The medical questionnaire should have to be verified and accepted or denied prior to the insurance being issued. If they take your money, they should have to cover you.

It's hard to believe one question costs a senior the price of a luxury vehicle or a house. Its like poker by Insurance. You got heart insurance but you didn't cover that old man. no coverage! When I get old, I better talk to my doctor and a lawyer first before signing the form, because right now signing an insurance form is like writing an agreement with a devil, literally.

Part of the lesson here is to not use Manulife or any insurance that is underwritten by Manulife. They should be put out of business for essentially scamming people out of the money they paid. Deciding whether or not to accept a claim after they took their money should be considered theft and they should be taken to court for denying claims. The only thing insurance companies should be able to consider is if there is genuine medical need for the services they were provided.

+Natasha Johnson It's easy and convenient for them to say "this is covered" and "that is covered" when all goes well. Yet when something real happens and big (medical or other "covered expenses") bills have racked up, the unscrupulous insurance companies would find *ANY* excuse to get out of honoring the claim and pay up as they are supposed to. It is just soooo important to find and work with truly reliable insurers. Now, I am not Canadian or live in Canada, but if I were, then I would certainly *NOT* buy any travelers insurance (or probably any kind of insurance at all) from Manulife, because it sounds like one of those unscrupulous companies who is simply out to take people's money yet refuses to pay up when it needs to.

As an American, I travel to Canada all the time. The border is only a few hours from my house. I always get travel/health insurance before going but one of the major loop holes is that you must use "In-Network" Doctors and hospitals, otherwise they don't pay. I had a friend who cracked her head open after slipping on a staircase that was covered with confetti and ribbons last New Years Eve. The staff called an ambulance and she was rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately it wasn't an "In-Network" provider so they wouldn't help here until she came up with the cash first. They wouldn't even take a credit card. We all had to scramble, running from ATM to ATM to get the cash so she could be treated.

Frankly, it is the business of insurance companies not to pay out. They accept payment betting that the insured will not need to claim. When they do claim, the insurers lawyers take to the documentation with a fine tooth comb. Bottom line: your insurance covers you in Canada and there are terrific places in Europe where medical care is affordable. Why gamble on a vacation in the US?
@bluejayjay494

Like most insurance companies, complete scam artists. They have no problem taking your money, travel or car insurance companies, but the moment you need to make a claim or need to use the insurance, they have excuses such as one used in this video that the person didn't fill out the form properly to avoid having to pay out that money that is needed to cover the bill. What travel agencies should do is ask the person if they require travel insurance, call the insurance company directly or go to a insurance company in person. This is another example of insurance companies taking advantage of the elderly, they know they are high risk travelers, probably on several types of medication for whatever condition they have.

Jamal Jenkins ...who is "they" that still didn't explain who is going to pay the $160? do you mean the couple or the show? If you're talking about the couple, well unless they have a money tree that grew actual money from it, I guess they'll say...we'll get the money from there, otherwise just like most if not all of us we will pay it off little by little, but who knows exactly how they'll pay...unless CBC agrees to compensate them for their appearance of the show and pay a portion of that due. Yea...sometimes you'll find the answer to your question @ the end of the video, just like most fine prints in a contract or an insurance application is written at the end. So you got to wait till the end :^ )

Consider these facts... Does your insurance cover the following... 1. Traveling with a laptop and/or tablet - hoping it is not for business? What's covered and what is not? Does it cover data recovery? Do you have full backups of all of your data? Will the laptop have similar or better specs? Be sure to check if items such as the processor, graphics card(s), ram, screen resolution, etc... are covered 2. Cameras... Is it a hobby camera or one that is far more advanced - possibly even used in ones professional line of work. Does the insurance cover the exact same camera line replacement? If not there might just be a grave issue with lens compatibility. Is the sensor MP count and size of the sensor covered? Every single accessory covered? Memory cards covered and full data replacement? Don't forget items such as batteries. 3. Bonus item... If the cameras are used for any type of professional work... The cost of getting those items replaced ASAP

What would happen if you have a lawyer submit these papers for the client, on behalf of the client? Would the insurance company then need to deal with the lawyer if something were to happen? Or have they found a way to avoid that from happening? Why not let the lawyer represent you and let them deal with this "null and void" nonsense, but the key is to do this BEFORE and while signing up for the insurance, not after you've filled it out. The key idea is to have full representation from beginning to end. I think it's only fair. If you're going to have papers written by lawyers and you get rejected by lawyers, it's only fair to get a lawyer on YOUR side. Just unbelievably costly.

You don’t need to buy travel insurance when you travel. My husband and I traveled to Manila this year, unfortunately he was hospitalized diagnosed with congestive heart failure and pneumonia in one of the prime state of the art hospital in BGC in Manila. BCBS advised me that the hospital could directly bill my insurance or keep all hospital receipts and make a claim when we get back in the US. I paid the hospital with my credit card upon discharge. I got a total refund of all his hospital bills after the claim was reconciled. All it take was to send them the copy of receipts and in less than 4 weeks I got the check in the mail. When planning to travel abroad check your employer if your medical insurance covers you. Luckily I work for one of the top 10 Fortune 500 that offers this perk.

Isn't the solution to all of this is not to fill out the medical part of the form? Tell them, you are not a doctor, nor a lawyer----you literally don't know your anatomy and cannot decipher these legal hidden potholes. Also, these insurance companies should not be allowed to have access to your medical records. These insurance companies should not even be allowed to ask if you even had a cough! Are you a living breathing human that wants protection while traveling? Check the answer yes and safe travels.

Insurance companies should be required by LAW to check the medical records prior to selling the insurance, they bloody well know that by not checking it they will very rarely have to pay out a dollar.

i have long held the view that the insurance industry is a branch of organized crime. free market capitalism is completely unable and massively unwilling to deal with the situation (m-o-n-e-y). which is why in my old age (71) i more and more consider myself a socialist (social democrat). government oversight and regulation is our only hope.

if your country had a real insurance protection for its citizens , you wouldnt need travel insurance. canadian health care is a joke . so much so, that canadians need to buy coverage whenever they leave their country, because other countries even 3rd world ones, have better plans than they do.

Agree Here 2000%. As a Canadian the Feds and Provincial Gov's have let us loose to these Insurer Vultures and yet claim to have a tremendous health system and even tho the last time i looked the Canada Health Insurance Act says the insurance is suppose to be WorldWide. The Least the Feds owe us is some legislation and regulations to protect and treat Us fairly and have an Ombudsman office that can make things right.

So what happens to this 80 something year old man in a retirement home being billed hundreds of thousands of dollars!? If he cant pay it do they kick him out of the home? Stop feeding him? Go after his daughter and sue his children for their money? Throw him in jail!? I'm serious, what happens when people straight up cant and won't pay the bill.. What happens to them?

6:51 You can tell they are being dishonest, look you people LIED on your questionnaire you knew you had gut bleeding and lied about it. Marketplace seems to not be fair at all, I hate insurance and all that but come on, if you are going to lie to them they should have the right not to pay out on you, you basically tried to defraud them.

@ltaylor3515

You're wrong on both accounts. Firstly, the United States has a third tier healthcare system, wherein majority of it's citizens are either uninsured or have inadequate insurance to cover their needs, so when an uninsured person needs urgent care, the state ends up paying for part of what would normally be covered by a comprehensive insurance plan, the rest is passed on to the individual and they end up (usually) in debt, which adversely affects the economy, those with inadequate health insurance pay for services they don't need, only to be denied their claims if the insurance company changes their polices and either never notifies the policy holder, or in the in case of the laws prior to the legislation of the ACA, could drop coverage for any reason, at any time, again, passing on the cost to the individual, possibly resulting in loss of employment/assets or bankruptcy. Secondly, the Universal healthcare system in Canada may have a few hiccups, but it has never bankrupted individuals, or the nation itself. Greed is what drives the economics of healthcare in the USA, in Canada, it is the concept of helping others and providing services to ALL regardless of income.

If they know they are unhealthy, then they shouldn't be traveling in the first place. Most insurance companies outlined clearly there is no coverage for pre-existing conditon. If people don't follow the policy and insist buying it, then don't blame on the insurance company when claim denied. To me, these old couples were trying to take advantages of the insurance company and foreign medical treatment to cure their diseases. Just stay home if you are not healthy!

Sorry, Bill, but you blatantly told "untruths" on your survey. Please, someone, explain to me how the insurance company should be help accountable for hundreds of thousands of dollars because Bill didn't realize his colon was part of his lower GI track??????? Sorry, but this whole culture of businesses being responsible for people's ignorance, blatant retardedness, and the expectation that businesses are responsible for charity is infuriating. These idiots who honestly think "Well, I messed up. therefore it is the responsibility of someone else to pay my way," pisses me off. If you need a handout, then simply ask. Don't blame others because you are too stupid to understand your own anatomy.

you have to admit, these forms are not easy to fill out for the average person who is not medically knowledgeable. just as legal contracts are hard to understand as well. they purposefully make forms hard to understand with full awareness of what you are signing. even post secondary schooling doesn't prepare you for this legal & medical jargon unless you specialized in these fields specifically.
