Best and Worst Thermal Spas - Cruise Tips For Travellers

From heated loungers to saunas and salt rooms thermal spas on a cruise ship have a lot to offer. Today our cruise tips for travellers is going to focus on the thermal suite not the spa services like massages. The thermal spa costs extra but is open for all guests across all cabin categories to enjoy some extra relaxation.
One of our cruise tips for first timers is to check out the spa on the first day of your cruise. They will usually tour you around telling you about services and take you through the thermal suite. They are often near the bottom of the ship and if you didn't go looking you might miss it. We go through 6 cruise lines and provide cruise tips for each one. We go through the pros and cons of each so you can decide if you want to spend money on their thermal spa.
Some of the common features in a cruise thermal spa is a sauna, steam room, salt room, and hot tubs. Some cruise lines bring in unique features like Celebrity Cruise ship which has Aqua Class and others keep it very minimalist like on the Wonder of the seas cruise ship. Specifically when it comes to booking days at the spa our cruise tips and tricks is to book it on a port day. If you know there is a port you won't be spending a lot of time at they are much quieter than during sea days. We really noticed this at Virgin Voyages thermal suite as they sell passes, packages and it can get very busy even with people booking a 3 hour window. Something unique about Celebrity Cruises thermal spa was the trendy theming with fun seats, we were disappointed on the Celebrity Edge there were not hot tubs or pools but they have added them in on the Celebrity Beyond.

We just did the NCL joy brand new thermal suite. It was really nice and very big. Had the hot stone loungers, salt room, sauna, steam room, hot tub, cold plunge, ice room, various showers and meditation loungers. Nice views as well.

I have been on some great thermal spas on Carnival and almost nonexistent thermal spas on Royal Caribbean.

For me, Viking and NCL have the best thermal spas. Viking has a cold plunge while NCL has a neck/shoulder massage in their thermal pool.

Thank you for the video! While I didn’t enjoy NCL as much as RCCL, I LOVED their thermal spa on the Escape. I’ll cruise Virgin next but will skip the spa experience. Hope they make changes to their scheduling system!

We love the Breakaway Class of Thermal Suite. We recently sailed on the NCL Jade, and looked the Thermal Suite for the 9 Day cruise. We couldn't believe it...the thermal pool was not operating, and never did the entire cruise! I was beyond livid, as they kept saying that it would be repaired. After a lot of following up with guest services and complaining, we did get a complete refund for $450 for a future cruise credit. I will never sale the Jewel class again. The only good thing was that there were two pools on the Lido deck.

After experiencing the Thermal Suite on Norwegian, I will never cruise without one again! FYI, Norwegian is doing away with the Spa Cabins… you have to purchase the Thermal Suite AFTER you board, so no guarantee. Princess allows you to purchase when booking!

NCL does have some nice thermal spas. It’s a nice little upgrade without paying for the Haven. It’s too bad you can’t purchase the passes before sailing.

Yes the NCL policy change is so upsetting to us as we always booked spa rooms and now it's a free for all. We booked a cruise that already is sold out of them and now we are looking to cancel it just for that reason.

Thanks for this content, I've been looking for info about Thermal Spas , where going on Celebrity Ascent and from what I'm seeing Ya , no Thermal Hot Tub , only water is the showers. the cost I believe is about $220 week or someone posted $69 per day , pretty pricey for no hot tub. I wish you had mentioned all the prices, I'll check out your other video on that subject, Thanks.

The spa on Virgin Scarlett Lady was disappointing. 2 feet of water in both jacuzzi and cold plunges limited to one person at a time. It was also hard to get in and out of.🤣

MSC has the best thermal spas and they are not expensive for the full pass. Aside from the Divina all of them have a therapy pool. Carnival seems to have some good ones on there ship too. I've found Royal doesn't really do thermal areas at all its just saunas.

I bought thermal spa passes on Carnival Panorama and it was always so crowded we couldn't use them, complete waste of money. Scheduling time slots would fix that. I'll never buy one again.
