As a diver, Cozumel is a regular spot. Agree on the comments about renting villas (air BNB) as a nice way to enjoy Cozumel. We rent scooters to get to the beach clubs and tour the island to give flexibility and save on taxis. The trip around the complete island is not long or difficult and there are great places to stop on the West side to rest or go for a swim. Yes, stay off the booze driving them as you point out.

As a lone female, I was targeted by a waiter in a restaurant called CHILE TEQUILA on the waterfront. I started going there after dark to listen to the band. I was having a beer, when I noticed the flashing lights of the police behind my car with Texas license plates. My waiter went to my car as the police were removing the license plates. The waiter said a couple of sentences to the police and then put the plates back on. When we got back to my table, he insisted that I owned him $100 US. I was reluctant to do this, I was extorted 2,000 pesos. His accomplice stood and ran my credit card through. The next day I took a male Texas friend with me to the owner, who just laughed at me. My landlord is a taxi driver and told me the owner is connected with some bad people that he pays to protect him. Then I found out from a Texas friend who just moved down here as I did that a friend of hers get scammed out of $500 US for a $50 bottle of tequila by the same restaurant. After I couldn't get anything done I filed a complaint at the tourist police. A lot of the police here are bad as well. Beware of CHILE TEQUILA.

Went to Cozumel June 22 and loved it. Ciello beach is gorgeous, if you can stay on the water with a "pier" scuba companies will pick you up with their boat making for an awesome experience (we used Dive with Martin who were fantastic), Buchannos is well worth the trip if you enjoy a great meal on the pricier side for the island. Pay with pesos when possible particularly with taxis since the rate is fixed, but their conversion rate is terrible, if not outright theft, if you pay with US dollars. If you get an AirBnB make sure to hit the local supermarket. Prices are great and plenty of variety.

I have had the distinct pleasure of going to Cozumel 6 times. Four times we stayed at various resorts and one visit was on a cruise. My overall recommendation would be is to rent a home, villa or condo. We rented a villa on the north side of the island away from the cruise ships. We shopped the local grocery stores for our meal items and we rented a car. We also went to Bucannos at night which is a wonderful restaurant. A suggestion for avoiding high cab fares, at least on the mainland: During a 2009 trip I was informed by one of the locals about something they call "autobus". Its basically just locals using their personal minivans to shuttle people around to set destinations. The taxi from the tourist area was going to charge me US $20 to Tulum. Autobus was less than $1.

Thanks for this Great video! What car rental agency would you recommend and which would you stay away?
@TravelDroner Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for watching the video and for your kind words! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Regarding car rental agencies in Cozumel, I cannot recommend any agency. Watch out for those who use street hustlers attempting to sell rental cars as this can be a red flag. Reputable businesses usually don't engage in such practices and rely on their established reputation and quality service to attract customers. In light of this, I agree that it's important to exercise caution and be wary of any car rental agency that relies on street hustlers or employs aggressive sales tactics. Opting for well-known and reputable rental agencies with a track record of good customer service is generally recommended. Additionally, the same principle can be applied to restaurants. If you notice someone outside a restaurant aggressively trying to lure in customers, it's advisable to approach the situation with caution and consider other dining options. Ultimately, it's always a good idea to trust your instincts and choose businesses that have a solid reputation and positive reviews. This way, you can have a more enjoyable and stress-free experience during your visit to Cozumel. Here are some additional tips for renting a car in Cozumel: Book your car in advance, especially if you're traveling during peak season. Ensure you understand your rental agreement's terms and conditions, especially the insurance policies. Take pictures of the car before you drive away so you have proof of any damage that was already there. I hope these tips help you have a smooth and pleasant experience during your trip!

Hi there! Thank you for your kind words; we're glad you found the video helpful. Cozumel is a beautiful island to explore! Renting a car can allow you to explore at your own pace. However, consider how much you plan to actually use it.it's important to note that while Cozumel is stunning, it is somewhat limited in attractions for a whole week. It's a relatively small island, and many of its highlights can be visited in a few days. Unless you plan to venture outside the resort almost every day, a rental car for the entire week might not be necessary. A good balance could be renting a car for a couple of days to explore and spending the rest of your time enjoying what the all-inclusive resort offers. You could also consider guided tours for specific attractions, as they often provide transportation and can offer more insight into the places you visit. You'll surely have a fantastic time in Cozumel, whichever you choose! 🏝☀"

Exciting plans for your family trip to Cozumel! Punta Sur Del Cielo Beach Club is a stunning choice - you guys will love it. Getting there from the cruise port by taxi is pretty straightforward. You'll find plenty of taxis at the port, and the drivers know their way around well, especially to popular spots like Punta Sur. Just a couple of tips to smooth out your trip: The ride can take a bit, depending on traffic, so factor that into your beach time. It's a good idea to agree on the taxi fare before hopping in to avoid any surprises. And for the way back, you might want to set a pickup time with the same driver or make sure you've got a plan for hailing a taxi at the beach. Hope your family has an amazing time in Cozumel and enjoys every moment at the beach club!

Double check taxi fare with the actual driver at the cruise port. Don’t take the person who is canvassing passengers for the taxi lineup’s word for it. Had a price from a lady at the stand, another passenger came along and took that cab as we Comte,plates it. Then decided to go for it but another driver had stepped up to the platform and once in his car he upped the price! But I was ok with it, he just ensured his tip as he didn’t get one from me at the destination. On the way back the taxi driver gave me a price which he adhered to and when we arrived back at the port he did get a tip! Just remember to double check the price of anything.

Thank you so much! I was just about to think “I’ve watched dozens of videos what else could I possibly learn before going?” And then this! Thank you!! I’m wondering if you can answer a question regarding the drinking water - when eating at restaurants do you advise avoiding ice in drinks or do restaurants use bottled water to make it? Also, I have heard you shouldn’t eat any raw vegetables or fruit that hasn’t been peeled to avoid potential parasites. This would limit food choices quite a bit! Is this something that is advised as well? Thanks!
@TravelDroner Жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching my video on traveling to Cozumel and for leaving such a positive comment! I'm glad to hear that you found my video informative and helpful. Regarding your questions about drinking water and food choices in restaurants, drinking water in restaurants in Cozumel is generally safe. Most restaurants use filtered or purified water to make ice and beverages, so you don't need to worry too much about getting sick from the water. As for eating raw vegetables and fruit, there is indeed a risk of parasites or other contaminants in some types of produce. However, many restaurants in Cozumel take precautions to ensure their ingredients are clean and safe. If you're concerned about eating raw vegetables or fruit, you could ask your server if they have been washed thoroughly or if they have any recommendations for safe menu choices. Overall, I believe that Cozumel is a safe and enjoyable place to visit, and many delicious and healthy food options are available. I hope this helps, and I wish you a wonderful trip!

How safe are the marked taxis?
@TravelDroner Жыл бұрын
It's generally considered safe to use them. However, as with any form of transportation in a foreign country, it's important to exercise caution and use common sense. Some tips to ensure your safety while using marked taxis in Cozumel include: Ask the driver for the fare before getting in the taxi to avoid any misunderstandings later on. Avoid getting into a taxi with strangers, and don't share a taxi with someone you don't know. Keep your belongings close to you and avoid displaying any valuables. Following these simple precautions can help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience while using marked taxis in Cozumel.

That's so exciting - moving to Cozumel is a dream for many! Living on an island with such incredible marine life and vibrant culture will surely be an adventure. Here are a few tips for settling in for the long haul: Learn Some Spanish: If you haven't already, try to pick up some Spanish. It will make your daily life much easier and is also a sign of respect for the local culture. Embrace the Local Lifestyle: Things may move at a different pace compared to what you're used to. Embrace the 'island time' and the local customs to truly become a part of the community. Get to Know Your Neighbors: Building relationships with locals can enrich your experience. They can offer advice, help you navigate local bureaucracy, and might even invite you to a home-cooked meal. Be Mindful of the Environment: Living on an island, especially one with such a delicate ecosystem, means being extra conscious about reducing your environmental impact. Prepare for the Climate: The weather can be hot and humid, and there's a rainy season to consider. Make sure your home is prepared for the elements, and invest in good air conditioning and dehumidifiers. Stay Healthy: Familiarize yourself with the local healthcare system and know where the nearest hospital or clinic is. Also, be aware of any potential health advisories, like mosquito-borne illnesses. Budget Accordingly: While Cozumel can be cheaper than many places in the US or Europe, some things can be more expensive, especially imported goods. Plan your finances with local costs in mind. Explore the Island: Don't let the beauty of Cozumel escape you. Take time to explore the island, not just the tourist spots but also the less-traveled paths. Stay Connected: If you're coming from afar, find ways to stay connected with friends and family back home. Internet services are available, but it's good to check the reliability in your specific area. Enjoy the Water: Since your girlfriend will be working in a dive shop, you'll have plenty of opportunities to enjoy the water. Respect the ocean, but don't forget to take advantage of living in one of the best places in the world for diving. Remember, moving to a new place can have its challenges, but it's also an incredible opportunity for growth and new experiences. Best of luck with your move, and I hope Cozumel becomes a home you both love! 🏝🐠

My 15 year old will turn 16 the week of the trip so he won't be able to get his license until we get back, and we wanted to let him drive the buggy for his birthday. Just make sure he won't spend his birthday at the Torito(Mexican temporary jail) for x amount of time when caught doing things like that I would not recommend in any way doing anything illegal in Mexico, or it will cost you a lot of dollars, and you will ruin your vacation especially if you don't speak Spanish and are not familiar how things are done down here with that said there are many police roadblocks around the island just waiting for tourists or locals to break the law being it speeding or whatever they will fine you a hefty fine if its bigger issue they drag you to jail until you see a judge the next 72 hours, so I don't think it is a good way to spend your vacation time.
