I was in Honduras almost 30 years ago. Recognized the big falls you went too. Glad to see you guys spent some time there instead of blasting through like so many others do. Even back then we were warned to be careful on the road we took to Copan and San Pedro Sula.

Dude I am so with you on the super rad 4x4 idea 😆 just get a winch and traction boards and you won't need anybody else.

Jk obviously that's not very practical 😅 But I'm a nomad and I've definitely had the same fantasy
@TheTravelingTogetherJournal3 жыл бұрын
Its all compromise. Plenty of people traveling around in rad 4x4s, but they give up camp comforts, storage, and/or on-road performance. Just depends on what the adventure is that you are preparing for in my opinion.

Yeah. It sounds like a tricky situation. I know many borders have been closed, but I haven't heard anything about tourist visas or temporary vehicle import permits being extended. Bureaucratic/logistical stuff always felt like a crapshoot before. It must be imposable to get consistent, reliable information now.

Lots of beautiful places in all three countries. If you have time to stop in lots of places, then going by land would be my choice 😁However you decide to travel, it will be a great trip!

Thank you for your very informative videos, you guys rock...Question, how safe do you feel with leaving all the stuff in your cars at night? Safety overall , have you encountered any issues and if so where?
@TheTravelingTogetherJournal6 ай бұрын
Hi Benny I don't park on the street overnight in any city if I can help it. If I have to, I take as much stuff out of the truck as possible. The only incident that we had was in Guatemala. It could have escalated badly, but Amie stayed calm and a local guy helped us out. We go into the details about that incident and talk about safety in this video: kzbin.infoqyAkjDnxrD0 If you have any other specific concerns, I'd be happy to discuss them with you.

Update on the Regular cab T100 you guys picked up?
@TheTravelingTogetherJournal4 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, not much to report. I've done some maintenance and repairs, but haven't torn into her yet. Our local municipality made it illegal for me to park Blue Beauty near where we live, so I had to put her in storage and drive the new T100 as my daily driver for now.

Was curious to know what you'd consider driving on a tour of Africa? Something like a Landcruiser or larger like an Earthcruiser? Or even a full size truck with a lightweight pop up camper? Maybe you're still in the pondering process.... Thanks for the video ;=)
@TheTravelingTogetherJournal4 жыл бұрын
In my opinion, good vehicle selection depends more on YOU than anything else. While land cruisers, Rav4, Mitsubishi montero, or Suzuki grand vatara are all good choices for 4x4s with parts availability in Africa, they just don't have the space or cargo weight capacity that we would want. Earthcruisers have their appeal, but they are way out of our budget and bigger than I would want. That extra size and weight can really work against you in a lot of situations. Given our budget and needs, I would stick with the T100, but go to a single cab longbed and build a better camper on a custom utility bed. It's not the best at anything, but it's also not the worst and a good overland vehicle is going to be a compromise. Its midsize platform with a 1 ton payload capacity and decent fuel efficiency for under $5000 make it an appealing build platform for me.
@marcpikas28594 жыл бұрын
@@TheTravelingTogetherJournal Thanks for the response. Hope you can find that T 100 with low miles. Definitely add a larger gas tank for long distances. I'll be following your progress for sure, especially the camper building part.
@TheTravelingTogetherJournal4 жыл бұрын
@@marcpikas2859 I actually bought one a couple months ago. Not low miles, but they only made it 1 year with the engine and everything I want so can't be too picky. With our current camping setup fully loaded we were getting 15.5 mpg on average, so 356 mile range with the stock fuel tank. Are you from Africa and/or planning a trip there? What do you think the minimum range should be for an overland vehicle on the continent?
@marcpikas28594 жыл бұрын
@@TheTravelingTogetherJournal Sorry, no experience with Africa. Been following ASPW who has substancial experience overlanding in Africa and he seems to push for above 600 miles/tank with a diesel Troopy. He also goes to far out of the way places like you guys enjoy doing. I'm impressed with your very decent fuel consumption. I'll likely be traveling the roads of South America before going to Africa.
@TheTravelingTogetherJournal4 жыл бұрын
@@marcpikas2859 Wow, 600 miles! I thought an extra 5 gallons to bring my range up to 430 would have been plenty. We only needed the our extra fuel once on our entire trip and that was in Baja. Our Africa travels are unfortunately going to be years away still, so we haven't really started looking into the logistics or rout planning since things can change so much between now and then, but traveling through Central and South America definitely sounds way easier from my initial perusal.

Yeah. We've had some really cool interactions with guides on other trips that were very informative despite our language barrier and were interested in us as well since we often go places that don't attract a lot of international tourism. Never know what you're going to get, just make the best of it and move on :)
