Ray Barbee, the most pleasant man on earth.

Ray Barbee seems like such a cool person. I don't think I've ever seen a video of him mad or upset. He has the best style. I think anyone that has seen Public Domain naturally leans towards Ray's part as a favorite.

Two legends. I got a Guerrero pro model for Christmas when I was in 7th grade, still have the photo holding the blue board with flaming dagger. I later had the ray Barbie pro model a couple of years later. Ray seems like a super chill and down to earth guy.

I really needed this video today y'all. I had an art show last night and despite all my hard work ('the process') only like 10-15 people showed up. It's rough. But like you guys said it's all about "getting back up" and trying again. Thanks.

I come back to this every few months when I'm in need of an intelligent, thoughtful conversation about skateboarding by childhood heros. It can't be Grosso all the time every time.

I started skating in the early 90s and my favorite skaters at that time were Steve Caballero, Guy Mariano, Ray Barbee, Rodney Mullen and Lance Mountain. One time I was at Desert West Skatepark in Phoenix, Arizona, at like 11 Am on a week day which I lived maybe a block away from at the time, and I met Lance Mountain and Ray Barbee. I immediately recognized them and rushed home to get my Public Domain video for both of them to sign. Ray looked at the cover of the tape for a long time before he signed it. I think they were surprised because I was one of the only other people at the park at the time and I recognized them instantly. They both really made my day at the time, but Ray left a huge impact on me because of how long he spent looking at the cover before signing it. Ray, you made one of my skateboarding dreams come true. Keep skating!

Great show as always! Hope to see more soon. Speaking of Old School MTV, remember I.R.S. The Cutting Edge? That's where all the good "alternative" bands were showcased. I think it was on 1 Sunday a month or something. They would also show skate clips occasionally. We waited with bated breath to see any kind of skate culture on TV in those days.

This is Awesome! I have been playing music for over 20 years. I just started listening to Foreigner. I heard them a lot as a kid. I did not know what it was. I have been writing Double Vision over and over for years! Love me some AC/DC and No Comply!

"The process is everything." - "4-track is your best friend." ...so many good quotes and ideas in this. I've always been a music guy and was a latecomer to the skate thing, but just like the carrying lessons from skating to music or other endeavors, I've dug as deep into skating history as I can. The best thing I ever did as a musician was break out of the narrow minded confines of the genres that got me started and started exploring all types of music and the history of music. Same applies for skating, you really gotta know your roots to fully appreciate what you're doing and to be the best you can be. From a critical standpoint, it's sad to see the modern skate scene dominated by so many trends, stylistic rules, and conformity, which in my take on things is actually antithetical to what skateboarding has always been about. The reason I've always really loved Ray and Natas is because they're parts were always like a "point a to point b" type thing where you just shredded whatever on the way. The bottom line is it was always about rolling. Going to the pure roots in surfing, it was about catching that wave. Off The Grid has always been a favorite because it follows that ideal. Skateboarding is about more than just tricks. And a good push with maximum style means everything, imo. It seems like the more time that goes on, the more skating is becoming a sport. And the more sport it gets, the more jock mentality rules it. That's why the main thing that endears me to Jay Adams is not only that he was a killer at skating, but that when the business took precedent, he just walked away from it. To me, that's what makes Jay Adams a legend. :)

Sprout was a great movie. I still love Year of the Monkey and In Full View. 2005 was a good year! TG - I remember sending you a myspace message (ha! that thing) telling you how much I dug that EP. Made my day when you came back wanting to know how I came across it. Which made sense cause I lived way off on Australia's lower left butt cheek.
