I always travel with one of my Rolex's or Omega's and a G-Shock. Generally I always wear the nice watch but I have needed to put the watch in my pocket a few times when I'm in certain areas! A lot of airports I have been to do make you take the watch off so usually I will hide it away in my bag before they even tell me to do it. I don't want to be standing around lots of people and security making a scene and then everyone watches me having to take off a nice watch and put it in my bag!

They all have a place and purpose in my collection, however, they could be replaced/bought again easily should I need to.

Timex & Casio made the perfect travel watches lineup, no fuss & hassles. Keep a 3-watch roll, with a Casio Royale on wrist, and in the roll, an Ironman, and Duro on a leather strap. Swap out the Duro for a dressier one if a business meeting/conference is involved.

Airport security is a nightmare. Flew into NYC last year and had to take off my nice watch and put it in a plastic container with all my other valuables. This then traveled through an x-ray machine and then sat with several other containers while I got x-rayed. My boots had metal in them so I was taken aside and had to remove them and was searched. All the while, my $5000 watch was sitting in that plastic container while about half a dozen people of varying quality, walked by it. I was lucky. A rather bored looking lady was clearing my bag and I said, "What happens if someone steals something out of the containers?" Her answer was "Not my problem Sir, move on." I would have burned her ears if she wasn't in a position of authority at that time. I understand the need for security but surely they could have a better system?. Next time I'll take a Casio..

I grew up in Belgrade, in the 90's. War struck city, poverty and lots of criminal. During those years, it was common for elementary school kids like myself, to be robbed of their sneakers or other clothes, sometimes at knife or gun point. Now, Belgrade is one of the safest cities in Europe. So, I have a small, but quite valuable collection, with a few high end pieces, and to be honest, when I travel abroad, I wear a casio f-91w, with an exception of a seaside vacations, when I wear a frogman. I don't know, it might be an overreaction on my side, but I just don't feel safe, outside of my city (country). Maybe it is a kind of "PTSP" going back to my childhood, but I just can't help it.

I heard somewhere that when entering a country with your watches, you should declare your watches at customs to avoid being hit with a tax or duty when leaving the country or returning to the U.S. If that's not necessary, then what prevents me from going to, say London, buying a watch, and returning to the U.S. without declaring it and paying any import duty?
@FedericoTalksWatches4 жыл бұрын
Random screenings!
@jacobd20574 жыл бұрын
You should do this before leaving the US. You can register the serial numbers of your watches to prove you did not buy them abroad. If you can't prove you bought the watch in the US then you can be charge import taxes when returning. How likely is this to happen? Probably not very likely but better safe than sorry especially if you're traveling with many thousands of dollars of watches. www.cbp.gov/document/forms/form-4457-certificate-registration-personal-effects-taken-abroad

I travel about 300k miles a year and mostly to SE Asia. Granted I dont have anything better than a Tudor, but depending if I travel business or first depends on the watch I travel with. If I have to fly coach I go casio world time, but if business at least I go Oris Aquis, Longines hydroconquest, etc... I agree I always check anything around 1500 or more I check at hotel concierge those safes at the hotel even 5 stars are sketchy.. the concierge always gives you a itemized card by a international hotel so I feel safe. When going out if a nice restaurant I wear a nice watch, but just to kick around I always rock a casio g shock or worldtime. If I'm exploring never wear any watch that looks expensive even a skx.. Vietnam considers a skx a high end. Key is don't flaunt anything that has a high end value in a country in which your watch might be worth more than the yearly median income

I wear one watch, and put my second travel watch in a hard shell watch pouch in my carry-on bag. I usually only wear S/S Rolex sports watches. Out and about in countries where I do not want to be jumped by a mob, I wear long sleeves shirts, so I can hide the wrist. A NATO strap also makes a sports watch look cheap from a distance, and can be used as camouflage.

I travel a lot for work and play (>60% on the road) and believe in wearing my watches (Patek/RM) not every day, but regularly. I carry a sock with me and use the sock to go through airport security as well as to keep my watch in my pocket if/when I am in high traffic and or risky public areas. Get legitimate watch insurance, stay alert for "spotters" (who in bigger cities look for "marks"), and do not wear your expensive piece when/if you are unclear (aka - safety) of your route to/from your desired location.

Personally I don't like those soft watch rolls. They can squeeze and damage your watches, even when in a suitcase or carry-on bag. When I travel, I like to use a hard-shell G-Shock watch box to put in my luxury watches. And I would wrap my gold watch with a soft polishing cloth. ⌚✈🏔🏖🏜🏤
@biohayzer4 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. You can pick up a whole different number of single/double/triple hard shell travelling cases. Those rolls would only be good for watches with leather straps that lay completely flat but even at that there is still a fear they can get crushed🤷🏻♂️

I personally never travel with my expensive watches,way too big a risk. I only travel with two beater watches a Casio g shock and an orient bambino ,they cover me for all occasions casual and dressy . If I lose them no biggy I just replace them for my next trip.

Saw a video from Paris recently where they showed a CCTV footage of a customer walking in a salon and three robbers who might have followed him, took away his patek forcibly and ran away! It was horrible. I don’t usually travel with an expensive watch. An Apple watch is safer and better bet hence.

Thanks for the comment on Rolex, Fed. Rolex is low down on my list of dream watches. I'd rather get an Omega first. Rolex has done what DeBeers tried to do with diamonds: artificially high prices via an artificial shortage. With the advent of perfect synthetic diamonds, Debeers and other diamond companies are faltering. Covid-19 has not helped them. I hope that Rolex gets its comeuppance, for their arrogant attitude towards customers. If there is karma, Rolex might end up being the Langendorf Watch Company SA, of the 21st century.

In Italy I only wore my Gshock-cheapie. I ALMOST got robbed in Brendizie, almost, but I was faster.
