Nicaraguan expat here. You guys were so honest to inform that lady of the bumper bender. Shame she was dishonest and tried to swindle you guys. Unfortunately, some dishonesty is still ingrained into the culture of Nicaragua and much of Latin America. BTW, I really enjoy your vlogs and hope your travels go well, take care.

Thanks Henry. We just wanted to do the right thing. It just ended up being a little more complicated than I expected. I was really happy with the professionalism of the police though. I lived in Nicaragua for a year 8 years ago and feel like the police conduct has improved since then.
@projectnerdvana2820 Жыл бұрын
Exactly. Lived in Managua for 2 years with a registered CR-V. Bad luck has it i had like 3 beers and baked up into a motorcycle. 3 scratches and the other tried to do the same. They were politically motivated since they couldn't get money out of me and cops took my license.

That left point looked like it had serious potential on a south swell. YEW!
@TheTravelingTogetherJournal5 жыл бұрын
Yeah. it looked like a promising set up. Needed more west in the swell, or just a bigger south west and it may have been on, but that's how it goes when you're just passing though.

I hope you made a note of where that left point set up was at 12:14! Looked like it had potential
@TheTravelingTogetherJournal2 жыл бұрын
Yeah. A few spots with potential out there, but not the most swell exposed part of the coast. Definitely have some Areas I would like to explore more if I'm ever there with a swell.

That bumper lady was ridiculous! And the timing for waves not so good. But overall things went your way. Loved how you just made it under that fallen tree! And your excellent paperwork skills satisfied the police. Gotta say, (is this silly?) I love Amie’s different hairstyles and cute bathing suits!

Great video guys as always. As an ocean kayak fisherman , if it don’t feel right meaning the ocean ,there is no disgrace in surf casting.
@TheTravelingTogetherJournal5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jay. There are plenty of times when I choose to surf cast instead of heading out with the speargun, but when it comes to surfing I can usually get comfortable in the waves. Nicaragua has been challenging me though, with some long paddle outs and no other surfers in sight. All part of the adventure :)

Awesome opening view! Bummer on the fender bender drama, people try to get real greedy at times.
@TheTravelingTogetherJournal5 жыл бұрын
Those sunrises were awesome. The fender bender was frustrating, but it was my fault and it could have gone worse if the police officers wanted to be shady, so I wasn't too bummed about it by the next day.

Including the bumper incident how much money you spent to get out of sticky situation?
@TheTravelingTogetherJournal5 жыл бұрын
The bumper cost me $150 usd... I think that's it. We never paid any bribes or "fines" to police. We got tricked out of $20usd at the Mexican border, but we didn't realize it until we were trying to leave Mexico, so nothing we could do about it. As a rule, we would have to feel pretty stuck or in danger before we would consider "greasing the gears" and lucky for us we never felt it was necessary.
@MaxZomboni5 жыл бұрын
The Traveling Together Journal On the bright side, if it happened in the US, that damage would have cost you about $1,500 or maybe $600 of increased insurance rates, if you went that route.

I am so sorry that that happened to you guys the police there are a bunch of crooks I am glad they didn’t put you in jail
@TheTravelingTogetherJournal5 жыл бұрын
I felt like the policeman was just doing his job and they just do things differently there. On the plus side, I wasn't hassled by the police this time nearly as much as I was during my first visit to Nicaragua 7 years ago.

The fact that your camera is rolling sweetie is what stops the corruption if it was never on and recording u would get the biggest multa ever and then offered a side deal not to deal with the whole ticket nonsense just pay them on the side
@TheTravelingTogetherJournal3 жыл бұрын
Has that worked for you? seems like an easy solution if you just need to have a dash camera to avoid all multa.
