One thing I love about Ray's skating besides all the obvious stuff, is how tech and how big he went with his tricks in the 90's. He evolved with the times but still maintained his style and vibe. LEGEND indeed.

There's so much in Ray to admire. All that talent and he's a genuine humble guy and really happy. Total inspiration.

I met Ray at a skate comp in Orange, Tx. When I was 11 yrs old. Nicest soul you'll ever meet. Instantly became my favorite skater. Still is. His Powell Hydrant deck is my unicorn. Best board I had as a kid. Now I'm 41.. I will find it !

This made me so happy to watch. And Ray's definitely deserving of the "legend" status. I'd love to meet him one day and just tell him thank you for making a weird black kid feel normal for being into unconventional things.

Myke C-Town Crazy seeing you here! I love your reviews, been a fan of dead end hip hop for a long time, but I definitely agree, one of my first boards was a Ray Barbee pro model, he made me feel like I belonged as a black skateboarder.

I went to school with him. There were literally only two "black" (I'm biracial) skaters at our school. I know I got made fun of for skating and surfing, by both blacks and whites. I'm sure he did too. But, we did it anyway. Ray would kill it on the way to school, all casual style (just like in the vid). Cool that he inspired you guys and helped change the BS stereotype that black guys can't skate or surf.

I met him.. Super chill man. Legendary !! Well..to be honest. I only asked for his autograph. But he seemed more than happy to give it to me. So was Tony Hawk.

That’s cool man. I’m 45 and grew up skating in that era. I had the his pro model but have no idea what become of it. I used to always sell my old boards when I needed a new one. I wish I had some of those classics: lance mountain , tommy Guerro flame dagger, ray barbee, and several H street boards. I still skate but am pretty careful as the body seems a lot more fragile nowadays 🤙🏽

Ray was a big influence on this kid in Liverpool England. Not been skating too long when public domain came out. He stood out to me. Who didn't want to cruise down street like barbee could?

Yes! My friends and myself will ask the question, what skater would you like to spend the afternoon with , and I always had said Ray.. well Tony of course too but how cliche'. Ray seems like such a rad individual, and there too, I'm a white dude inspired by this guy and that's what's awesome about skateboarding.. We don't say shit like "first African American to do" anything in skateboarding. There is no color/nationality.. it's just who's rad and stands out and especially, positively :) Cheers, Ray!! You're the man!!
