These are great ideas! I've also used a portable safe (like the ones from Pacsafe) that I can secure to something big or heavy. That way, it would make it really obvious or difficult to walk away with my stuff at the beach.

Exactly right, I finally figured that out last summer---a wonderful waterproof pouch! Car keys are included in this list of essentials, by the way, and nowadays some of the cars (mine included and those I have rented) have electronic keys, so they need to be in the pouch, too. Your advice is perfect.

try using a ziplock to contain your stuff and bury it on the sand then cover it with the sarong

Avicenna Hafizh Seems like a good idea but when the sarong blows a few inches or feet, all the sand looks the same. My kids have lost toys this way.

loved the towel, too. how have those 'waterproof' phone & things worked out for you, Brian? I'm always leery of how waterproof those really are... can never be too careful! :) When I go to the beach/pool/etc, I've had good luck w/my PortaPocket (the XL pocket size has option for Loksak insert...proven to 200' deep)

I did this when I was in Aruba and I need to buy another dry bag, my stuff got a tad damp. I did have my big camera too. Also i tried digging some of my stuff and almost could not find it. I thought I lost it so I won't be doing that again.

[edit] for u that not believing what she said, it is allright, and do whatever best for u.. but be kind, coz kindness is free.. i have try the drybag for almost 10 years, and it does amazingly usefull.. i use it on snorkelling and other water activities.. the waterproof pouch is a great idea, coz u can dive with it, which u cant do with the dry bag.. so.. be nice, people..

Chiquita Goes i have try the dry bag on snorkeling and other water activities.. it is usefull.. i haven't use the pouch though... but i think its smart thinking, coz it is smaller than the dry bag..

Top tip, bring a couple of clean nappies/diapers with you to the beach, wrap your valuables in it, leave it on the sun bed with your stuff. Nobody is going to take a wrapped up baby nappy😂

My idea is better! I take an inflatable mini boat where I put valuables each time I go into the water I take the boat with all the valuables inside. The only thing I"m aware of then are pirates

That would only work in a lake or some flat water like that. In an ocean (which is what she's talking about), there are waves and currents - that definitely wouldn't work for a mini boat.

Well thats how the tourists do it ;) Not bad ideas but I prefer the more fun method that allows you to swim freely without any bags on your body: dig a hole in the sand, put your valuables in there (try not to bring important stuff, normally you do not need your ID on the beach or take a copy!), cover it with sand nicely and smoothly and put your towel/sarang over it, done :) No thief will start digging beneath every towel it would take too long and draw too much attention. This method never failed me, even in Rio ;)
