Dude...awesome video! Not only good for vacationing tourists, but also potential future ex-pats like us. Good detail on bars, beach, general location of things and even important stuff for full time living there, like grocery stores and doctors offices. Plus I'm a cyclist, so the bike tour was nice and a great way to casually present the area. Thanks for not yacking too much (like many other vids) and for panning a lot so we could see everything.

@@TheKingsGuideForMen what month was this that you went? All looks good except the seaweed or algae or whatever that was.
@TheKingsGuideForMen5 жыл бұрын
@@LichaelMewis It was during the time when the kids were out of school. So, June or July. And the seaweed is no big deal. They cleaned the beach as much as possible. Unfortunately, they didn't use any backhoes or equipment, but only manual labor with shovels and wheelbarrows. And actually, I used a big pile of the seaweed to sit upon when putting my snorkeling flippers on. I also found a live Akumal camera that you may be interested in. It's at www.locogringo.com/akumal-beach-webcam/. I see right now lots of the seaweed, but it's not "high" season right now (March), so it's going to be a difficult call on the seaweed. I also like the live comments and photos from beachgoers using TripAdvisor. Hope that helps.

The King's Guide Thankyou buddy. I'm going to riviera maya in November for the 1st and looking forward to Mexico, thanks again for your great video. Are the bikes expensive to hire?
@TheKingsGuideForMen7 жыл бұрын
Hello. The bicycles are inexpensive. And well worth the cost. We didn't go anywhere other than Half Moon Bay and the main Akumal town, and those places can be easily reached with bikes. We don't rent a car. We simply hire a local cab or passenger van driver. I have a family of 5, and we'll stuff ourselves in a car if we have to. Usually a van. And it could be $10 to go down the street, or $50 to go to another town. I recommend reserving the bikes ahead of time. A service like www.i-akumal.com/ will help you with that.

The actual town of Akumal is across the 307. This video is a tour of the hotel zone which was purpose contrived for tourists. The real Akumal has tons of character as well ... roadside food stands, chickens, lavanderias that sound like cocktail bars, monkeys, yoga camping. That side is much more authentic Yucatan than the interminable development the Riviera Maya has become.
@TheKingsGuideForMen7 жыл бұрын
That's correct, Paul. It's not for the common tourist, but you'll enjoy meeting the locals and the food is really good and affordable. It's a small rectangular town, a few blocks wide and several blocks long. With about 4-6 good places to eat.

Thanks for this awesome video and I just bought your guidebook! We are going over Easter break, staying near the north end of Half Moon Bay. We were going to Playa del Carmen but cancelled after the State Department warning. I think this will suit us better anyway! Question if anyone has time: If we bike to the main Akumal Bay for a sandier softer beach, is it public access and does it have bathrooms?
@TheKingsGuideForMen6 жыл бұрын
Yes. The main public beach at Akumal Bay (just south of Half Moon Bay) is softer, sandier, beautiful beach. More people. But really nice. Shade under the palm trees. Lots of place to eat and drink with outside bars and seating. The water is blue and clear. The swimming area is designated, but we saw turtles from there without going out into the deep. And there are bathrooms, but bring pesos. They charge a little for accessing the bathrooms. Something like 10 cents per person. There are also showers. It's nice.

Hi! Thanks the great video. We are heading to Akumal next month. I have a few questions if you have time. Do you think it is worth the money to go to the Lagoon? Do you remember the price? We were there 28 years ago and it was free! I notice you were wearing fins while snorkeling in Half Moon Bay. So they are allowed ther but not in Akumal Bay? There is confusing info on line about snorkeling in Akumal Bay. Can you snorkel on your own or do you have to have a guide? Thanks, Joyce
@TheKingsGuideForMen7 жыл бұрын
We love going to the Lagoon in Akumal, Mexico. Visit facebook.com/yalku/. I don't recall the fee, but I do remember it was a bit pricey, but well worth it. We purchased the tickets ahead of time. And if you want to special spot (like your own private entrance and shelter), then you'll have to reserve that way, way ahead of time. We swam with fins in the Lagoon. No problem there. We swam in the Akumal North Half Moon Bay. No problem there. We did not swim much in the public beach Akumal Bay. We mainly focused on getting a condo on the beach at the Half Moon Bay in Akumal, which is a really nice place just north of the public, touristy Akumal Bay. Hope that's helpful. In Akumal, the best night life activity is Wednesday nights at La Buena Vida, because they have karaoke. Other than that, there's not much "night life" in Akumal, unless you're in a high-end hotel or resort with music, entertainment and dancing. For a great time at night, you'll do much better north of Akumal at Play Del Carmen, where there is a main street filled with night-time activities.

@TheKingsGuideForMen7 жыл бұрын
Hi, Denise. Guns? The only guns that I saw were held by the police. In my opinion, the tourism areas are highly protected and very safe. In Half Moon Bay (Akumal North), there is a security gate, a night guard, and a nightly patrol. In front of my condo, there's a security guard. We walked the streets in Half Moon every night (going to dinner and back). We made sure to give the guard a cold coke and snack every night. I didn't see any security issues at all. I believe the country knows how to keep the tourist money flowing by keeping the tourists happy and safe. In relation to the turtles, we're not really into disturbing them. We leave them alone. There are so many other things to do and see. I highly recommend Akumal, Mexico.
