Thanks man! I wish I coulda got permission on the next property, it would changed the whole dynamic of the video being in prime location, but obviously we all find ourselves in this circumstance at one point or another. I know at that one dam crossover a lot of people woulda set it, there just wasn't enough water to drown there.

Great video. Is beaver meat good to eat? Also, what are the furs worth?

It is pretty good. Smoked is my favorite way to eat it because the meat has a natural hint of sweetness. Furs aren't worth much at all right now, but the castor glands have been at a premium.

+Jett Bumgarner, make sure your playing the wind to your advantage. Set your castor mounds so that the smell blows towards the water.

set your footholds exactly as I showed. set shallow, with just enough water to cover. Offset your trap about 4 inches from the center of your approach point. you'll be successful.

Barbara Wray, I eat the meat, I sell the fur and the glands. Every now and then I'll keep the fur for my own use....

So what do you do after you skin it in the field? You gut it and quarter it? How long do you have to get it on ice before the meat goes bad? I am more interested in the meat than anything else. I have never beaver trapped, but around some of my favorite catfishing holes there is more beaver sign than you can shake a stick at. I'm am thinking I could load my freezer in a weekend if I really wanted to. Somewhere I heard the meat might carry some dangerous virus or something, you know anything about that? I wouldn't quarter it in the field. Take it home. The backstraps are big. I think most people butterfly them and fry them. The front legs can go in a stew. If you have a grinder beaver will make very good burger. That's how I do them. Be sure to grind the heart too. Also, my buddy Tim swears the liver is awesome, but I can't see any liver as awesome... :)

Ever try hand held clippers, the kind most use for trimming small limbs off trees and bushes? I use them when I butcher my rabbits. Sooo much easier than breaking the legs off. Also, what do you do with the meat from your catches?

Brooksie Reinhard, when I'm in the shop I use those too. When I'm walking a mile in I don't wanna carry any more than I have to. As far as the meat, I like to make jerky out of it, then I use a lot for predator bait too.
