Any particular reason you chose the photo of Adam changing the guard?

If you mean for the thumbnail…I felt it was the best one that represented what we made for the video. Do you know him? That’s kinda cool 🙂

@@WalkwithHistory Yes, very well. SSG Adam Dickmyer, TGIB #528. Adam eventually became a Relief Commander, and was the lead on Senator Kennedy's casket team. After The Old Guard he became a Platoon Sergeant in the 101st Airborne (Air Assault). Adam was KIA in Kandahar on 28 October 2010. He is buried in Section 60. Adam was truly a good man and excellent Soldier.

@@WalkwithHistory Was a nice surprise to see you using his photo.
I first visited Arlington National Cemetery in the summer of 2015. One of my highlights was visiting the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. To keep this short, as a disabled veteran watching the changing of the guard ceremony, I had a lump in my throat & tears in my eyes as I was so proud to be among our Nation's most honored dead. Everyone I met was so respectful and helpful. The grounds were so clean and quiet that I couldn't hear my breathing. As the commentator had mentioned, taking the tram was a good idea as the cemetery is too large to see every section in one visit. Enjoy 🇺🇸🇺🇸❤

I have been to Washington DC a number of times and would like to add a few extra tips that weren't covered here. My First tip would be that while there are 400,000 Graves more people are being buried in the cemetery while it sounds obvious if you see a burial ceremony going on stay a distance and salute respectfully. Secondly for anyone visiting with autism or sound sensitivity keep in mind that you may hear Rifle fire during a funeral ceremony. I suggest keep ear plugs on hand if not used to loud noises. With the Tomb of the unknown soldier close by remember to remain silent,don't cross any barriers regardless of how much you want to get a closer look and keep your children from causing horseplay, The Sentinels who guard the tomb take their duty serious. Lastly don't bring food or drink with you to the tomb of the unknown soldier or if you do keep items in your backpag,purse etc. The Sentinels don't want the risk of waste being left behind while on guard.

Excellent points. Food isn't allowed in the Cemetery, but ANC does encourage visitors to bring water, particularly during the summer. Not unusual to have people falling out at the Tomb, just not prepared for the heat and humidity.

I said it before and like a broken record or a clock (correct twice a day) I will say again. We enjoy the interaction with the three kids. They are growing so fast. Cheers 🍻.

At one time families were permitted to purchase their own stones, and they were limited to a few sections. That practice was stopped some years ago. Only regulation stones now.

Hi, thanks for putting together the great video! We want to visit our grandfather but we don't have a family pass. Can anyone visit the gravesites or is a pass required to enter? Thanks in advance for the help!
@WalkwithHistory5 ай бұрын
Arlington is open to everyone with no pass required. I think immediate family can get passes to drive on if they have family there…but I don’t really know much about those kids of passes. You should be able to visit your grandfather with no issues baring any unexpected events. (We visited once when the president was there and large areas were closed off for a couple hours) Good luck on your visit. 😊

@@WalkwithHistory They walk the the 21 steps back and forth no matter the weather 24-7-365 !!! What an honor it was to watch the changing of the guard . How the precision and honor THE OLD GUARD gives these heroes known only to GOD ! I watched it with tears streaming down my face ! Then to see the thousands of white crosses and Stars of David where like I said the TRUE PRICE OF FREEDOM is buried in this hallowed ground ! They gave it all for "MY" freedom !

My father is buried there. Please dont climb on trees. I agree that people want visitors but its not a playground to run and climb in. Its a place to honor and remember. In the Welcome center they don’t even allow people to sit on the floor as that’s disrespectful.

No, your kids running around are just as DISRESPECTFUL to the fallen as ill-mannered adults doing the same thing. Stop projecting what YOU think that the dead and THEIR families are thinking, that's just WEIRD, be better parents and teach your kids some respect.
@WalkwithHistoryАй бұрын
Stop projecting what YOU think about the dead. They were running towards a friend of mine grave who left 2 boys my kids ages and his widow loves to let her boys run to their dad, she wanted my kids to feel the same. So I am not telling you what I think they think but what I know they think. Thank you for watching. I hope when you remember the fallen you remember their lives and not just their deaths. And I think as both of us are Service members we teach our kids well!!!
@jakklumpАй бұрын
I am also a service member who considers Arlington a sacred site that NOBODY should show disrespect toward, you having someone buried there does not let you set the standards FOR EVERYONE that is buried there and THEIR FAMILIES, the standards that EVERYONE SHOULD FOLLOW whether child or adult. Also, didn't you instruct others that they should walk respectfully amongst the graves? Damn.
@WalkwithHistoryАй бұрын
You see us walking, we are not running. We never ever say that people should run. I was instructing on how our kids help us find graves. We don’t let them run when they do that, we told them if they wanted to run our friends grave they could because he would love that. Not Everyone, that one!!! Please don’t project what you think on us, please don’t put words in our mouth. Our kids leaving flags was also shown, how is that disrespectful. We make a point to visit, to bring our family we are actually teaching to respect by being present and not forgetting those that came before us.
