This looks fabulous but I think the timber you used for the feet should've been the same width as the leg. Plus the blocks you used to cover the heart should maybe have the edges rounded off to match the curvy look of thr rest of the base. Just a couple of minor details but that base was a great find and what you did with it was totally awesome.

I like that you were inspired on how you would create your own version... when you find a table base to work on these ideas will come together for you!

I'm with you, Deb. I love Cory's creativity and her 'no fear' style of attacking a project. I think that the heart cutout would have distracted less than the plywood squares do on the finished product and I think that the risers on the legs draw your eyes to the legs due to the difference of size between the risers and the original legs. The end result is that this island is going to be quite useful to Cory and it's in her kitchen. So, if Cory likes it......that's all that really matters. Each of us has our unique set of likes and dislikes. I can't wait to watch Cory restore another old and abused piece of furniture. Thanks for the video and kudos to you for your kind and generous heart.
@conniesandros94872 жыл бұрын
I thought the same, the extensions to the legs looked too small and the heart covers should have a little more finish. I have loved everything else you’ve done, but this one looks great, but could have been better

Love your finished kitchen island -- you are so clever and talented with how you remake and renew stuff. I just spent the weekend spraying that Rustoleum stone texture (in a differnt color) on my damaged coffee table top and haven't sealed it yet. I was really happy to see this video posted because I wanted to see what you used as a sealer. I was even happier when I saw you using polycrylic which is what I planned to use. Always nice to have a more experienced DIYer confirm a product, especially when I already have it on hand and don't have to go out and spend money.

Very handy and functional piece. Well done Cory. 👏🏻 Another way to go would have been to turn the base upside down and use that length of wood with the heart, as a place to hang items. Then again, with small kids and dogs around, that prob wouldn’t be very practical in your home. I’m sure every item would be playthings within a few mins. 🤣

Not sure if it’s correct but my husband says the saw issue could be the blade. You have to use the right kind for whatever cuts you are making. He says the blade is binding. Cool project!
@jackieheninger68562 жыл бұрын
Fantastic. I think the reason the saw quits is a matter of safety. I think it must be overheating nor in a bind and the safety kicks on to protect you.

The battery powered circular saw will stop with any type of resistance, I think it's some sort of safety feature. If you put a leather glove on your hand and stick your hand in front of the blade while it's running, it will stop. You literally cannot cut your hand. If you want continuous power you must use a corded saw.
@ml95082 жыл бұрын

I scrolled quite a ways down without seeing a solution to the saw battery issue, so here's my 2cents. Cutting through very thick and/or hard wood does put stress on the motor, so try cutting in several shallower passes. It takes off the pressure and you shouldn't have so much trouble. Doing it in one pass will also snap a circuit breaker on electric saws.
@DesertDIY2 жыл бұрын
That is possible, but once I switched batteries it had no issues on the same cuts. I guess I just need to see if they will exchange my battery for a new one

Sand blasters in general must have very dry air as in to get them to work optimally you almost have to have a refrigerated air drying system. Most are expensive. And they also use a very high volume of air ( C.F.M.) can be very hard on compressors.

I like the pioneer rustic vibe to it! Did you permanently attach the marble top to the base? If so, I missed that and wondered how you would do it.
@DesertDIY2 жыл бұрын
Hi Terri! Since this is SO heavy, it doesn't need to be permanently attached. Also for moving purposes it would need to be able to be removed to put into a vehicle etc. All antiques with marble tops do it this way as well. They are just resting on top of the piece using their weight to keep them in place. I can push this all around and the stone won't move.
@LaLadybug20112 жыл бұрын
You can add strips of wood to the underside of the stone so that it is"held" in place by the frame underneath the stone. It's just an extra step of safety. We just used glue to add the wood to the bottom of the stone.
@terrizimmerman52972 жыл бұрын

You could have put the wood on one side and took a pencil and outlined the heart, made the cut and put the heart wood piece inside and filled the rest. Also, if you have a Menards near by, they have free wood blocks the size of feet and many other sizes that are in a bin by the cut yourself station for FREE!
