I found this movie at random around the time of its release and was surprised at how well it achieves all of its aims across multiple genres - it's genuinely very funny, poignant, meaningful, and sustains a real sense of mystery and interest the whole time. I was thoroughly impressed by it but did think no-one was ever going to see it because of how weird the premise was, and how many people were going to miss out.

@noise33122 жыл бұрын
I don’t think it’s about god, actually. Here’s my interpretation. The different buttons in the second room probably mean that good and bad things happening are sometimes out of your control, no matter what “button” or method you try to make things do what you want. As he floated up, he learned to stop pressing buttons as he aged and let himself be carried by life, just enjoying the world for what it is (hence showing things dying, living, good and bad things happening) and when finally you make it to the third room, you realize that life is over and you’ve learned to be happy. There’s no other buttons to press, and your only choice is to press the last one and see where it takes you (a metaphor for the afterlife) The meanings of the first room buttons is learning about the good and bad things that happen, understanding them, and instead of giving up finding creative solutions to your problems. He had fun, cried, got angry, was confused, experienced pain. All emotions that a human feels when going through life. Finally, his last problem was overcome, only to realize that it didn’t make him happier, only caused more discomfort. He learns that his race to the door didn’t lead to anything, and finds another door to enter and understands he made a big deal over the door when the answer was clear. This could all mean a lot. The final problem was being a kid. You’re done being bossed around, and you make it through the hoops to become an adult, but when you get there you realize that it’s harder than before. You had open space and breathing room, but you got to adulthood and learned it’s cramped and uncomfortable, and you didn’t appreciate the freedom before. You find another door, and that leads to your understanding that adult life isn’t any better or worse, but another series of problems to solve and enjoyments to be had. You still have freedom, but that freedom looks daunting and confusing. The movie is basically about the stages of life and how you comprehend it. I worded that kind of weirdly but I think I did fine.

Fun fact: the main character is played by Hitoshi Matsumoto, one half of the legendary Japanese comedy duo Downtown (along with Masatoshi Hamada), as well as the Screaming Guy from the eponymous meme. You may know them from those old Silent Library sketches but those are just the tip of the iceberg. If you're a fan of absurd and irreverent humor, definitely check them out. @Rinchen.3 жыл бұрын
@@awagabyow8171 I think the message here is the main character starts out like a baby figuring out what each the buttons do and tries to run away from the situation not knowing about anything and too scared to know why and what. Just like this we are the same way, when we are going through life, WE figure out and find OUR OWN buttons which lead to good and bad things happening but in turn we learn from those buttons. Once we reach adulthood, we have somewhat figured out life and what all the buttons do as such depicted in the film. So this is just saying how he grows up maybe like a baby god?; learning how to manipulate time and space around him while each button effecting life on Earth, baby god in turn turns into a adult god as he is led to the adult baby angels and then has finally reached God level once he decides to scale up the wall. This representing how we have figured out our own routine in life. Well that’s the message I got lol.

This is based on a very true story about a Japanese man Tomoaki Hamatsu better known as Nasubi(also known as Eggplant man) stuck in a gameshow for YEARS, from 1998 to 2002. Entirely naked and on camera for 24hrs a day he had to solve extremely tricky puzzles to receive "rewards". Those would range from somewhat useful like can of food he had nothing to open it with or a bag of rice he had nothing to cook it in, to a bicycle or a camping tent, mostly completely useless things that drove him to near insanity. Upon the ending of his initial contract with the production, he was moved to South Korea via plane, where he was lied to and his ordeal continued, due to how popular and profitable the show turned out to be. People have made multiple attempts to try and pinpoint his location to rescue him, but production was always one step ahead and kept basically kidnapping and moving him to new set, until he finally broke free. Truly sad, cruel and heartbreaking story.

That trick only works when you are alone in a room. Also, since you were banned from those public areas, I take it you are already in the adult phase? There's no free stuff for adults. Every time you press your button, something happens in the world, but you'll likely never know what that is.

I have got to watch this, I’d never even heard of it! It’s so rare that I come across a film that feels new and inventive. I hope that actor got a ton of praise in Japan for carrying a whole film like that.

Ok.. but.. that was actually really good in a messed up way.. I don't think I would have liked the actual movie as much as I enjoyed the recap you did. But that ending really was profound

@spectate00742 жыл бұрын
@@zew1414 Man went through all phases of life, discovering that his simple actions can effect lives all around the world, after which he further grew as a person gaining both wisdom and understanding. At the end he ascended above humanity and becomes a representation of Jesus only to have 1 last button with the phase "future" reached. The movie ends there because the future is unknown to us. A lot of these bizarre asian films and tv shows actually have a lot of hidden philosophy, and as such their meanings and effects are all debatable

The actor and creator of this film is Matsumoto Hitoshi. He is one of the Japanese guys known for their "batsu games", where he and his companions get punished as soon as they laugh at anything. He is well know for his show "Gaki no tsukai". If you search this on youtube, you'll find many funny videos.
