Doug, I have watched all of your videos and have gotten a better appreciation for the delivery of the oversize loads that you carry. The company that I worked for before I retired almost 2 yrs ago was involved in the engineering of sorts utility projects including power generation, transmission & distribution. Many of these projects involved transformers, generators, turbines of many forms, power distribution centers as you showed moving in this video and wind turbine components. While I was in college I interned at a Caterpillar factory that built the full line of wheel loaders & excavators. The care you take in delivering all this equipment to its destination to it's final customer is your part in helping insure that the equipment can be placed in service without delay. Thanks for the work that you do and the videos showing a part of the story that was missing for me. The color tour on this video was exceptional, but I enjoy them all.

Hi Douglas - last summer I escorted my nephew on his cross Canada bike ride for MS… Coming into St. John’s NFLD we stopped on the highway shoulder to allow him to pass when I noticed an over size load coming up behind us… We had a big red RV with lights flashing… The load was placed like yours with a significant portion over the shoulder…. I thought he was going to hit us!!! But at the last minute he pulled over - Thank God!!! I noticed that his escort was only a few feet ahead of him… It is great for the public to see how professionals like you think way ahead and plan for the unexpected to keep people safe!!! Here in the UK, all motorway bridges are 16ft 6inches or higher. All other bridges on normal roads varies considerably. Really need to do homework for heavy haulage. In fact,TomTom has a model solely for lorries which includes height restriction roads. So wish we had roads like your H518. Mile after mile of nothing, but scenery. By the way, I noticed that when you started off, the trees were green (summer), and now at H518, it's autumn😂😂😂

Thought it was a gorgeous, familiar road and then around 1:05:30 I recognized it. There's a cool statue of Janusz Żurakowski, first pilot of the Avro Arrow if I recall. Personal curiosity, do you enjoy the challenges more of the long-load hauls, or the wide hauls?
@luckybananaheavyhaul34079 ай бұрын
I didn’t have time to appreciate the tribute to the pilot but as an airplane junky I did notice the Aveo Arrow! The best challenge are all of the above! Wide, long, high, heavy 💪. But it is all relative depending on your route and equipment used… I’ve had smaller loads that were actually more challenging because of the small roads we were routed on. As with some really long loads we will use rear steerable trailers making them actually easier to navigate than shorter non steerable trailers. Bigger doesn’t always mean more challenging 🤷🏼♂️

That's a beautiful drive, though I expect your viewers enjoyed it more than you could driving that twisty road. It looks like you got better fall color this year than we did in the western North Carolina mountains. The 4k shots from your rear-facing cameras were just spectacular on a large monitor. Sadly the ones from the front-facing camera in the truck not so much. It looks like it focuses on the hood, and everything beyond is out of focus. I have no clue whether that can be fixed, but it would be great if it could be.

Hey Doug- Another excitant run. Liked threading the flower pots. I would have been in hog heaven on that country road with no traffic. Nothing like being a little offset for weight. I had one once that I had to put the left side of the box right on the left edge of the trailer and still leaned a little. But it was good that I was only 12'. Being a Canadian only run, how was it that the escorts had Oversize Load signs instead of Red and White striped signs? Have a good day.

Thanks for another interesting video. I enjoy watching the way you manage those oversize loads through some pretty tight spaces. It seems that most of the traffic is pretty understanding of your needs for taking those wide turns and multiple lanes. But I am sure you also have those stupid, inconsiderate drivers that cause real headaches. At the risk of offending some of your viewers, I would bet your biggest headaches are caused by inconsiderate motorcyclists, that are too impatient to allow you to get your job done safely.

Can you lift the pin on tractor third axle if you need to in a tight turn?
@luckybananaheavyhaul34079 ай бұрын
Yes this truck is equipped with an airlift. However that is one of the disadvantages of a “pin on” axle. Because it is positioned at the rear of the truck when it is lifted it actually reduces weight on the front steering. That’s fine on dry asphalte but in snow or mud or any reduced traction circumstances you can no longer steer the truck. Real factory built 4 axle trucks have a lift axle towards the center of the truck which has the opposite effect adding weight to the steering when lifted and is much nicer in reduced traction circumstances
@gregbridges23659 ай бұрын
@@luckybananaheavyhaul3407 good to know never thought of reducing weight on steer axel the lowboy tractor I have in our division is a forward lift non steer axel (270” wb ) I was thinking with pin on rear we could get shorter turning radius but taking weight off steers negates that
