Its been since '93 that i hauled O.D. loads. Still got my \\\ D /// signs for Canada hanging in the garage here in Indiana. My first time getting to Montreal piers was a nightmare. Turned onto the wrong Notre-Dame street and ended up downtown with no where to go. Could see the river to my right through the buildings block by block but couldn't make the turns on just 6 axles, 3 axle beavertail. Had a small wheel loader on. Ended up at dead end with a street to the right pointing down to the river and to make the turn ended up unchaining and moving the machine on the deck then rechained. Got the funniest looks from the beat cops wearing their derby hats as i went on up Notre-Dame. Never forget that one!

The 3000 and 4000 Series Allison Transmission will outperform any other brand of HD & MD commercial automatic and a manual transmission period! Even though they have 6-7 gears depending on application they actually perform very well when pulling 150k lb gcvw loads. I have driven the Allison equipped truck pulling a 95k car crusher over the mountains in CA and our other truck was equipped with an 18spd. Both trucks were Pete’s with a 600 ISX 15 Cummins and the Allison performance was superior over the 18speed. It’s hard to believe but the 6 gears performance was better than the 18 speed. Fuel mileage was better too.
@luckybananaheavyhaul3407
@luckybananaheavyhaul3407 Жыл бұрын
@BIGDAVE5352 I will argue some of that. I agree with you that the Allison is very capable. It’s doing a great job shifting smoothly even with heavy weight. However my experience with comparing to a manual is that the manual is superior. There is a short video posted on this channel where I compare the two. I ran for a week with the Allison beside the 18 speed with the exact same load and trailer configuration. Not only was he pushing me on the hills but at the end of the week de burned $500 less fuel. Some of the comparison might be lost in rear end gearing. The truck I was comparing to was running 4.10 (perfect for the weight we were pulling) . If I compared to a guy running 3.70 might be a different outcome.
@giork2828
@giork2828 11 ай бұрын
@@luckybananaheavyhaul3407with all due respect sir, you might benefit from learning the concept of parametric study. When you compare a truck with say manual 18 4.10 driver A with another truck with auto 7 3.90 driver B, you shall not draw any conclusions about auto vs. manual, gearing ratios and so on (same for fuel consumption: it’s like saying the orange truck took more fuel than a green one). On another front, when people say a good auto will perform better than a regular manual, that’s usually a perception of the ease of operation of said transmission (or lack thereof) or an overreaction due to the surprise they have when they notice that the auto can perform “well enough”. Hope this doesn’t sound harsh; just offering my informed 2 cents. 🤘

What a haul! But you and your team sure handled it like a pro! Now, got some questions on the truck? What year, make and model, engine and transmission? I could be wrong, but it sounds like this one has the Allison 4700 RDS 7 speed automatic! Personally, I'm an Allison guy, I just love hearing the shift patterns of Allison transmissions, especially the heavy duty Allisons. Now, I have an idea. Can you please do several completely unedited ASMR's of this rig, starting off with engine startup at the beginning, high RPM shifting from the Allison, and engine shutdown at the end? Make sure the ASMR's are completely uncut - no edits, no music, just pure engine sounds the whole way. ASMR videos help me fall asleep, and I'd love several on an Allison like this one! Please also make them as long as possible with the best audio, such as whatever camera you were using for the first few clips after describing the load, the audio from that is just amazing! For me, the longer the ASMR's the better! Please let me know ASAP, and keep on truckin'!

Hows that Allison trans treating you? I loved how durable they are and they fact that they can handle just about any haul, but even with the right gears, I feel like they could never maintain speed on even the slightest hills. I can see with you probably close to 150K, it was a chore to maintain 50mph. We grossed 80 to 90K with our 550hp Cummins and Allison 4700 and Id be down in 3rd gear 40mph on a 3% grade in no time. Mean while our older eaton trucks could power up at 60 or more. The Allison sure was fun when bobtailing though. Truck felt like a rocket ship. And you cant fault the amazing off the line torque when loaded.

How does one get into heavy haul. I’m 64. Been driving for 40 years. Owner operator for the last 27 years. I’m selling my truck and want to get into oversized loads. Eventually heavy haul. Thanks
@luckybananaheavyhaul3407
@luckybananaheavyhaul3407 Жыл бұрын
The easy answer is find companies who do oversize in your area and start applying! Be ready to start at the bottom and work your way up. Try to find a company that does small oversize as well as big stuff. That way you can work your way up without switching companies.

Boats cost a lot of money!!! They don’t detour to every port and drop off one cargo at a time. The boats usually only make 2 or 3 stops and it is up to the trucks and railroad to distribute the goods. Baltimore was the closest port of call for this boat.
