Next visit to Boot Key, use Native Taxi. It's $8 to go most anywhere within a 4 mile radius. We were moored there for two years, '21 - '23. Went exploring in the backcountry of the Keys in November and had to return to Marathon for warranty issues - only to find the marina full. We were at anchor, outside the entrance to Boot Key, from November 28 until today, when we moved to Vaca Bight for the big blow. If we had known you were coming, we would have baked you a cake. Yes we learned from the cruiser net and fellow sailboaters the next morning about the taxi service and rides to the airport. Sorry we missed you, we would have loved a cake in the gloomy (to us) weather.

Having sailed those waters, (all be it in the early 70’s). I would say be happy you are sailing, or motoring with the current. Sailing south can be a pain in the ***.✌️
@sailorama11 ай бұрын
Yeah, should be an interesting experience heading south against the current...

I think we paid $100 for 7 days at the City Marina and that includes the use of the showers and laundry facility plus an address for shipping packages. Not too bad.
@sailorama11 ай бұрын
Wow! That seems like they gave you a deal. They didn’t have room for us at the dock either though. $25 per day was just too steep for us to paddle nautical mile + only to get a shower.

My boat was caught on film in boot key harbor. If I would have know you where here, I could have given you a ride. I'm getting my Tayana 52 S/V LOOKFAR, Ready for the Caribbean.
@sailorama11 ай бұрын
Neat! We were there very quickly because of the complication of getting to land, would have loved to have met more folks there - perhaps we’ll see you in the Caribbean sometime!
@jeffreyalberson974211 ай бұрын
@sailorama there is a few different places to land a dink here. You just needed a little local knowledge. Marathon is one of the only good anchorages left in Florida, due to new anchoring restrictions. This is the main reason why we are heading south. It's sad to see that a few boaters here with derelict boats are now putting that at risk here also.good luck on the journey, and maybe we'll see you out there.

Great adventure. Sailing is becoming less enjoyable as the number of boats as exceed the available space.
@sailorama11 ай бұрын
We could see that a lot of boats that were anchored in Boot Key were wrecks that had to be abandoned by hopeless owners or hoarded there in the nicely protected harbor. It's difficult to maintain, sail and to not clog up a harbor with your boat. I think otherwise, there would be lots of room for everyone.

Countries like Mexico push you to get all that documentation if extra fees are required. 💰💰💰😁They aren't concerned that your next destination doesn't require it. 🤣⛵🐬🐕💖

Have you tried putting a small patch\piece of fake grass on the deck to see if the dog would go there?
@sailorama11 ай бұрын
Yes, he ignored the green patch completely - his preference is location more than material.

You guys just think we know what a “ZARPE” or “Zarpae” is???
@sailorama11 ай бұрын
A zarpe is something you encounter when sailing in Mexico/Latin America - a document that some authorities give you when clearing out of port.
