if you have more than 3 prescriptions, it is a good thing to have a list of your medications on a piece of paper. if you do have a medical emergency, it is really easy to just hand the paramedics the paper. if you have a complex medical history, it's handy to have that and allergies listed on the paper as well. - and that's not just for travel. it's a good idea any time.

My husband and I had not traveled abroad much while our children were small, but we've been on a whirlwind since last November. I found you on youtube to update my methods of travel, and you have been a lifesaver. I've always been a light packer, but after using your tips, I am a much SMARTER packer - even my overpacker husband has been converted. You have saved me from a lot of trial and error. I LOVE my carry on, compression cubes, compression socks and sundry that I have bought on your recommendation. Not to mention your tips. I now have a reliable, fast packing routine. We took a trip just this past week from Spokane, WA to Albuquerque. Didn’t have to take liquids bag out for either leg of the trip. For the flight back from ABQ, we didn’t have to take anything out…no laptops, no liquids, nothing. It was nice. One thing I’ve noticed on the two trips I’ve taken this year is that we haven’t had to show our boarding passes at security, only our ID. On this last trip, I volunteered to gate check my carryon suitcase (for free). It was nice not having to wrestle it inside the plane, and fortunately the bags were delivered quickly to the carousel (and not lost!)

for men who haven't seen this before, I have a pair of golf pants that are made to be worn with or without a belt. even if your belt is 100% plastic, you may have to remove it, so I save bother by not wearing one - and I wear laced shoes with the laces tucked inside, instead of tied - and instead of a personal item bag, I wear a light jacket, with everything I normally have in my pants pockets in the jacket pockets, and the pockets zipped closed. that way, at the security line, I just put the jacket in the bin.

if you are going to be checking baggage, or even for your carryon, it works great to put a distinctive wrap on the handle of your suitcase, unless you have a truly unique suitcase. it always seems to work out that about 25% of the suitcases on the airplane are similar in appearance to yours, so putting a distinctive wrap, either by sewing cloth onto it, or by doing a "friendship bracelet" wrap with one or two cords in your color will make it easy to spot at a distance.

I followed many of your tips for my trip last summer to London. One thing I would change for myself is checking my bag because 1) I'm too short to reach bin and 2) I couldn't handle that carry-on, getting it in or out of bin. That doesn't mean I'll overpack. It just means I won't take it on board. I'll still have a personal bag and maybe a light bag, like a tote, that can easily be put up into a bin. Thank you for all of your tips. 😊
@TravelTipsbyLaurie Жыл бұрын
Yes, so glad you realized that. Experience is the best teacher. If you can check a bag, it is super convenient!

Thank you for putting in this comment because I am just about to fly and had no idea how I was going to reach the bin so I will just check my luggage. I wasn’t sure if flight attendants helped out with that these days. They used to but that was about 8 years ago.

@@alexandramcaliece6514 The flight attendant did help me because she was available. Also, other passengers helped me because of their kindness, but you can't always count on availability and kindness to be there when you most need it. That's why I will probably check my luggage in the future.

Love your videos Laurie! I always learn something new. One of the things I like to do instead of taking a picture is scanning a document into notes on iPhone. Open your notes and start a new note. In the options on the bottom tap the camera then select scan documents. Clear documentation every time! Another tip while waiting to board is listening for the gate agent announcing the flight is full and they are asking for volunteers to gate check their baggage. Sometimes they offer a perk with that, but always ask where you will pick up your luggage once you arrive at your next destination.

it bears mentioning that air travel includes a lot of hurry-up-and-wait time. the airport will almost always have shops inside the secure area, and if you search the airport's website, you can get an idea what those shops are. they do tend to be a little more expensive, sometimes because they are selling overpriced trinkets, but also because everything in the shops has to co through security screening, too. but the point is, you can usually get a snack while you're inside security, if your get-there-early time overlaps a mealtime. also, most airports have drinking water inside the secure area, so you can bring a refillable bottle through security, and then fill it inside. and the advice to go to the bathroom just before the plane is scheduled to board is on point. the airplane has a restroom (lavatory) but it's small and awkward. I used to bring a book. now I carry a Kindle when I travel, and usually preload it with more reading than I will actually use.

Rachel, I am so happy for you! I would ask your doc's nurse too. It is completely okay for you to ask the window seat person if they will keep the window shade open until you hear the ding at 10,000 feet. Usually when planes lift off, they will make a turn. Tip: when you buy your ticket, add the need for a wheelchair right onto your ticket. The airlines usually have a questionnaire to find out what type of assistance you will need. That way when you get to the airport they are already alerted that there is a wheelchair needed for a passenger on that flight. Only one time in all my 7+ years of traveling using a wheelchair have I waited more than 10 or 15 minutes for one. And if it is on your boarding pass already then when you get to your destination, the wheelchair is waiting for you when you get off the plane. The only time I’ve ever had a problem with it not being there was when I took a flight that got back after midnight, and a crew member ended up taking me to baggage claim.

@@TravelTipsbyLaurie it was a chartered flight so a tad different. TSA checked us all right beside the plane. They had a couple tables and chairs setup. We put our bags on the tables and sat in the chairs. While one agent would be going through your bag another scanned us with a wand. We didn’t take our shoes off, but we had to lift our legs up and the scanned your shoes. I put a filtered water bottle with water in my personal bag and told them before they searched and they said that was fine. My plan was to fill it up with water after I got through TSA, but since I found out they would be checking us beside the plane I went ahead and put water in it. Someone I know that is a travel guru told me that she always fills her bottle up after going through the check. The flight was awesome. I was excited from start to finish. Hello Laurie. Very good video for flying novices or even those who haven't flown in a long time. For those travelling internationally, it's worth pointing out that things vary from country to country. For example, you talk about the TSA a lot and they control flights starting within the USA. But if you're boarding a plane in another country (even if it's going TO the US), you have to follow that country's rules. So, in Europe, you'll be required to put your liquids into 100ml containers and put all the containers into a ziploc bag 20cm X 20cm. Of course 100ml is the max size of the container; you can use smaller. It's also important to have travel insurance and keep details of your policy no. etc. on your phone or whatever. And if you're using budget airlines, check their baggage allowances. Some are very restrictive. And, of course, you need to know about any visas or permits that are required and whether or not you have to apply in advance or can get them on arrival. Bon voyage !

Such a good travel tips video. I will add that if you have charged your ticket on your credit card, you will have to present yourd credit card when you check in so make sure you have that. Also, I know you travel internationally, and for some travellers, there may be three or four flights, so the situation is slightly different: you will have to check in at the airport desk to get your boarding passes. At this time you can confirm your seat--make sure the plane's configuration is the same as the icon your chose from. This is important if you have any medical reason for needing a specific type of seating. I suggest getting the paper copies of your boarding passes which will give you departure times for subsequent flights AND will show your seat number which may help to avoid possible arguments. Avoid problems: I still use a neckpouch while going through security. Each time I have to show my passport, I immediately tuck it back into the neckpouch. At one airport I pass through, I have to show my passport four times before getting onto the plane. NEVER put your passport down on a table or chair or even in your pocket. I was eating in the airport in Austria. The server picked up a tray at the table where I was sitting, and under the tray were two passports. So keep your passport in your hand or in the neckpouch.

Hi! I have an international flight and I have to go on four planes (three different airlines). I was wondering if I have to re-check my suitcases every time i get off each flight---or will my suitcases be delivered straight to my final destination after only checking it in once?
@janetleeadams72873 ай бұрын
@@arzonoori8017 First, you will probably have your small lightweight 'carry on' bag that you keep with you. Go to the airline clerk who will look at your passport and give you boarding passes for each flight. The clerk will ask you if you have a bag to check. IF you have a bag that you want to 'check,' the clerk will take it and put the identity stickers on the handle. This label will include the 3-letter code for each airport you pass through. The bag will stay with the airline and will arrive at the final destination when you do.

I have to keep her awake on an overnight flight in fear this may happen. There’s nothing I can do but wait the episode out, until she wakes up. We can’t drive to where we are going, and we have to fly. I hope people can be forgiving because my child has special needs… I can be all ready for everything for our flight, except for that. I even paid extra for better seats.

Good job mama. Please is it adviceable to take 2 empty backpacks but pack all your personal items in 1 backpack and then add the other empty backpack to cover the 1 with personal items so that ,in case if the 1bag with items zip spoil ,the other zip will cover it?

Sure I would think so as long as the size dimensions are correct for that airline.

Can you make a video for first time travelers who are moving states or just recommend what I do. I have SO many things I want to take, perfumes, lotions, electronic, books, hygiene products but I don’t know the first thing about traveling on the airplane or how to pack these items. Please and thank you
@TravelTipsbyLaurieАй бұрын
A great idea is to go to tsa.gov and in upper right corner is What Can I Bring? That site teaches you about items but you can also type in an item and it says carryon or checked luggage.

I appreciate your videos! I'll be flying in July to Germany for the first time in about 20+ years. Your videos have been so helpful (especially the international ones). I'm still a bit confused about a couple of things. Does my nasal spray go into a liquids bag? (antihistamine type) and do I need to chuck my portable charger into the grey bins?

I know this is an old video but do you have any tips for if the plane is delayed or when I have to swap planes? Going to USA and have a lay over flight where my bags isn’t automatically transferred to the next plane so have any tips for that??
@TravelTipsbyLaurieАй бұрын
Hi I would pack strategically. And remember that the next plane boards 30-45 mins before the departure time and factor in security if you leave. I would download Netflix shows and plan on walking. Maybe there are Minute Suites you can rent inside that airport. Maybe the airport app will show other cool things.

I dont know if youll see this but I bought my plane ticket for later this year (mainly cause econ seats were selling out) but i got mine through Expedia. Got an itinerary number and its my first time flying but would i get the barcode later or? I didnt get one so idk lol. Edit: I figured it out! if anyone ever has this thought or problem too, don't worry you'll see a 6 digit code in your confirmation email after booking the flight, which you can use on the website of your airline.

I love your channel and watch it all the time. Next summer I am flying to another country for the first time. I am flying to Europe and because of where I live first have to take a connecting flight to the NY city area. A while back I got Global Precheck and a passport for th first time. I read of arriving three hours before an international flight but should I allow more time in the NY airport because of the connecting flight. Also will I have some form of special security check at the NY airport for an international flight. Will there be a security check at the Europe airport both arriving and leaving or a special check when I return to the NY airport. How much time should I have between flights to catch my flight to my home airport from the NY airport. Does it matter where I choose to sit on the plane. Is it best to pay more to sit closer to the front or board sooner. I prefer the least cost and by a window but is boarding sooner worth the extra money.
@TravelTipsbyLaurie Жыл бұрын
Hi! Yes for 3 hours. If you are connecting I would feel better with a 2 hour domestic connection/layover time for delays-just in case. You will probably go through security before that international flight at the gate or maybe not. But if going to Europe, I believe you may have to go through security check points once before exiting for some reason. I talked about boarding near the end of the video but it is really up to you.

Love your videos. They are much appreciated no matter how many times I fly! Correct me if i didn't hear correctly, but i thought i heard you say that personal item bags 'go under your seat' rather than 'go under the seat in front of you'.

Love all of your videos!! I do have a question. American Airlines says to tag your carry on just in case it needs to be checked. Do you get the tags to print off when you check in online? Or do you need to see someone at the airport for that? Also, do you need to make sure your carry on is unlocked when you go thru security?
@TravelTipsbyLaurie10 ай бұрын
Hi they can be locked for the tsa line. If there is no overhead bins, they run out of room in the first 6 boarding groups before everyone else can board if the flight is full. If that happens, the gate agent will tie a paper tag on your luggage free of charge. This video explains: bit.ly/AirplaneOverheadBinSpace

Hi, I enjoy your videos even though I travel internationally several times a year. I have a question about carry-on roller bag size on Air France. My bag is 21.7x`15.7x7.9 and AF is 21.6x13.7x9.8. There was a time, if the linear inches were okay, the bag was okay. I can't seem to find if AF will follow that "linear inches" rule! My bag is a very lightweight (3.7 lbs) Samsonite Black Label Cosmolite Spinner that was made in Europe and I've been using it on BA and Alitalia since 2018. I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars for a new carryon bag. Do you know of one that meets their requirements? I don't check a bag.

I understand why the US airport security rules are strict, but I live in Australia and I was wondering why it’s not strict here, you don’t have to take off your shoes and no body scanners only metal detectors and you can go through security without a boarding pass. Unless international security.

I love all of your videos. Could you please do one video on why you should always choose the currency of the country you’re in. I really think it should be broadcasted to Americans. They say it’s not a scam in the Uk , but when someone is charging you more, it needs to be known. They say the merchants don’t make more money, but the banks do. Either way, it’s taking advantage of innocent travelers. I know you could do an amazing video covering this topic because you do everything amazing in all your videos. Thank you! Ps. I don’t know why it bothers me so much, but it does ! I’ve never had this happen in Paris. It happened in a small town I went to in France. It’s always When I go to London .

Hi many airlines say that f/a cannot help anymore. I would ask a kind passenger. But stand on the seat if it helps. Some passengers give a packet of gum as a thank you or buy the person a snack when the flight attendants come through.
