TRAVELING TO TARTU, ESTONIA!

After traveling from Riga, Latvia to Tartu, Estonia, we spent the day exploring Tartu's charming city center! We have to be honest that we weren't really sure if there would be much to do, but we ended up falling in love with this hidden gem.
There are so many wonderful things to do in Tartu--from the riverwalk, to the main square and incredible restaurants. We especially loved the architecture in Tartu. Tartu will be the European Capital of Culture in 2024 so make sure you visit this hidden gem before it becomes the next big tourism hot spot :)

I miss Tartu so much. I lived there during summer last year, the most wonderful experience. I wish I could go back, it still feels like home just seeing all the footage. I used to walk along that bridge in the first shot every day 💖

I visited Tartu 2 weeks ago. I did not expect much, but oh my - I was blown away! It looks like it has developed quite a lot in the last few years, and you can see that many of the older wooden buildings are being rejuvenated. New apartment blocks in Karlova area are all designed to resemble the old buildings, yet are very modern. In all honesty, I enjoyed Tartu more than Tallinn - it just feels like such as nice place to live. Tallinn to me felt a bit like an open air museum with a city attached to it, but Tartu is more integrated.

You were just unlucky with the train! I did the same trip last August (2020) and the Riga train stops literally 3 steps away from the Estonian train to Tartu (Tallinn)... you can't miss it even if the connection was just 1 min :) Also a local friend told me that the 2 trains are now synchronized so if the Latvian one arrives a bit late the Estonian waits for you! Otherwise Tartu is REALLY beautiful and I was lucky to discover it almost by chance - thank you for reminding me with your video!

My guess… the reason the “paint” seems to fade away instead of pealing is because the exterior siding in this video was a wood similar to cedar. The wood was never painted….. but stained. Stain fades evenly and smoothly. Awesome video!

I think that more Videos like these are NEEDED to show the Beauty of TARTU ! Some FILM ME AT TARTU CLUB - should be founded - to tell what to film and how to get there ! Who wants to see something - that You can see in EVERY TOWN ? Why TARTU IS DIFFERENT !

Trains are bound to wait as they are continuation of the route, so if anyone feels scared of 6 min gap, don't be. It is just estimation of time for people to switch from 1 train to another. However, for some reason it seems line was closed from Valmiera to Estonia. Bus transport from Riga to Valka/Valga is very frequent as well as Riga-Tartu. Trains on the other hand go to Estonia only 2 times a day. Thats for other travelers to take in consideration. Also Latvian trains suck, because evry time we have ordered new ones, some shady business happens and we have to start over the whole process again. We finally got new stock comming soon after Stadler train saga ended with cheaper Skoda trains.

Last time I used Latvian railway service (Riga - Kegums :) ) about 15 years ago it didn't really "suck". I have no idea about the current situation. Everything was in the range of tolerance :)

I have lived there for five months, I was there in winter, it was a horrible weather! however, the city is very well organized, but it looks like a russian. I think in summer better. What I enjoyed is the ferry, it completely has different vibes, but it was interesting to be there.

I was born in Tartu (i still go there in school holidays to visit my dad and grandma) and i literally love that city! It’s not really crowded and it’s just a very nice city! :) I’m maybe even moving there back cause my mum wants to and overall i just love Tartu wayy more much than Tallinn (The capital of Estonia) yea Tallinn is a great city to visit sometimes too but for me it’s just too much
