Mr. Florin Thank you so very much for these informative videos. I learned to trap beaver n otter from you. Thank you so much. I have such a good time outdoors and really have an unlimited supply because nobody...NOBODY here traps beaver around me. It's really opened some doors for me to meet landowners and spend quality time with my kids when they want to join me...Thank you sir

When I was a kid (90s and early 2000s for reference) I used to go trapping with my grandfather. This video brought back a lot of great memories and I was surprised at just how close your method was to his.

A Duke 1.5 isn't too small for beaver if you know how to use them. I've caught and held securely, large beaver, adult otter and big tom bobcats in Duke #1.5 coil spring traps. The only thing in my area that I wouldn't use a #1.5 on is coyote. The trap is big enough for a good catch just not strong enough to consistently hold them.

@FlorinTrapping What do you think about Duke #5's? or better to stick to Sleepy creek 4.5 's? How many inches back from the castor mound should the foot traps be? looks to me about 12" on the left and 8"-10" on the right. is that right?

the guy i trap on his land has high end bird dogs go down the strips of grass while guys hunt his land and he doesnt want the dogs caught so i worked around that and have caught some good sized beavers in smaller traps i have used #11 double longs and caught beavers so dont let people say it cant be done you just have to be more on target and go for front foot catches

i wouldnt say a duke 1.5 is to small as i have caught 40# beavers in them without much problem i also run a swivel midway down my chain and one at the end besides the one on the trap and you have to set the trap closer to the bank like you would for muskrats but in just a hair deeper water then rats i will say run the drowner tight and id go with an 1/8 in drowner for beaver. it will take some practice but it can be done i had to learn to do it as one land owner wants smaller traps used

Sometimes those little buggers are hard to shoot. It's easier to put a few traps over night and if you do it right the probability of getting a kill goes up.
