If you have good rapport with your clients, ask them pay for your room. Many of them have blocked out a certain number of rooms for family members anyway & they get a group rate. We have had several pay for our overnight stay... some even invited us to breakfast the next day with the family.

Not only paying for travel but for other logistics like parking. We have a fee just to go in to Washington DC because parking is always a nightmare and the fees are crazy.

Always charge for travel in some way as there is a cost to you , wear and tear on your truck plus cost of fuel for starters.

Up to an hour away, no travel charge. After that, $50 for each extra half hour away it is. I don't break it out for the client. I just quote my final price including travel.

Yes, it's pretty simple. If they are 3 or 4 hours away, they have to really want me. If I find myself traveling a lot, it means I'm not charging enough and a rate increase is in order.

@@dantonliam keep in mind, that response was written 6 years ago. The point was not to make your client do math. Just quote the final price and present it. No need to explain anything.
