Love your videos! One more reason to get the app as soon as you make your reservations...your flights can change! I reserved tickets in January for travel in July, and my flights changed 3 times. The app will notify you any time your reservation changes. It really saved me because at one point the change meant that I would no longer make it to my destination in time. I was notified in time to make alternate arrangements .

Also, there are exceptions to the 2-bag rule, so it's worth it to note that. Generally, the airline will have a list on its website of what is exempt. Yesterday was the first time in several years where I managed to fly with only 2 bags (carry-on and personal item), as I usually have a 3rd bag whose contents are in the exemption category (U.S. airlines are required to allow things like a bag of medical equipment to be carried on free of charge, even if the passenger already has a carry-on and personal item in addition to it).

I think I posted this to another video, but it bears repeating. On my last flight, I had a single carryon, a soft sided backpack, and the trip was MDW-DTW & DTW-LHR. The Chicago-Detroit segment was a 100-passenger regional jet (a CRJ 700 I believe) and Detroit-London was an A330. This was my first flight in around 14 years. The smaller airplanes have less room for stowing baggage, which I found out the hard way. To be fair on myself, I read the luggage instructions, and made it past the gate agent and at least one flight attendant, so I thought I was doing the right thing. At Midway, I made it to my seat in the back of the plane with my bag, where the flight attendant told me my bag wouldn’t fit. She told me to get my laptop and phone out of my bag; we planned for me to bring my bag to the door for gate checking after boarding was finished. The flight attendant decided to secure my bag to a seat behind me, for which I was most thankful. My bag fit perfectly fine under the seat on the London flight.
@TravelTipsbyLaurie4 жыл бұрын
That is so bizarre. Passengers do not know that part of their flight will be on a small plane; I really think airlines should make it abundantly clear when tickets are bought. How'd you like the 330? Thank you for watching.

@TravelTipsbyLaurie2 жыл бұрын
@@sanjuanaguerra4880 Oh, hi! The airport does not make the bag rules; it will be your airline. And each airline could be different so check with your airline. You can google your airline + carry-on size requirements or just call them. Plan to be on hold for a long time though.

Something that should be noted is that for gate checking a carry-on, for small planes (e.g. United Express jets) where they make you gate check your carry-on bag, for those, they return your bag to you at the gate. For when you volunteer to gate check your carry-on, they will almost always check it all the way through to your final destination, and you have to pick it up at baggage claim. The type of tag they put on it will make it clear whether you will pick it up at the gate or at the baggage claim. I bring that difference up because the first time I asked the gate agent to to gate check my bag, it was sent to baggage claim, and I had to spend 2 1/2 hours on my layover picking it up, getting the issue sorted at the check-in desk (they weren't actually supposed to send it to the baggage claim), going back through security, and finally getting back to my gate (my flights that day were on 2 separate tickets, hence why they wanted to send it to the baggage claim after the first flight and I had to go through the airport again).

Is there a certain time of year to buy airfare cheaper? What is the best airline to fly?
@TravelTipsbyLaurie4 ай бұрын
I do not know of cheaper time of year to buy. But every time you search, they can track that and will probably increase the cost. We choose airlines that have great prices but can get us to the destination with no layovers if possible.

I never have a problem with space in my carryon and bag. My problem is with the weight! Please do a video on how to get that down. I was beside myself trying to get my combined bags under 14lbs. I don't mind, that is about how much I can lift over my head anyway, but some clever tips would be great.

PrincessofErised I learn best by experience and have never done that. I highly recommend the 5 K Traveler blog for a start. She’s so helpful. I do think it is so unfair to be so restrictive on weight. So sorry you have to worry about that.

In regards to the airliner app, what happens if someone doesn't have a smart phone ? Do airports allow you to connect to their wifi? I ask because I use a prepaid phone and would be the only way I can use their app once I'm there.
@TravelTipsbyLaurie3 жыл бұрын
I think you could, but the app would be tied to your credit card with all of your information. I think you may have to have a smart phone. But you can also just check in on your airline's website and print your ticket (boarding pass) at home or at the ticketing line right when you walk in the airport.

Just so you know, emailing or calling the TSA with a question in advance concerning whether or not an item can be carried on board doesn’t always work. You may get a “yes”, but even if you print the email showing the “permission”, if a TSA agent at the security says “no”, they toss it.
