So I'm pushing the envelop to hard on the new Harley Davidson Pan America Special, wrong tyres, muddy track, this is a demo bike and I feel really bad as I'm stuck on a really boggy track ! Colin from Geelong Harley is not going to be happy !

That heavy breathing, that slightly panicked look, the looking at the bike from all angles and wondering how your going to get out of this. It makes me feel good to know I'm not alone. I remember taking my KLR for my first ride off road and got it stuck in the mud. For some reason I keep coming back :) Tires would help a lot but a big bike is always going to be anxiety inducing on a trail like that.

The one thing I have always hated dealing with on a Dirt bike on muddy clay trails is deep ruts left by 4 wheelers.. Here in Michigan USA in the Allegan County Forrest riding at 2:00 AM on Snowmobiles.. 3 miles from the nearest road, me and my Buddy saw two Drunks stuck in a Jeep.. The Trail signs said no 4 wheelers allowed.. We just went around the struck Jeep throught he Woods and gave them a friendly Wave.. They had a long ways to walk.. I don't recall them having a winch as bein the the Woods they could have wichened themselves out no Problem .. My Yamaha 4 stoke snowmobile is so heavy .. I carry a boat winch on it with nylon rope.. I also carry a shovel and a limb saw..

Just one reason to buy a BMW GS, when they tip over the engine cylinders with the crash bars stop the bike going over so far you can't pick it up and you have a lower center of gravity that also helps significantly. IME Harley Davidsons have a lot of weight high up with that V twin engine.

It really is simple...BMW fan boys hate that Harley made a good ADV bike, it hurts their soul lol, poor things. So they bring up things like center of gravity. Good one. If you can't pick up a bike, any bike, then don't ride that bike, its that easy. That V Twin engine rips. This guy in the video had the wrong tires, can't ride off road at all, and does these fail vids for views. A short fella, in the middle of nowhere alone on an ADV bike with the wrong tires = "TrApPed iN AuStRaLiA"

@@NonAbidingDude I wouldn't know if BMW fanboys hate anything about Harley as I'm not one, but ultimately no matter what you say you cannot change the laws of physics or the vibration of a prehistoric angle layout for a V twin, at least do 90 degrees like a Ducati for some sort of primary balance.

My hat's off to you for even attempting this. I've got a 1993 Honda Transalp which I can't pick up alone. It's got a really high centre of gravity I think. Also, no side panniers. I'll only take it off-road if my wife goes with me. I was riding in the Gobi desert of Mongolia and dropped it a few times in deep sand. We had to unload our luggage just to get it up. Then strap on the soft luggage again. Fall and repeat. So, for solo trail riding, I'm considering either a Yamaha WR250R (street legal) or a KTM 500EXC (not street legal but allowed in Mongolia). These bikes are closer to 100kg than my Transalp's 200kg. I shouldn't have any difficulty picking that up on my own.

Great job mate. Bloody tough terain for your first time on it. Probably not a great decision concidering weight tyres and bike but you persevered. 👍
