As a child, I was so enamored of this character that, for Halloween, I created my own Trap-Jaw costume. The bionic "arm" was my own arm wrapped in black construction paper. The laser was a cardboard box with light sticks glued to it that fit over my hand. The remainder of the costume consisted of a football helmet with a red paper "jaw" taped over the face guard. Man, I wish I had a picture of it.

You did not mention Trapjaw's first appearance in the Masters of the Universe comic book. He was escaping security in the future when Skelator opened a time portal, from the past, to try and enter Castle Grayskull in that future. While Trapjaw was escaping the soldiers, he was sliding down a rope, and hit Skelator. Trapjaw then fell into a second portal Skelator had opened with then purpose of going into Grayskull. Skelator then returned to the past to find out his plan worked only Trapjaw came out of Greyskull controlling the castles power. Skelator had to join forces with HeMan to defeat Trapjaw. When they cut of Trapjaws connnection to the castles power Skelator tried to take the power for himself only for the castle to quickly shut itself off from Skeltor. Defeated again Skeltor left but decided to take Trapjaw with him as a new minon.

I was a young kid when Masters of the Universe first came out, 6 or 7 years old . I can't remember if it was the toy commercial or the cartoon that first shoved them into my face but when they did, it was ALL I could focus on (was diagnosed with ADD I'm my teens many years later, I'm an OG so it didn't have the H yet). It was the only thing that I wanted, and I was RELENTLESS about it. My parents were younger at the time, I was the first kid. We were typical young lower middle class/working class, so I certainly couldn't just get whatever I wanted so I had to work it. I am 46 and to this day I can still remember the little ditty I sang; nonstop; all day, every day. It was basically just singing "He-man/He-man", with a three note melody. Not good, but I made up for the low quality of the song with a high quantity of performances. You know how it's hard to judge how much time went by for anything when you were young; it felt like I did it for 8 months but it was probably closer to 6 weeks. My father was the kind of parent that didn't want to just give you something because you want it, so it he needed a reason. We had a science fair and he came afterwards when the parents could come. I didn't win or anything, but he told me that I did better than the winner (who's father made the Volcano model he used, my model of a how a diaphragm works to draw in air wasn't impressive, but I actually did it). My father also wasn't the kind to tell you that you did a great job when you really did, at all. "Praise from Caesar," and all that. When we got home he told me he needed help getting stuff from the trunk and handed me a K.B Toys bag. I could see the top of the "Mas" for MOTU and exploded like an aerosol canister in a fireplace. It would only be matched in excitement level almost 5 years later on the Christmas that I received my first Nintendo. Anyways, a year or two later Trap-jaw had come out. It was only after the original He-man that it was the action figure I wanted the most. None of my friends had one, we all wanted him, but they just weren't in stores around us. My grandmother ended up getting me one when he happened to be in a department store near her house several towns over. It was awesome. I know that first story of irrelevant but I haven't even thought of MOTU in probably decades before seeing this thumbnail. I never read any of these comics, they're much better than anything the cartoon did. I realized once I eschewed toys for heavy metal that they were just half hour long commercials.

I also really enjoyed the Origins of Trap Jaw in the great German audio drama series from the eighties. Orko discovers it in a dream-like vision. The good-natured armourer Jaw saves a child from being run over by a tank, but is run over himself in the process. The driver is none other than Skeletor, who decides to take the seriously injured man with him. He equips him with a new arm and a new jaw, reprograms his brain and calls him Trap Jaw from now on.

To me if i was to do my Take on Trapjaw In my Reboot for He-man I would've had him be the uncle of Skeletor as well as the son of Adi and the older brother of Saryn as i would've had Skeletor race based on celtic warriors and would always have Trapjaw as the steppenwolf to skeletor forces

i remember an cassette i was listening about 30 years ago, when Trapjaw was kind of a blacksmith, and Skeletor hurt him badly with a tank he was driving. Trapjaw lost his arm and jaw and Skeletor gave him a new jaw of steel and a new mechanical arm and named him Trapjaw.

In the german cassette tapes from the 80s the story behind Trap Jaw was this... "Jaw" was a mechanic who saved a kids life from a "shark-like tank" in which Skeletor was driving. Jaw got under the Land Shark and was massively injured, especially the jaw. Skeletor "saved" him by giving him his infamous bite.

I noticed this video just skipped over Trapjaw's appearances in the 2002 He-Man series; a bit annoying; especially since that also means you didn't get a chance to talk about the quest for Eternium in the 2002 He-Man that Stratos and Trapjaw went on; Eternium in the 2002 He-Man series was a unique metal that when properly processed could withstand even the most potent mystical attacks, and there's a scene in the episode where Trapjaw thinks he was given a chance to eat Eternium with Stratos trying to stop him, only to learn it was a completely different metal called "Deuterium," which actually caused his body to have adverse effects after eating it, there are also a few episodes of the 2002 He-man series where we see him as Kronos, but he is never really mentioned by name in-series by that moniker.

The 2002 series mostly did an awesome job with him, though I personally thought the episode you mentioned, "Trust," was a little disappointing. I'd have liked a little more character development for Trap- Jaw and Stratos in that story. I have an idea for a possible fanfic in which Trap- Jaw and Ram- Man (My favorite heroic character in the series) are stuck together in a situation and actually do learn more about each other. It would end with the two of them not exactly becoming friends but at least developing a little more understanding and possibly respect towards each other as they part ways (Sort of a "You've given me some stuff to think about" ending).

When I was fan-casting my MOTU movie back in 2017, I gave Trapjaw a back story. He was actually a soldier in King Randor's forces but was horribly wounded in battle. Skeletor's forces capture him and Skeletor brainwashes him into joining him. He uses a mix of magic and technology to fix Trapjaw which causes his skin to change colors. I also kept the back story of Skeletor being Keldor, King Randor's half brother.

From an 80s cartoon that, like many other 80s cartoons, were really long advertisements for their toys to now being interesting fictional characters in their own fictional universe... Trapjaw has gone from lame kids' crap to being a really great character... joining the same club as most of the MotU characters.

In the Netflix show, i found that Trap Jaw was low key pretty horrible as a person. After poor Ork-0 is having an existencial crisis, this asshole walks in and decides to profit from it by sending him in override mode, like that's the equivalent of finding someone depressed ready to jump of a bridge and telling him "Hey, since you're gonna kill yourself, might as well giving me the keys to your car."

is that footage from the He-Man Netflix show? I never watched it, as I heard it didn't even have He-Man in it, and was a bait and switch. It was pretty hard not to watch it, as He-Man was such a large part of my early childhood. Western media is going down the crapper though, and maybe through not consuming it, we can help to eventually get things back on track again. I don't have Netflix any more. In fact I don't pay for any streaming services these days, because I feel it's supporting the very thing that is destroying all of our favourite IP's. I almost exclusively only buy and play indie games as well (with some exceptions, but if I buy a AAA it's usually years after release, for very cheap on Steam. The exceptions being stuff like Elden Ring, and other great Japanese stuff like Nier Automata, most things from Platinum games TBH. They have had misses in recent years, but there stuff in general is amazing. Bayonetta is still the best beat 'em up game, IMO) I think the future of games is mostly in the AA space though. Stuff like Warhammer Chaos Gate and the Marvel Midnight Suns are prime examples. These sorts of AA, PC games are the future IMO for western games. Japan will take over the AAA space, all all their stuff coming out is amazing (at least appears to be, so far) where as we've went into full parody-mode in the west, with a lot of aspects of games (and lets not forget that the format of western AAA games has been stale for a long time now anyway. The hideous-looking characters going so far, it's like a parody is just the cherry on top, that will inevitably also serve as the final nail. I don't even think there even is an audience for these games, and as the broader audience discovers these new Japanese games, or get into PC gaming and Discover the AA space, the Western AAA paradigm that we are currently in is going to die-hard. Sorry, went on a bit of a tangent, but this is how I see this moving forward. The new Japanese games that were announced look amazing, where as the Western stuff has gotten even worse, and went even further down the rabbit hole weird pandering to an imaginary group. It's bizarre. We honestly had the gaming world by the short and curlies. Games like Oblivion on Console cemented the west as having took over the RPG-landscape as well. We completely squandered it, and now it seems like we're actively trying to destroy everything (all media is being attacked, where things that are not important, take the centres stage, and actual good writing and acting is not even a concern any more) If you told me that in 2023, Marvel and Star-Wars would be where they are, I'd have never believed you. They were dead-cert's, absolute cash cows. How do you mess that up? You don't, you destroy it on purpose. and why? because the distraction caused by doing this, and the ongoing online drama is more valuable than the products doing well. it keeps them in the cultural zeitgeist for a lot longer than just having a good movie. and that's the basic, logical explanation. We could go into how this is social engineering, and quite possibly an orchestrated process to undermine the west, but then maybe that's too much for now... a little a time, and hopefully people will listen and start to think about these things, then start to notice it, too.
