I traveled to Iraq as a tourist. In episode 1 of my new series I fly into Baghdad and hit the streets and markets to get a feel for the city. In this video I try some delicious Iraqi food, hit some famous (and infamous) historical sites, and give you my first impressions of the country. Tune in next Wednesday when I'll be heading to a football match between Iraq and UAE.

My first deployment was to Baghdad in 2005. Despite the low level insurgency still going on at the time (which would fluctuate up and down), I objectively enjoyed my time there working with the Iraqi people on the ground and getting to know a little of their culture, language and food. I remember being on the banks of the Euphrates and awestruck at how many civilizations came and went in that spot alone. I often said I wouldn't mind coming back in the future and be able to walk down the street as a just a civilian guest without my rifle and body armor. Can't wait to see more of this series Donnie.

It really is kinda weird sometimes how funny and lighthearted this content can seem, that you have to take a second to step back and really appreciate the fact that these people are so marginalized in the international scope of things.... So to have someone shine a light on their culture and expose people to what life is really like there vs what you've been told in the news... That's really awesome! This is human history being told as accurately as it's ever been told, I can't thank you enough for making this content! This is incredibly important, that we bridge the gaps between cultures and bring people together!
