Simply put - a fantastic (short) day’s riding - mostly gravel, but every sealed road was superb - some of Victoria’s best!
Traralgon is so well placed - a small city which is surrounded by great country roads, just minutes away. The route we took;
𝗧𝘆𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗥𝗱 - great surface with stacks of sweepers. Excellent.
𝗪𝗮𝗹𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗮 𝗥𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗪𝗮𝗹𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗮 - very good surface, twisties only. Fantastic.
𝗧𝗵𝗼𝗺𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝘆-𝗧𝗵𝗼𝗺𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗗𝗮𝗺 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗥𝗱 - great surface, plenty of sweepers followed by twisties. Very good.
𝗪𝗮𝗹𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗮 𝗥𝗱 (𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗯𝘂𝗿𝘁𝗼𝗻-𝗪𝗼𝗼𝗱𝘀 𝗣𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗥𝗱) - very dusty with always changing surface. Sometimes wide, sometimes narrow, sometimes twisty, sometimes straight but undulating. Good ride.
𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗯𝘂𝗿𝘁𝗼𝗻-𝗪𝗼𝗼𝗱𝘀 𝗣𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗥𝗱 - mostly good surface but always changing. Mostly wide but sometimes narrow when winding around the mountain. Good ride.
𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘆𝘀𝘃𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲-𝗪𝗼𝗼𝗱𝘀 𝗣𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗥𝗱 - great surface, all sorts of twisties, sweepers and great surroundings. Excellent ride.
𝗟𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗥𝗱 - out-and-back, excellent twisty ride to the resort - good surface.

The Walhalla to Thompson dam section is a great ride on an Adventure bike. The road is fine if a little narrow. Enjoyed your trip. 👍

I really enjoyed the video, not overly busy , but the hotel at Marysville is a real gem.

Rode that dirt section 2 up on my 1290 SAR about 12 mnths ago. Info is accurate, in addition some particularly steep decents from that direction. The risk is low if you take it easy on the bends and avoid the steep sides. We passed several 4x4 coming the opposite direction, had to move off to the side a bit for a safe pass, we stopped and let them pass. Scenery is magnificent. Its a slow trip but definitely worth it. Stop overnight at Woods Point and head to Jamieson the next day, a great couple of days.

Thanks, great info. Lots of good riding in all these areas - we've done to Woods Point --> Jamieson --> Licola, etc, loved those rides. So many options.

Ive done that road in the opposite direction, from Thomson Dam down to Walhalla about 6 months ago. I thought it was a great ride and not particularly narrow or dangerous. Swamp Wallaby @ 10:56😉

Thanks for the advise. I think that direction is the 'wall' side as apposed to the cliff side? Do you think that makes a difference?

No I don't think it particularly matters. You need to ride like there is an oncoming lunatic in a Mack truck around every blind corner, regardless of which direction you're going.

Walhalla road up to the dam is not too narrow or difficult. Nothing like the road to mckillops bridge or similar.

That's interesting. We thought McKillops Road isn't too bad, neither is Snowy River Road, but we've always done those roads on the mountain side. Walhalla Rd would have been on the cliff side, so you don't have many options if some comes the other way a bit wide. 👍

Damn, now I have to try and see if I can incorporate this into our return trip from Tassie 🤔. Great effort as always. Cheers.

Coopers Creek is where I put a hole in the sump of my Focus XR5, too busy looking at the old Pub and Hotel rather than watching out for the giant potholes on that road 😬. The track out to Thompson Dam from behind Walhalla is an excellent scenic route, but I somehow deleted all my footage from that road and wasn't able to recover it. I plan to do it again, but not before I've added a puncture repair kit and a portable pump to my kit, as the rocks on that road look to be a bit rougher than I'd like for my skinny road tyres

Thanks, we'll have to look into that route, though there'sso many choices in the area towards Licola, etc

I went up to Lake Mountain on New Years Eve and it was closed too. It seems to be very quiet up there in Green season with a few mountain bikers and that's about it.

Yes, we've never seen much happening there, though it was a bit better when the café was open.

I have done that road from Walhalla many times, there are a few narrow sections, but nothing too serious. I would agree that "enthusiastic drivers" can be an issue. But, if you ride carefully, it's a good ride. Having said that, I have nearly been run off the road a few times in that area. Everything from forestry vehicles, 4WDs and even motorcycles. It happens everywhere there are narrow gravel roads. I just make sure I ride accordingly, especially on the blind corners.
