This week we leave beautiful Palawan and go on to the unexplored south of Mindoro: Bulalacao. Even though Bulalacao is not the most visited destination in the Philippines, it's definately worth a visit. The people in and around the village are open and friendly, and all the paradisely islands… well, you'll have them all just for yourself! So don't miss out on Bulalacao on your way to Puerto Galera ;)

General information:
The hotel we stayed is South Drive.
www.bulalacaomi...
If you want to stay really in the village, this is the only guesthouse at the moment. There are also two resorts on the main land:
Felipa Lodge and a resort that the owners of the South Drive are building.
On one of the islands is the Tambaron Green Beach resort.
Our tour was arranged by South Drive. The boy and the girl guiding us were really cool! And they were so obviously enjoying showing us around, I can only advise you to go with them and have fun :)
The island tours (you don't see it obviously in the movie, but we did two separate boatrides) were arranged by South Drive. But you can also walk to the shore and ask the boatmen to take you.

CAMERA equipment I use
**Canon Powershot N100 - amzn.to/2aEbDZS (affiliate)
A budget option I loved very much for my first year of travel vlogging.
** Sony RX100 mk4 - amzn.to/2awvMyn (affiliate)
Oh my, how I love this new camera! Use this one from the Batanes series (Philippines II) onwards.
** GoPro HERO4 Silver - amzn.to/2aEpnqy (affiliate)
I mainly use this camera for under water shots. Love the little screen at the back so your shots will not be a surprise till you're at your computer
** Joby Gorilla Pod - amzn.to/2aIFsJd (affiliate)
Small and compact, will stable shots. Love this mini tripod. Especially when traveling alone it's a great help.

+aldwin diego Hi! Good question. We took the boat from the general harbor in Coron, I am not sure if there are many? We did not arrive in Bulalacao, but in San Jose. We stayed one night in a hotel here and took a bus to Bulalacao. I am not sure if you're able to go to Bulalacao directly - maybe by now you are. It's worth checking! Otherwise the San Jose construction is nice too :)

Such a great video! :) Have you ever been to the Philippines in the rainy season? Because I am thinking about going there in August and September, but I am not sure if it will be worth it when there is heavy rain. Do you have any advise for me? :)
@TravelGretl
@TravelGretl 8 жыл бұрын
+Lena H. Good question! I've only been here januari, and will go back april/may. Can't say anything about raining season! Only that it varies for the different regions, so if you go, check where there is the least chance of rain. Since beaches and nature are a big part of the fun (versus museums and other indoors activities elsewhere, for example) I would not advise going in rain season! But haven't experienced it myself :)
@glennuncio5748
@glennuncio5748 7 жыл бұрын
Travel Gretl Do not go to the Philippines during rainy season. The best time to go to the Philippines during summer and Christmas time. Go there during December up to May. I would advice you to go there December 20 onwards so that you can see and feel how the Filipinos celebrate Christmas and new year in the Philippines plus you can travel around the Philippines at that time.

Hi Gretl, Awesome channel! Lovely narration and great information on your vids. You're a great travel host and your personality really shines through. I've only met a a few people from the Netherlands and feel a kindred spirit with the Dutch. Everyone I've met is fun loving, happy, friendly, open and non judgemental. If my parents had immigrated to your country instead of the US I would be just as happy. I can't believe you took a small boat from Palawan to Mindoro. Very adventurous of you and your companion, I would have opted to fly over that much ocean. What was the fair? How long did it take? Keep up the good work.
@TravelGretl
@TravelGretl 8 жыл бұрын
+wcoastbo Hi there, thank you so much! Are you originally from the Philippines? :) I really hope that would have happened if your parents would've came here! Truth is there are many good people, happy and open, but also some that are afraid. They make living in the Netherlands much harder, especiallly for people from abroad. I feel unpleasant about that! But I know you are right, most people are kind and non judgemental :) Thank you! Haha, we did not really think it through I think, we were surprised by the roughness. I am not sure what it costed or how long it took. I think timewise it was 8 hours or so - def just one day - but I was so seasick, I had not the slightest idea of time no more! At some point we were soaked from the water and not allowed to move anymore because of the high waves. Definitely in the category of 'once in a lifetime' adventures, hahaha!
@wcoastbo
@wcoastbo 8 жыл бұрын
Travel Gretl Yes originally from Phils. When we immigrated the world was a different time and place, politically we can't compare the two eras, also my circumstance was different than the majority we are currently witnessing on news media. During my parents time the US was looking for professionals with degrees. I'm sure it helped that they already spoke the language, and as a former colony already understood the culture. Also as a group Pinoys tend to assimilate easily with the culture they adopted, or adopted them and still feel true to their heritage. Even war/political refugees from past decades did not have as many obstacles to overcome. My Vietnamese cousins have prospered in the US, they have managed to assimilate and keep their culture at the same time. I can't think of a better success story for a large mass of refugees that arrived on boats. Will the same be of the current situation? I don't know, but it will be much more difficult than in previous mass migrations. At the moment it does not look good all parties involved. It's selfish but I'm glad to be an outsider looking in. I would enjoy exchanging our opinions and I think you could give me other perspectives, but that discussion is for another place. Your channel is about travel. I have started watching your vids and hope to visit Amsterdam and other parts of your beautiful country some day. I'll start practicing a few phrases. -Bo

Haha...the village not used to tourists there. You're a VIP don't be afraid of the police. In your country maybe you would think you did something wrong if they follow you. Mangyan is the only tribes found in Mindoro. My family always scolded me why I have so many scars in my legs.I was that kid that go up the coconut tree. Me and my friends always have fun climbing trees, running in the ricefields and oceans..now I'm in Chicago. Totally different life. I miss those years when I was a kid. Great travel vlog Gretel.

That is really a beautiful island, eating sea urchins is an acquired taste, i'm Filipino but I don't have the taste for them, it sucks when you grow up in a city. Bulalacao translates to "falling star" in english. Be safe and have fun with your travels.
@TravelGretl
@TravelGretl 9 жыл бұрын
Haha, sometimes it does ;) It felt to me a bit like eating oisters! Also that is something you describe: you need to have the taste for it. Cool! I did not know what Bulalacao stood for. No one told me that before. Why is it called falling star? It's a nice name! Thank you :)
@i.p.error4044
@i.p.error4044 9 жыл бұрын
TravelGretl Bulalacao is Tagalog word for falling star, maybe because of the shape of the island that's why they named it bulalacao

Travel Gretl If you are referring to Luzon, we Filipinos highly reccomend the following: Batanes (truly magical), Caramoan (in some aspects it has beaten El Nido), Albay (to se the majectic Mayon Volcano) and walk on black sand, Pagudpud (Boracay 30 years ago), Samar (to see pink sand) (Samar is part of visaya though)

Life is so simple in Bulalacao, Mindoro. Bulalacao means "A big meteor" was sparkling-down on the night sky until it crashed to an island that was eventually pulverized and turned into white sand as the local-adage says....

It's true! We did not see / show exactly all we've seen in the surroundings :) I make some choices in the video. At every place we come I miss some things about the surroundings. Like it when people also have a littlebit left to discover for themselves ;) And time is limited of course (both on the spot as in the video) We see three islands (including the one of tambaron) and we have not been to the waterfalls and the seaports. I am sorry you miss them in the video! Are you from Bulalacao originally? :)

Peanut Butter Haha, nooo! I just get to close to dangerous things and scare people. I do that too with edges of cliffs (luckily we don't have them much in the Netherlands ;) and with roads. Even strangers that just happen to stand next to me grab my arm to hole me back sometimes. Maybe I am dangerous, I don't know ;)
