This made me think of the first time my older brothers took me to a hobby store, I think it was in the early 80s and I remember the huge isle of pewter minis, and the glass cases displaying misc. painted minis and painted plastic model cars and trains and planes. It was such a fun store to go to, it was HUUGE and had so many things you could do as far as a hobby. That place died when internet buying came to be :( But I can still remember that feeling of so many possibilities of doing something fun, thank you for helping remember that moment :D

I based a mimic that I had over the past couple weeks. Tried to make a wood dock out of balsa wood, kind of like how your pirate ship base was done. Really had a good time working on it! Also, personally not a huge fan of the new army besides the catapult. That is dope.

For that rpg bit Jon went on about, know that they played with minis back in the day. Remember, they created D&D using wargaming as a base, they already had the minis. My dad and uncle played when the oroginal rules were released in 74, and they went out and bought minis because they heard that was required. Theater of the mind is a style of play, and it also existed back then, but neither is the "purer" form.

At least in the US, Games Workshop kinda 'stealth' advertises by having exclusive product at Barnes and Noble. By and large though I think that, while they are huge by gaming standards, I suspect they don't think they can really break out too much farther into the general consumer population.

"Mall Ninja" comes from the antics of the ridiculous Gecko45, a user on the Glock forums, who somehow gained the impression that he was some sort of Special Forces soldier who kept people safe from increasingly ridiculous threats at suburban shopping centres. They buy all manner of silly weapons and attachments which don't really work or aren't even real, cover themselves in "tacticool" crap, and are basically the source of the meme "Don't worry ma'am, I'm from the Internet". They keep up this crap in gun stores, oblivious to the fact that they are clearly surrounded by people who have experience with various weapons when they themselves don't, where they are referred to as "gun store commandoes". They may then become "Range Ninjas" if someone erroneously lets them actually buy a gun and go out on to a range to play with it. Typified by being as fat as I am, but claiming to be Special Forces or Special Air Service soldiers; knowing someone who is; or claiming to have friends who are law enforcement officers which means they know everything. Frequently shows up to a range spraying from a cheap rifle buried in twice its mass in tactical accessories meant for airsoft guns, as fast as they can pull the trigger, at an indoor range with a limit of one shot per second, and has replica knives all over them for "self-defence" but has never trained to fight at all. For further reading: lonelymachines.org/mall-ninjas/ On the bright side, it would make an hilarious mini...
