine today and installed the double swivel sliding base. I was replacing a swivel only and I find this one so much better. But what I have noticed is when pushing the seat back to driving position. The seat hits the three bolt holes of the base (where the two bolts, bolt into). Any ideas why this is happening? I can tilt the seat back but it’s not as smooth as I thought it would be.

I did and no it’s not possible, I do think their is one on the market that sort of slides out of the door but I’ve just left it as my double passenger drops forward flat

Do you need to disconnect the battery if you’re disconnecting the seat airbag wires?

Yes ideally you would want to disconnect the battery as if anyone turned on the ignition with bits disconnected, it could give you a dash warning light that would need clearing.

Not that I'm aware of. You can with singles, just not doubles. There would be no way to route the wires.

Yes the rusty Lee doubles can. Others have the fixings bolts inside so you have to remove everything before you swivel.

@6581punk my lastest problem in fitting the swivel base is my double seat has an airbag fitted. I have tried connecting a 3.0 ohm resistor but carista said the resistance was too high. I now have a 2.7 ohm resistor to try 🤞

No the sliding swivel doesn't work with Kombi seats as it would hit the rear seats when turning. The standard Rusty Lee double swivel will work with Kombi seats though no problem
