Trap to Table: So Many Crabs... and Fish... and Clams

Blue Crabs. In this video, I'll be crabbing using two-ring crab traps rigged with pyramid weights and baited with chicken legs in West Ashley, Charleston, South Carolina . It's April 5th and the weather was perfect and the crabbing was excellent. After crabbing for about 3 hours, I ended up with quite a few nice blue crabs.
In the video, I will also show:
-- How to cook blue crabs.
Recipe to Steam Crabs:
Step 1:
Pour 1/4 cup vinegar into steaming pot.
Add enough water to stay below your steaming rack.
Add desired spices, I use Old Bay, Garlic Powder, and crushed Bay Leaves
Bring water to a boil
Step 2:
Layer crabs onto the steaming rack.
Add seasoning to each layer before putting the next layer on top.
Repeat until all crabs are in the steaming pot.
Step 3:
Remove from pot and put on a plate.
Option A: Serve and enjoy
Option B: Let cool and then refrigerate overnight.
After cooling overnight, pick and store.

As a guy who just moved from Maryland down to the Carolinas, it did my heart well to see steamed blue crabs. However to contrary believe, we don't like Old Bay when steaming crabs. (We'll use it everywhere else!) My favorite crab seasoning is JO #2, which has a hotter blend of peppers, and a different blend of spices, to allow mustard and celery seed to come through. Also, we use a beer and water ratio for steaming (though it's not the beer we drink with them. Save the good stuff!)

Indeed, I'm from central PA near York. We'd get a couple bushels of hard shells from Baltimore almost every summer and have a family reunion, picking crabs all day and night. Great times and wonderful memories. JO is good and I throw a beer in the water from time to time as well. Thanks for watching!
