Why is the generator so damned flammable? Why was there no escape rope? There's plenty of room for a rope, on the generator or in a backpack.

quaztron The hydraulic oil and plastic parts inside the turbine are flammable. There is around 400 L of hydraulic oil which is not easy to put out, let alone the fire department cant reach the flames as their ladders aren't long enough.

•I would like to know exactly what burned, and how it burned, from the first minute. Burn a generator on the ground if you have to. Oil inside a metal gearbox can't burn. Did the gearbox rupture? It looks like every part of it burned, like all the panels were plastic instead of metal. It burned like a car burns. No excuse for that. Nothing should burn except the PVC wire insulation, and thst wiring should be inside steel conduit or steel cabinets. •Ladders can't reach the top, so where is the standpipe? Fire trucks carry water; they could pump it to sprinklers at the top if there was a [metal] pipe pre-installed. •Ladders don't reach, but hoses probably are long enough. If these guys had more nerve, they could have tried having the helicopter carry up a hose, and watch the fireball when water and steam splatter an oil fire. Not worth the risk - they just let it burn, corpse or no corpse. •Any more victims of this same scenarios since then?

There is a constant rate descender on these things which is a fancy term for an escape rope. Don't know why it wasn't used. These things also have brakes on them if the blades start spinning too fast during high winds and they are also engaged during maintenance. They tend to catch fire like the brakes on a car if the blades continue to spin and they fail.

I suspect they know more about it than you do. I also suspect they did all they could.
