Interesting that you would chose to visit Tiberias (and in July!) . Hope you got to visit some of the Christian sites on the north shore (Capernaum, etc..) of the sea of Galilee. The lake doesn't supply water to Israel any more, however, the water is piped from the lake to Jordan to help with their drought. Actually, the extra desalinated water Israel produces is now pumped into the sea of Galilee, where it is stored to keep the water level high enough to prevent ecological damage to the fish and water quality due to the high evaporation from the heat you enjoyed.
@y.shaked51522 жыл бұрын
Actually the Galilee hasn't been the main water source of Israel for several years now, since the desalinization plants came online. They've even been studying the possibility of reversing the flow to increase the water levels, but they want to make sure it won't have a detrimental effect on the ecosystem, since the desalinated water is not the same as the water that feeds into the lake naturally.

Everything is usually a couple of hour to 2.5h drive away at the most and the roads are great! I visited the Palestinian territories as well and went to Betlehem, Jerusalem is truly special, but I distinctly remember adorable Caesarea at the Mediterranean coast as being incredibly beautiful, the town is full of ancient Roman ruins in good condition among the palm trees, lots of greenery and white sand beaches, with an amazing national park right there! You have to visit the Sea of Galilee and the Dead Sea too! ✌️

The tomb he was showing you, he kept saying it was Rabbi Moshe Ben Maymon (or "Rambam"). He's better known in the west as Maimonides. He was a philosopher, a doctor, a scholar and interpreter of the bible. In the west he's mostly known for his philosophical work, as far as I know. Probably all Israelis know who he is, probably a good 80% don't know he's known as Maimonides in western culture. Maybe more.

Living in IL now, the taxi driver gave you a good (even cheap) deal for 700 ILS. But I wish he knew better English, to explain to you about all the places on the way... Also Tiberias is "no go zone" for most Israelis, it's too touristy, too neglected, and too religious...it's like a time travel to the 80s. Food wise, anyone in Israel "knows the one place" which has the best Shawarma in and Hummus (including me..😉). For Hummus I recommend Abu-Hassan (the old in Dolphin 🐬 Street), its in Jaffa not far from where you were in the previous video, it opens only till 14-15.

It's a shame Tiberius has been on the decline for years and years now, it keeps getting poorer and filled with lower status people - and it looks that way. You should visit the old town of Akko, you can visit the old underground halls and tunnels of the crusaders (which is lovely on a hot day), eat fantastic Arab style food for cheap in the market and go for a short refreshing shared boat ride around the city for just 20 shekels (with loud Arabic music, but it's part of the fun), and go up the ramparts to see where Napoleon fought. It's kinda like a much more condensed version of Jaffa which is easily traveled by foot (even with small kids). There's also my hometown of Haifa, a mixed-modern city on the Carmel mountain, so it's cooler and green and the sights are lovely, especially the magnificent Baha'i temple which dominates the northern front.
