The neurobiological effects of PTSD can vary based on personal touch. PTSD is caused by extreme trauma and is seen most in women. Research shows that long term experience of traumatic stress has drastic impacts on specific structures of the brain, like the prefrontal cortex. These disruptions can affect the ability to regulate emotion, learn, and form new memories. It is treatable. Daisy attended the University of San Francisco and received her degree in Psychology and minor in Neuroscience. Currently, she runs her family’s ranch and cares for her hoard of animals. She’s applying to Psychology and Behavioral Neuroscience PhD programs this fall and plans to research genetics, neural basis of emotion, and psychopathology. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

My second marriage was financially, emotionally and physically abusive. It turned me into an anxious, depressed mess. At 61 after a three year marriage to a Narcissist I never knew the damage that could be done ! I am dying inside. Problem is I am still in touch with her and all she ever wants is money from me. Plus I know I am trauma bonded to her. I hate her and love her at the same time. I know I am a man , but we are abused as well !

Daisy, I am a 44 year old man. I appreciate your intention in gearing your talk towards women, however I am a survivor of extreme mental, emotional, and physical abuse in a marriage to a woman with a personality disorder that had been misdiagnosed for her entire life. We are no longer married and I do not know if she has ever been officially diagnosed. I do however know that multiple mental health professionals agree with me and that she exhibits all 21 symptoms and I have heard her express each symptom herself but never but them together with a disorder. The medical community thinks a majority of disorders are ADD or ADHD and do not seem interested in assessing correctly or helping individuals or their families. I dated a woman a year after we separated who was just as manipulative if not more and both were the most hateful human beings I have ever met. What has become prevalent is women lying about being the abuser and pretending they are the abused and the stigma of men being the abusers has made it almost impossible for me to live a normal life. I suffer from extreme PTSD from 3-4 years of extreme abuse from the 2 together and still can not get away because their attack is relentless with the help of greedy attorneys and a very corrupt judicial system and what I believe is the absolute worst stigma is that the man is the abuser in every relationship. I am on here looking for therapy to help me cope with the triggers as they have made it almost impossible to function normally and have effected my daily life. I appreciate your information, I do find it offensive as you seem to believe only women need the assistance in getting the help needed as your entire talk that I listened to was directed only at women suffering and making sure we are conscious of what PTSD looks like so we can assist them in getting the support they need. I will admit I am making an assumption I hope I am wrong about as this is the only TED Talk or information I have heard from you and hope you realize or to bring some awareness to the fact that many women are abusing the stigma of being the victim. I am sorry you suffered any abuse at the hands of a man in any way. Please be conscious that there are many very hateful, vindictive women who have learned to take advantage of simply being a woman and crying wolf when she herself is the monster dressed in sheep's clothing.
