Actually, I agree too. Lima like in any big city people should be aware of their surroundings but its a safe country. Coffee: most people like it with milk while others like leche con cafe (no water but milk with coffee) and they have it at home (it’s essential for all Peruvians). We also have tea time from 4-6 but I think some people don’t do it anymore. That was my favorite time of the day when I lived in Peru and my mom would get ready for tea time 🫖, the cookies, pastries, sandwiches. And dinner started at 8. You forgot that people are friendly towards foreigners and will help you if you ask 😂

I can't find fresh dairy milk in any grocery store. I had read that Peruvians and Chileans like UHT (ultra high heat treated) milk, which is that Frankensteinfood that is very unhealthy. Do they lack refrigeration at their homes?

@@Reardon_Explores We finished our trip and headed to Colombia this week. This March and April was by far unseasonably the warmest on record in past 50 years for N. Peru according to data for Lambayeque from WeatherSpark. A very strange climate year. Was still cool enough in the highlands though. Also there were more mosquitoes than I expected, which would have not been a problem except the AirBnB we were staying didn't adequately keep them outside, which seems to be the case (probably only during summer) for many accommodations other than the most upscale condos and the one super modern hotel in Chiclayo. There is a very modern, nice, open air mall in Chiclayo. OTOH, was much sunnier than typical for summer up north. There's no drainage/sewage system in the satellite cities, thus it's kinda of a nasty cesspool when it rains. The natural beauty of Peru is definitely in the mountains. The locally grown blueberries are scrumptious. Frankly neither I nor my Filipina fiancee were impressed with Peruvian cuisine. The cerviche is of course delicious (although the Filipino version named kinilaw is IMO superior) but the rest of the everything food wise is either way overpriced or not that good comparing to our experience in Thailand and the Philippines. Also most neighborhood (i.e. not downtown) restaurants close at 5pm. Asia is just a heck of a lot better than Latin America thus far in terms of cheap labor, affordability, modern accommodations, availability of different vegetables. We were shocked that no sayote, no watercress, no Yardlong (Chinese long) beans, no okra, etc.. Peruvians eat far too much carbs (e.g. potatoes). Their roasted chicken is dry not not succulent like in Philippines, their fried chicken is not on par, their pizza is ridiculously overpriced, and hamburgers were miserable. Even their chicken soup has rice in it, so you are forced to eat more carbs. I am trying to llimit carbs to 50g per day because of my metabolic syndrome and prediabetes liver/endocrine dysfunction. The rumps on some of these women here I can understand they need to feed that fat with carbs, lol. We were very disappointed with the food, and I noticed another U.S. female vlogger mentioned this and that Mexican food is much superior and I must concur. Mexican food is to die for. OTOH, we did have a bit better success with food in the small stalls in the wet, vegetable and fruit markets. Also we did eat a scrumptious pork menudo near Olmos and open fire grilled freshly slaughtered pork {Lechon) heading into Cajamarca. I guess I would conclude that Peru is variegated (varied). I would like to experience it in the winter when it is cooler or spend more time exploring the highlands.
@Anonymint-vj7bt
@Anonymint-vj7bt Жыл бұрын
@@Reardon_Explores I should have written 'net carbs', i.e. not including insoluble and soluble fiber carbs because obviously vegetables have carbs but not net carbs. It is the net carbs which are to be avoided in order to remain in ketosis more often for superior mental function and health. Try it. Also even for example the empanadas were horrible for us. They either had insufficient meat inside or they put these purple things inside that look like grapes, maybe they are olives, I am not sure, but they taste absolutely horrible for us. Also no ketchup most of the time. Very weird condiments that did not appeal to our palate. Etc. Just not compatible with the Peruvian cuisine, except the small stalls have some delicious food with hot picante more similar to what we like.
@pamelabonita
@pamelabonita Жыл бұрын
Lima have the best local food , is number 3 compared with other cities around the world , taste Atlas said that, Philippines food is not as good as Peruvian food , I visited Philippines and is not as good , Thai food is in a good lever better than Philippines.
@Anonymint-vj7bt
@Anonymint-vj7bt Жыл бұрын
@@pamelabonita I brought my southern Philippines Filipina to Peru and that is not what she said. And I agree. Her cooking blows away the crap food in Peru. Latin Americans eat far too much carbs. Their roasted chicken is dry and lacks tastes. Their soups have rice in it,yuk. No YardLong Chinese string beans in all of Latin America. Even in Medellin we can not find bamboo shoots in coconut milk, no green papaya in coconut milk, can not even find a fresh young coconut to drink the natural water from. I could go on and on (for example curries, dried fish, shrimp paste, etc) but no damn way that Latin American food can compete with the authentic southern Philippines cooking. Unfortunately you will not find this cooking in all Manila which is in the North. The southern Filipino tuna kinilaw is even superior to ceviche. I hated the Peruvian food and I wanted to leave asap. Also authentic Philippines food is superior to Thai, actually. The one thing I find lacking from Filipino food are salads such as avocado, which is not in the Filipino palate (they hate the taste).

Also always choose the fancier bus companies, never the cheaper ones in the city center, the price difference is not worth it compared to the comfort and security of the more expensive companies.

It depends! Like you can always buy cheap stuff from Ross, TJ Maxx, Marshalls types of stores in the US that you can't find elsewhere outside of US. Hi! thank you for the video, I was wondering if Uber is safe to travel from Airport to Miraflores? Read somewhere that it is banned at the airport? are there other taxi services that are safe?

It is safe! I took it to and from. The law might have changed but they still operate. Uber is all over the city.

@@Reardon_Explores in Chiclayo we are paying S/5 or S/6 for taxis (~$1.50). Just hail then along the road. No safety issues, unlike from the Lima airport. Uber probably not available in this smaller city. The motorcycle tuktuks are only S/3.

Did they require a booster shot and did you have to fill out any contact tracing forms prior to flying into Peru? Leaving in 8 days!!
