just fitted one last few days. best bet in a full build is funnily enough to do everything all as one. ie 1. remove ply/insulate and cut out windows, 2. take out seats, 3 remove bulkhead and bulkhead holding brackets, 4. remove seat belt cobers and seatbelt bolts. 5 remove sliding door seal.. now carpet the van around door and window cut outs, using the plastic trim covers and door seals to get neat tidy edges, you can leave the rest for now its just the perfect time to do this bit of carpeting while seat is allready out and seatbelt trims off. now fit your seatbelts back, now fit your swivel, fit back your seat, now fit windows and finish carpet either tucked over and poked into mastic gap or use a trim. finish the rest of your carpeting including ceiling, with lights and cables. nowfit some vynil. thats ya done about 50% of a build now if your buying in ready made rnr bed and units give yourself a week to do it. ot to bad really.

Great video thank you, really appreciate the detailed explanations. As in the video my van has one fuse under the double seat, any idea what this does? Is there a top tip for making it accessible in case of failure - rather than removing the double seat and swivel in case of failure ?

I would suggest that the wiring loom for the heated seat be extended and routed so as it doesnt get caught up. Alternatively it could be made to be unplugged for when the seat spins.

Inspirational these video's this one gave me the confidence to do the job myself, Lee you're brilliant at getting your point across...good communicator! Now only one thing I am now worried about is the wiring I cabled tied it as you recommended and layed it along the trench, now what if I need to access this section of the wiring? what do those connectors and wiring do?

They are very very Ratley needed to be accessed. On of the fuses is for the cigar lighter, but tbis can be relocated. If you do ever need to access the wiring, you have 16 nuts to remove, pull out the seat and base, then replace once you've finished :)

Yes it is. In fact there is more as you've removed the wiring and plastic covers!

You can fit the heater under the drivers side floor and mount the battery under the drivers seat

The screw locks are on the outside so i would say not necessarily. I have found under the seat is good for a small breakdown kit, a first aid kit, and a couple of hi-vis jackets.

Thanks for a excellent,comprehensive tutorial. One of the dials on base l have just fitted won’t screw in. I think the plate hole thread needs a bit of tlc with a tap. Apparently the bolt is an M14. Do you happen to know the pitch? (2mm?) Thanks again

Is that seat the same as the Sprinter/Crafter? It has a very similar fold forward seat pad, which makes it impossible to use the normal top plate type swivel.

It's not I'm afraid. You may have to look elsewhere for a crafter/sprinter version

Hi, it should be reverse or 1st gear as these offer the lowest back ratio gearing not fifth gear. The back ratio of 5th gear makes it easy to overcome engine compression 👍 Did you get away with not burning holes in the seat and seat belt from the sparks flying all over ? You need some fire mat👍

Old hands know by experience what irreversible damage red hot sparks can do to seats, carpets, trim, glass and your eyes. I agree... use first & reverse

Just installed ours. We had the same issue as others regarding the passenger side front nut not lining up but got it sorted now. Most importantly my hand break really gets in the way when trying to turn the seat around. it takes a lot of pushing and shoving and i can't see it being a long term solution. Any ideas?

Sadly not. Although you can change the double to a single and get swivel bases for single seat

Compliment for the video. I have done everything correctly and everything works but if I pull the additional bolts for fixing the seat too much, the plate does not turn anymore. Why? Don't I have to tighten the seat fixing bolts so much? Thank you.

If the mounting surface is warped, the the base bay not swivel. Ensure that all bolts/studs are at the same level.

@@CombeValleyCampers Thanks for the reply. I used washers to fill in the difference and now is better but... if I tighten the bolts a lot the seat is difficult to rotate, so I screwed them less and insert self-locking washers.

Hi Leigh ..I fitted the same ..Rusty lee double seat for my T5...BUT its really tight with my VW captain drivers seat which has the resting arms ! Any ideas ? Also I leave the seat facing the rear (jus easier for me when i dont have passengers) which means no space to even adjust the reclining turn knob of my drivers seat ..Any ideas ??

For some reason mines not dropping onto the nuts, any suggestions? It won't drop onto all 8 at the same time if that makes sense its catching on either the front or the rear no matter how I try & place it on

This sometimes happens. All seat bases are created equal however the studs in the floor get knocked. I suggest you wind a nut onto each offending stud, then gently tap in the right direction with a hammer. It won't affect any safety or security, its just sometimes they need a nudge in the right direction. Leigh

I managed to fit the base this morning. To say that it tried my patience is a bit of an understatement lol. Now I can't manage to rotate the seats to the rear as they're catching on the plastic seat belt pillar. Starting to wish I hadn't bothered getting one now 😥

Sliding? Do you mean adjustable to the seat can be pulled forward and back like a single seat? I personally feel there wouldn't be much demand for that.

There is a 40mm height different which is noticable, but you can buy lower seat bases, or have yours professionally reduced in height.

lmao ,you dont have to open the door and get the interior wet !! just as long as your sat in the back of the van to begin with... a single swivel captain seat is more practical allowing you to access the back via the middle of the 2 seats ,that way you wouldnt need to open the doors in the rain or have someone sat in the back to turn the double seat lolol
