Hello and Welcome to episode 110 of Trash to Track
In this episode we take a look at an O gauge Lima 4f loco. I have never looked at the Lima O gauge range before, so this was a refreshing change from the usual OO gauge repairs.
Thanks for looking.

Lima used the same G-type motor for anything: locomotives, station bells, opening bridges etc. I think they never made a turntable though.

I think someone has rewheeled that when doing the other detailing. I am sure it had plastic tender wheels and solid drivers.

Super video again. Would this loco be easy to update the motor given it’s the standard 00 loco motor and add more pick ups, perhaps to the tender?

Fantastic. I used to have 3 of these. Built a e2 body for one chassis and made a Thomas, the next was a simple re paint into James with further mods to be done but never got around to it and the 3 rd was either going to be kept as it was or rebuilt to resemble Edward. But a so called friend of mine stole them and another £1000 worth of 0 gauge and sold it all while I was in hospital for a month. Wish I could afford to buy 4 of these but eBay prices just ridiculous. Oh well

Makes you realise just how big 7mm to the foot is! Surprised as you are to find that Lima used the same pancake motor as in their OO models - be interesting to see what its haulage capability is. Your usual thorough approach, Dan! Nice one. This is the first time I’ve ever been first in the comments on any of the numerous channels I subscribe to on YT! Best wishes as ever to a working bobby from a retired S&T man!

I have a number of Lima's O scale freight cars (they escaped to the wrong side of the pond :D ) and I find them to be extremely free-rolling and lightweight. Perhaps this was in consideration of the OO sized motor they placed in their 'O' locomotives, so I wouldn't expect them to be robust pullers. I also have one of the Class 33 diesels he mentions an interest in at the end of the video (around 16:55). Being that I'm in 3-rail 'O' (it's a US thing), I acquired pickup rollers and a command-control board for a planned conversion to 3-rail AC operation. It won't be used to haul typical 3R-O rolling stock though, instead I have a selection of Lima's Mark 1 coaches for it, which are just as free-rolling as the tender in this video.

Have seen Dapol O gauge locos using the hook and chain coupler system so may be an O gauge thing?

Not just an O Gauge thing. I use three/screw/etc in OO Gauge. There are few extra bits you have to use (Sprung Buffers etc) my coupling/un-coupling or shunters rod is actually an O Gauge tool but I find it works perfectly in OO. So yes I'm a coupling snob! I have admitted it. Fantastic video, loads of detailing kit for the Lima Class 33 in O Gauge too, I just don't have the space unfortunately!

Given Lima (and Rivarossi for that matter) used oddball hook couplers (they look like oversized 'N' scale couplers) on their O scale stock, I imagine conversion to hook+chain couplings was necessary to make them compatible with whatever other rolling stock the previous owner may have had.
