Thanks, I brought one of these back from late Granmas house and it has been acting slow and sluggish. Now I have more confidence to give it a cleaning and lube. thanks

One note on lubrication of these fans, it’s typically best to use a good lightweight oil like zoom spout, which is formulated for HVAC application motors and sewing machines. It’s a nice thin non-detergent oil. And it works great in these motors.

That is good information, thanks for sharing

Those are great fans. I’ve had a few over the years, including one that I bought brand new in 1985, which I had until 2018 when that house burned the ground due to a wildfire. But would’ve kept working if the house wouldn’t burned.

Good save from the trash! Will serve you well in the coming summer. Can't beat the look of the older fans

My grandfather has that same fan. They don’t make them like they used to. Nice video!

Had a fan exactly like that but it has gone. Our cat used to shut if off and turn it on when he wanted to. Thanks for fixing the fan. Great video.

I have that same fan. I lubed it twice already. I had it running 24 hours a day in the summer.

I wouldn't use grease in the bushings, they are designed to hold oil in a wick and use the oil as needed. The oscillator is fine to use grease but not the bushings. These Galaxy/Lasko fans were really good and can run a while, I have a 16 inch and a few 12 inch models that run pretty much all the time and rarely need anything but a cleaning. The 16 Inch one was oiled in June 2013 and hasn't been oiled until last week, it was running fine but I figured I should oil it since it's been a while and ran a lot since then.

I have 2 of these fans in the same color as this one. They look like new but oscillation is very noisy.

Those things were built to last. Keep them clean and oiled, they will still outlast anything modern.

Doesn’t surprise me. I try to always pick these older fans up. Just for parts they are worth it alone if they don’t work at all

Nice fan, I've got a blue one just like it. I'd be careful using white lithium grease on the rubber part of the fan bushings. I've heard it's harmful to the rubber...

so the oscillating knob does pull off, some on youtube just force it through the hole, im guess the pushing through is the best way to avoid damaging the knob, or do you suggest pulling easier ? Thanks

Honestly it’s 50-50 either way sometimes they seize on there and you don’t really have a choice

@@hanksgarage_ can you think what type of grease would work best for the nylon gears that come in a squeeze tube or the like? dont have a grease gun anymore, thanks
