Instantly bought an Atlas Factory second! I didn't have a disc golf bag, and have wanted one for awhile but didn't want to spend the $ and didn't really "need" one. The combination of that bag would have been trash anyways, supporting TrashPanda Discs, and keeping something out of the landfill was too good to be true!

The top of the Oddgrip G1 is the slickest plastic I’ve ever felt a disc be made from. It has the exact look, feel, and texture of the lid of a Sterilite plastic container. The black plastic has amazing grip, but it felt super awkward for me to hold because my thumb was constantly slipping around.

I own several G1R1's that I 3D printed with the original designers permission, and they gave me the model. I really like it in a lower weight, but at higher weight's it becomes way WAY too overstable. I've been meaning to print one in the low to mid 150g range but haven't gotten around to it. I've mainly printed them in polymaker TPU95.
@andrewweatherby67772 жыл бұрын
Trash panda is so awesome that I'm ALMOST willing to forget that you said "comfortability" in this video!
@MaxLBogue2 жыл бұрын
Really interesting concept for the G1. I'll be intrigued to see how they modify the flight plate to maintain handfeel while introducing alternate flights. They'll need to change the upper rim, at least in the wing section, because it appears the main reason the G1 is so overstable is that board-flat flightplate and the high parting line.
@shanebentley56302 жыл бұрын
Glad to get more info on the oddgrip! For the G1R1, if this concept could allow something like a speed 11 disc with a grip of a speed 7, i would be wildly happy. I have been on the Loft train since Hydrogen, but I was very skeptical with the Bohrium,; i've been so happy with it, and many others were pleasantly surprised when throwing it too. for wide rims i have to use a very unconventional grip that the roll-over on the inside doesn't negatively impact, i would be so excited to see more discs with similar designs.
@snikwahjets2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I've been thinking of designing and making a 12speed disc with a 7-8 speed grip. But I couldn't tell if it would be pdga approved. I guess it would be😁

I like how the 2nd disk gave you 3 arm speed variations of flight I wish all the companies would come up with that
@Arrica1012 жыл бұрын
But how do you determine your arm speed then. It would just be something else you don't actually need
@CroppedCross32 жыл бұрын
agreed. if you throw a destroyer at an arm speed of "1" as a beginner it's going to look much different than a pro throwing it at an arm speed of "3". Technically it is helpful info, but in the real world it's completely useless. As with every other manufacturer, you're better off just throwing the disc and seeing what it does for you.
@toth.422 жыл бұрын
Innova has kind of thought of this, all their flight paths (graphics on each disc on their site) shows an "experienced" and a "beginner" path, where the beginner is most often shorter and beefier, which is about universally true.

my understanding of Sector's disc is that if you like a wide rim, there's an area (section - sector) for that specific grip....if you like a narrow rim, there's an area for that specific grip. One disc, two types of rim for grips.

So for the over-mold technology. The over-mold being on the very outside does increase its moment of inertia (it wanting to keep spinning basically) more than it being on the bottom and closer to the center. But it may not affect it as much in this specific case because there is more over-mold adding more weight which also adds to an increased moment on inertia. So if it was the same amount of over-mold on both discs, theoretically, the mvp style would be more effective.

Thanks for the explanation Brian!

Great video! I’m definitely interested in an Atlas Factory Second, but I have a question. Is there any way to guarantee a V2 model as opposed to a V1? I only ask because I never leave the house (or show up to the course) without my 32oz hydroflask and it seems like the V1 may not be able to hold that. I’ve been wanting a new bag but haven’t been able to convince myself to pull the trigger yet, but for this price point and the fact that I’d be keeping something out of a landfill, it’d be a no-brainer as long as it can fit my trusty hydro.

Give MVP's Patent a cursory read for more information on what the "gyro" tech really is. It is a common misconception that the overmold is "rubber." It is, in fact, just another plastic of the same or similar type with a higher density, or a lower/equal density along with a heavy filler. Patent # is 9731216 B2 tl;dr MVP's patent centers around the overmold being a different density (usually higher density) than the core of the disc, resulting in a higher rotational moment of inertia compared to a traditionally manufactured single-mold disc, it has nothing to do with grip.
@Theaddekalk2 жыл бұрын
teh grip on the bottom of the disc might also make it slower in teh ground, making it for a safe disc
@kylethecreator2 жыл бұрын
The "gyro" technology may apply to the odd grip disc but it really depends on the density of the black plastic vs the white plastic. If the grippy black plastic has a higher density then it would mean this disc will have more mass on the outer rim. This would in turn act like the gyro discs. It can also be understood by understanding how a flywheel works. By having more mass father out you would have more energy/momentum in the rotational direction comparing it to the same size mold with only 1 plastic.

I would like to see someone come out with a disc that is made of recycled tires. I would imagine they would be super durable. I have a feeling they would be pretty heavy and might not pass being PDGA approved without adding bubbles to the process to make it almost like a foam rubber. There are some issues being able to do this because of the tire and type of rubber itself, but I'm confident someone could figure it out ... Jesse ;)

hey how about a disc that has 3 different wing sizes on each half (6 total) so everyone can grip the disc perfectly even if they have smaller hands? Basically from the top view the disc looks normal but from underneath it is divided into 6 segments that each pair facing each other has a different depth/length to allow different finger lengths to grip it perfectly.
@BahramKheradmand2 жыл бұрын
this could allow midranges and putters to be gripped like a driver, and vice versa. I will try to melt away a driver of mine and somehow add a piece to a midrange I have to test it out!

I’d like to see the PDGA restrict some of the innovation. If somebody can invent a disk that goes further or holds the line better I think that hurts Disc Golf. I’d like to focus more on the player’s ability than the equipment. Over molds are perfectly acceptable. They don’t seem to make enough of a difference to the game. I thought the second disc was very innovative because they’re using a different plastic for grip rather than just for weight distribution. Why didn’t somebody think of that sooner.
