It's a good job that you made Shinishi. You are strong to walk in this snow. I've bin too scared about it because of the anixity i have to look at every step I take Not to fall. You did it verry good. 👍🏼🥰

Sorry that you fell on the ice Shinishi. The ice never gives so it is always painful. Now you know why I never wanted to be a world famous ice skater.

I'd recommend getting "Yak Tracs" or similar, slip on traction devices that have studs or wire. They are easy to take on and off. Not expensive.

I love in Minneapolis United States and this is what our winters are like. When you walk on snow and ice your back and muscles can get very sore and stiff.

My wife and I visited the town of Otaru in March 2015. It was a very pleasant stay in this lovely, former fishing town and famous for it's glass industry. We especially enjoyed the glass lanterns at Otaru station. Quite unique for Japan. I hope that Japan will open it's borders for tourism again as soon as possible. I am planning to take a 40-hour ferry ride from Nagoya to Hokkaido next time I visit Japan. Thanks for the video!

Thank you for this video! I visited Sapporo 13 years ago in the dead of winter and it was soooooo difficult/tiring to walk in the snow. I chuckled when you said, "focus on the ground."

It's probably too late to tell you now, but looking down while walking changes your balance so you're more likely to fall. If you can stand up straight, look straight ahead and keep your feet directly under your body (penguin style), balance is much better on slippery surfaces or even going down stairs. Not tensing up helps too, but maybe is too much to ask ☺️ Hope this helps for next time!

You sound breathless walking and talking, which dovetails on your comment of walking a lot in Japan when travelling. That explains how trim you both are with all your showcasing of lovely meals and travel. I so enjoy you candid and delightful walks and talks and expose of areas to visit. I had to add so glad you are refreshed. That you stayed safe, and that Satoshi made it home ok. Yes, i could see you needed rest. God bless and keep you both safe. Sorry for your fall.

I don't mind the snow and the slushy ground because at least it's in a different country which is Japan , that makes a lot of difference . I'll just go and visit all the nice stores and enjoy the views , the trip , and the Japanese cuisine . Besides , the ocean is beautiful ! Where I am , it snows even in the start of summer which is weird and it's the first time that ever happened here . The first part of summer this year is mixed with mild , cold , lots of snow which came unwantedly by everyone and is really crazy . Don't know what to wear anymore .Our summer where I am will be cut short like the last few years , and this year , shorter which is very sad for me because summer is my favourite season and weather of all .

You are right about the walking. We probably walk 2-4 miles a day when we visited - except when we drove around with a guide to go birdwatching. My blood sugar was so good! Even eating rice or noodles at every meal.

I love the videos you make; I’ve never been to Japan. Seeing the country through your videos really helps! I’m a novelist & have a publisher in Japan & one in S. Korea who are interested in translating one of my published novels! So, I’m really excited about doing the book tour when that finally gets to happen. Maybe I can buy you & Satoshi tea & coffee! I’m partial to coffee myself. Be safe & don’t fall again!

Shinichi, thanks for another nice video!! I've been looking at a way to help prevent slipping on the ice as we want to go to Sapporo next winter. I saw metal slip on spikes call "Crampions". They are either metal or hard rubber spikes/chains that slip on over your shoes. They are pretty cheap starting at 15 bucks. Anyway glad you guys had a fun trip!!

I live in Yokohama, the second largest city in Japan after Tokyo. Yokohama's population is more than 3.7 millions. Osaka(2.7 mil) is the third ,Nagoya(2.3mil) is the fourth, and Sapporo(1.9mil) is the fifth. Many Japanese tend to forget to include Yokohama in order of the city population because Yokohama is located next to Tokyo and is most likely to be taken part of Tokyo megacity area.

I would have used the luggage delivery service. I use that during all my trips in Japan. It is super efficient and convenient. Saves lugging the suitcase around public transport and finding lockers while waiting till check in time. More often than not your luggage is waiting for you at the hotel when you arrive to check in.

Just for future reference, when you want to get shots of the beautiful views outside, you need to turn off the lights in the hotel room to remove the reflections in the glass, then the outside will be easier to see. 👍😍🇦🇺
