Wow. Good idea with that marten box wire cage. 1/4 inch wire screen would keep the mice out better though. I have been using mainly cardboard the last few years. Cheap and light and I generally set a different spot each season. I have wooden boxes in spots I use every year though and just leave them out all year. I might copy that design for those spots.

also...out of curiosity....burn the outside of a couple Marten boxes with a propane torch....char them well, wire brush, then see how well they last, and produce........ compared to un-treated boxes. When preserving wood, carbon is our friend, and the ultimate sent killer....Food for thought..(sometimes provides food). (Sometimes).

Hey Norm, another great video from you. Just wondering what you are going to put on the bottom of the runners to help with the gliding over snow and ice. You may have said what you where going to do but I may have missed it. Looking forward to you getting the canvas tent ready to put up for this coming season. Not sure if I am stealing your future plans for the sled but I think you should paint on the side of the sled "True North Living". I think if you do that, make it multi colored that helps it stand out. Maybe even paint it with florescent paint so that you can see it in the dark. Take care and have a great summer. Tom

Sleigh looks good Norm, how long or how many season's does a sleigh typically last you before you have to build a new one? Thought you were going to make a two sleigh one that pivots length ways in the middle, did you ever make that?
@truenorthlivingmanitoba5 жыл бұрын
DEER RECOVERY TRACKING DOG talk about that on the next video bud. Thanks
@drtdbbt25885 жыл бұрын
@@truenorthlivingmanitoba Okay, had watched some video where a guy had gotten or had given to him a trapping sleigh(probably or close to the same size as the one you just built) that was plastic molded. I own/owed ice fishing sleds that are plastic molded and they'd outlast anything I could make or buy out of wood of the same similarity type sled. Had a Otter Sled(the brand name) and now have a Jet Sled I got last season after selling my Otter Sled combination portable ice fishing shack. The flip over attachment on my Otter Sled, the canvas type material was getting old and torn so I just sold both the Otter Sled and shack attachment together. Otherwise the Otter Sled itself was pretty much indestructible and even use to have a hitch on it for towing that was made that was indestructible even from encountering season's of heavy repeated use (nuts and bolt's might of needed to be replaced every so often, but that's it). Most manufacture's of the plastic molded sleds also sell silicone rudder's you can attach when the skids/runner's on the bottom get worn or don't seem to slide through the snow as good. There's also companies that make and sell silicone attachment kit's and price wise are probably cheaper to buy versus buying the kits from a plastic sled manufacture or retailer. As far as customizing the inner sled, I did on my Otter Sled and made compartments for storage plus still had room for two five gallon pails to sit on while ice fishing. Just a thought Norm for your next or future trapping sleigh if you want something that will last the rest of your trapping days. Oh, and the trapping sleigh I had seen the guy had on the video also had or came with a raised(guessing 4"-6" full size cover/lid that latched down for keeping the elements out. It wasn't just a canvas cover with elastic strapping on the skirt. Wish I knew who made them, but don't recall in the video if the manufacture's name was given. Lol, you probably already know all about plastic trapping sled's or even have had one or two!!!!

My snowmobile tends to burn the belt. Do you have any trouble with yours pulling this? Loaded with gear, or animals, a sled that size would be pretty heavy. I live in steep mountain country, maybe that's the difference? That's big enough you could sleep in it if you broke down in an emergency.
@truenorthlivingmanitoba5 жыл бұрын
Muskrat Outdoors I would never build a sleigh that I can’t throw around or get out easy. It’s no heavier then a yellow boggan if I put a lid on it. I’m on flat land so no problems for me here. If I was in country like you I would build one like my other one with a short box on it. I never burn belts. Cheers MO
