these guards and cops assigned to the malls keeps these places safe from criminals like store takeover specially jewelry shops which is likewise happening in the states now, looters, shop lifters, bank robberies inside mall, etc. The reason why store looting is not happening here. Just dont feel awkward about the guard searching your bag or belongings, or the scanner, that gives you extra security for your safety😊😊😊

Oh yeah, my new fav foreign vlogger in Manila. Cheers! SM North EDSA is the biggest mall in PH btw in terms of the quantity of shops and spaces. The reason why all malls have a scanner and security is to protect the business from any possible bombings or terrorist acts. Manila had experienced a simultaneous bombing incident in the 2000s, a metro train station, a bus in the city, a mall in Makati, near the US embassy, and an almost exploded bomb detonated at the international airport, all happened in 1 day of Dec. 30, 2000. So basically never ever again to happen, PH learned from that one.

Taho - is also one of Filipino staple breakfast-to-go or sometimes snack. Best served hot in the morning. Its made of soy curd with "sago" or tapioca pearls and sugar syrup or "arnibal". Its liked softened tofu

I'm sure you already know why everyone speaks english and if you noticed, it has a big American influence, but still deep in its culture. The Philippines was under the United States before it became independent a few years after WW2 and it's a major US ally. You need more time to travel the country. They're checking for illegal weapons which is not allowed inside the mall to prevent mass shootings like they have in the US or Thailand. Security are everywhere as deterrent to massive shoplifting like most stores in america.

The reason is simple ... Safety... Cause there is a few incident where robbers rob the mall using any kind of hard thing specialy hammer to break the glass of jewelry..watch ...phone.. Etc anykind expensive that on display on the glass shelf.. Or a bladed weapon worst is gun... So they always check the bag so they make sure no weapon or improvise weapon will go inside to do bad things... Also mall is one of the best spot to trade drugs cause theres is no police and no one will suspect you there... So checking belongings can prevent at least a bad doing inside the mall

Thanks for the vlogs. We're Fil-Canadian and so we're happy you found your way to the Philippines. From the comments below, yes security guards serve many roles -- guides, information, security, lost and found, etc. The entrances are quite secured with metal detectors and inspections. It did not use to be like this, but in the recent past there have been many mall bombings made by terrorist groups so malls have upgraded measures to at least deter carry-on weapons and bombs. It's not 100% but it helps provide some sense of security. SM Malls are the biggest in the Philippines (Mall of Asia, MegaMall, etc.) The nearby cities of Pasig, Makati, Manila and Quezon City will of course provide you with more choices of malls because Pinoys are very mall-oriented people. We love our malls. The reason why there are very few seats in wide mall aisles is also to encourage foot traffic. The more people walk, the more they will spend. It's all economics. The lack of rest areas is balanced by the sheer number of stalls with outside seating. Enjoy your stay in the Metro areas. Hopefully you can visit the islands as well. Love from Vancouver, BC.

At the back of the Mall is the Seaside we have a Big Eye Ferris Wheel there are many amusement parks and food stalls but i know its raining. Good that you utilized inside the mall. On the left side we have MOA Arena for Concerts and we also have IKEA ,one of the biggest store.

For the bag inspection, there was a time in the Philippines in the 90's to early 00's where terrorism is rampant. To combat this, bag inspection has now become a kind of culture when entering establishments such as mall and banks. If you carry a firearm, you can deposit it with the security guards and get it back when you leave.

Why Filipinos loved going to malls. Aside from aircon. It serves an array of business establishment. You've got it all. Drugstore, wine cellar, theater, groceries from meat section to dry goods and wet market, sports center, different varieties of food, coffee shop, kiosk, bargain center, loading center, skating area, fastfood, art exibit area, banks, church, playroom for kids, call center, medical clinic, some government agencies like SSS, BIR or Philhealth, some have travel agency for booking, huge depatment store that serves clothing or appliance center and many more just to name a few.... A one stop shop. So, next time you stroll. Plan your itinerary to accomplish many things in one place in one day.

Though not happening anymore, security is related to terrorist threats 20 years ago. If you recall, there was a shooting incident at a posh mall in Bangkok two weeks ago. Now Bangkok is implementing strict security measures at its malls.
