I'm glad to see your kids so excited about your trip to Samoa. Just a suggestion, it's way easier if you fly to Hawaii instead of LA. And it's only about 5 and a half hours fly from Hawaii to Faleolo. Plus a lot of Islanders working there that understand other island travelers. Also, you only catch 2 planes. Enjoy your visit and family time

Just a suggestion, there NZ23 from Vancouver to Auckland direct then Auckland to Samoa direct NZ990 in the morning or NZ998 in the afternoon depends on the day you choose…nice to see families travelling together enjoy the trip back home.
