Travel Trailer Weight Distribution Hitch Sway Bar Storage Solution

We recently bought another trailer and I decided to make a storage area for our sway bars.
On our last trailer we had something similar I had made and enjoyed having a place to store them rather than the back of our truck or garage.
Here's how I made our Equalizer 4-point Sway Control & Weight Distribution Hitch Sway Bar Storage Tubes. I'll show you how I did it step by step.

Nice mod and great video with excellent step by step instructions. We are road trip campers who often stay only one night in a campground before moving on. When I unhook, so we can leave camp in the truck, I nearly always leave my Equalizer bars attached to the hitch head, swing each of them forward to the bumper and secure with bungees. Your mod would be great for me when we stay longer at a campground and, of course when stored at home.

Thanks Jamie. Like I mentioned in the video I had a set up like this on our other trailer and I must say my wife and I really liked having the storage tubes. What's nice is when we hook up at home, she guides me back and sets the trailer on the ball, we are on each side of the trailer hitch and slide the bars out and each of us take care of our side. The same thing happens in reverse when we get to campgrounds. I like that they are out of site and out of the way all the time. www.youtube.com/@thetraveltrailerguy/videos

Thank you Steve. Here's an idea I've been thinking about for a long time for a possible solution to "L" shaped bars and storing them in a tube. So my thinking is that once the threaded end is glued onto the pipe and dried you can cut a notch through the threads and wide enough and deep enough to allow the bar to slide in and the L part to hang down through the pipe and still be able to put the cap on. I like this idea, I hate the greasy mess the bars make in our forward storage. I suppose I could bag the ends but they also create some awkward storage issues for bins. Anyway, did you think about using stronger ABS which is also UV resistant?

Great question about ABS vs PVC pipe. I used ABS to make the bar holders on our last trailer and they held up great. They didn't get much sunlight and the weather where we live doesn't get cold for long periods or periods on extreme heat. So it held up well where is the ABS pipe was under the trailer, if it was exposed to UV it can become brittle and break. Since yours is a Lance I see why you mounted the tubes below the frame. I did a similar thing with one longer 4” ABS tube above the frame. Unfortunately (at this time) I have L-bars with chains so I don’t have end caps. The bars hang out & down while camped. I like your suggestion earlier to place a threaded coupler and notch it for the protruding bar. Have you thought about attaching the end caps to the clamp bolt with a short length of small gauge chain or wire rope. That way the caps won’t get dirt in the threads or wonder off if you set them down.

Thank you, fortunately I'm pretty busy with all my own trailer and home projects all the time. All my friends and family members are always calling me to fix their stuff to LOL. We're heading out on a 7,000 mile 3 month cross country trip Tuesday so I can rest :)
