Garúa is the "rain" that we get in Lima. The fog you are talking about is called neblina. One of the reasons for that besides the Humboldt current is Lima is where the Andes mountains get the closest to the coast.

Dont forget to use your sunblock even in cloudy days. Go to Lima in summer. The UV are very high in this part of the continent. The foggy is Close to coastal districts like Miraflores not in the whole city, each point has its own weather 😅

You forgot Monumental Callao unless you didn't go there. its very close to the center of Lima. Peru has so many things to do and see and they have some very very good foods.

I agree that I feel safe in Lima generally. I’m an older guy and I have visited Lima twice for about 1.5 months each time. However as my Spanish has improved and I started to read the paper and watch the news there are very bizarre stories. This morning Jan 16 2025 there were two separate incidents where hand grenades were thrown at businesses that hadn’t paid their extortion fees. Last year bus drivers went on strike because of the threats from organized crime. Two years back people may remember the protest that closed the trains in and out of Macchu Picchu. A couple month back another two pieces of the cliff fell off at the Larcomar Mall. This is typical due seismic activity etc. Hamd guns are an issue with gangs etc. this is also typical of other cities. Phone snatching a are common. New Year’s Eve an entire bus was robbed at gun point as the bus was returning from fireworks festivities. Just be aware if you are not a native speaker you will not hear these stories. As for me I love the people and the food and I will return. Last time I actually bought a bicycle on Marketplace and explored more thoroughly.

IN LIMA THERE ARE MANY DISTRICTS VERY SAFE AND BEAUTIFUL MIRAFLORES, SAN ISIDRO, BARRANCO, SURCO, LA PLANICIE, CASUARINAS, MIRAFLORES IS MY DISTRICT AND I LOVE MY MIRAFLORES.

IN LIMA WE DO NOT HAVE EXTREME WEATHER , YOU CAN PRACTICE SEA ACTIVITIES SURFING, ETC. AND YOU CAN GO OUT AND ENJOY THE CITY .

miraflores is the tourist district, san isidro is the rich district... tourist district has similar prices to the rich district so you are better off in san isidro if you are a tourist. Good districts with insanely lower pricepoints... lince, magdalena del mar. Barranco is NOT a safe district by any means. Barranco is divided in 3 zones, touristic, high income residential (both west side of "the avenue") and the low income residential, that borders with chorrillos... which is not safe for someone who isnt from the area. Is not a dangerous zone, but depending on the time are zone you should be thinking about having ur phone out or not.

IN LIMA YOU CAN GET ALL KIND OF RATES THE LOWEST AND THE MOST EXPENSIVE , YOU CAN EAT DELICIOUS MEALS IN CHEAP RESTAURANTS FOR 4 USD DOLLARS AND IN EXPENSIVE RESTAURANTS FOR 20 USD DOLLARS OR MORE.

LIMA WAS FOUNDED IN 1535 BY FRANCISCO PIZARRO AND YOU CAN FIND A LOT OF HISTORY, BEST GASTRONOMY ALL OVER THE WORLD, MANY FREE TIME ACTIVITIES , SURFING ALL YEAR, ETC.

Sorry again. Watching the Lima news again this morning and be aware that Dengue Fever a mosquito borne disease is now climbing...it’s seasonal… According to news in Lima area 2500 cases in the past week reported. Makes you quite sick doesn’t usually kill you. Personally I would still go just because it is a fun place to be.
