Your kids always seem so genuinely grateful. I feel like gratitude isn't instilled in our children enough these days. Good job.
@wishusknight30093 жыл бұрын
Gratitude isn't really something that can be "instilled" in kids. It is a trait they will naturally develop based on how they are treated by their parents and the example they are shown. It is something that has to start with the parents and their interactions with the kids. Positive feedback wherever possible, especially in the small things. And not to sweat the small stuff when negative reinforcement is used as a last resort. For example not constantly harping on a kid for doing things that kids do... Granted in these videos we only really see what they choose to show. But its impossible to get kids to act like this for the sake of a blog. At least in such a natural and consistent way. I think this shows something they are doing quite right. And its a philosophy i hold, where children are not trained, but rather they are raised and guided. Children are not pets or possessions, they are their own entity and have the same autonomy as anyone else.

Being from New Zealand and seeing the joy on your kids faces doing the treasure hunt, the sand dunes, having mates around for your birthday etc reminded me of my own childhood growing up there. You really captured the spirit and essence of what NZ life is all about, fun and experiences. A great vid. Thank you.

And the fact that they ARE parents. Too many of our generation (including other sailing channels) are selfish and self-centered and one day will disappear from this Earth with nothing left behind of the vast genetic and cultural heritage that they inherited and let die.

Seth, My first thought was how wonderful a storyteller you have become. Then I was in a sailing race! Then we had Elizabeth as a wonderful narrator and then more travels and fun and birthdays and driving in New Zealand and great covid management and then it occurred to me. you are really professional film makers. Now it all makes sense. Thanks for taking us along.

All my life I thought I don't want to miss anything that I'll be sorry for when it is beyond my age limit. It wasn't until I watched your channel (as well as other around the world boaters) that I realized I failed miserably. On the bright side, thanks to you I can experience what could have been and it makes my personal shortcomings more tolerable. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Just love your channel, just an open and honest enjoyment of life, and your boys are such fun. The YT channels I first found seem to rely on a lot of T&A for subscribers, but your look at what your normal family life is like as cruisers has been refreshing. Seeing you all rolling with the punches when issues arise actually means a lot to anyone who has ever thought about the possibility of doing anything like this, just to know that it isn’t all fun and games, but that doesn’t mean that one can’t just adjust like any land-bound family, too. Thanks, well-done and edited very well, and I really enjoy when one of the boys provides the voice-over from their perspective!
@gordonb55713 жыл бұрын
A brilliant episode. Amazing editing, I like the way your commentary is as if you said it back then - must be difficult. Apprentice commentator is coming along nicely. It seemed the kiwi kids were as interested in your boys as they were in them. Did they make many friends? Sorry hear Queen has gone home, please ask Eivind to keep posting the rest of their trip. Their journey to NZ must have been as interesting as your's. I used to teach driving, Elizabeth - in the Aus outback. Move your seat so you can push the brake pedal fully, then adjust your seat back so your arms aren't quite at full stretch, just bent a bit. If you can adjust the steering wheel, do so to achieve both. Then place your hands on the wheel at 9:15 (or, in sailor's terms E-W). That sets you up comfortably and in the best posn to avoid an accident. What you shouldn't change is that smile.

17:20 It's impossible to drive well if you need to extend your arms so far that the elbows are locked and pivot your shoulders forwards. Get her seat where it belongs. It's funny how Cape Reinga is always claimed to be the northern most point of new Zealand when North cape, just 20 km away is further north by about 3 km. There's just no road that leads there...
