In fact his brand of practice is about telling the patient the things that the patient wants to hear. He may have a high proportion of middle east patients I'm guessing . The statistics are that there is a higher level of mental illness among this ethnic group than for other ethnicities and perhaps he's based in a middle east quarter of Vancouver and he knows what he's gotta say to stay physically healthy .

That dude has been very inaccurate throughout this video and would not be able to convince any historian. I will not point out everything because that would take too much time, but a few things: - He fails to mention how European Jews mass migrated under British force once they took over. - If you are a Jew born in Europe, you do not have a claim to Israel/Palestine. If you are a Jew born in Europe, you are native to europe. You can not just claim your Jewish ancestry and disregard your European ancestry. Every human has ancestry in different places, you can not just choose the one that you just like. Especially if you have not lived in a certain place for 2000 years. I couldn't listen to Mate anymore either after he publicly villified every vaccinologist, doctor and scientist who had legitimate concerns about the efficacy of the experiemental covid vaccine. He call them 'psychologically disturbed anti-vaxxers' completely ignoring the fact that all of them had taken every single vaccine ever required by their profession; some of them even created vaccines for a living for cripes sake! After his stance on Israel I consider him a fraud and am so glad I tuned him out during covid. As an Asian who knows nothing about the crisis before October 7, I have learned from various sources about it. Your channel gives me many reasonable arguments for the matter. Thank you for the good work! I was so disappointed at Gabor Mate's talk about his "one-side favor". As an outsider, I see the Gaza crisis as an ongoing war between two national movements in which one side is winning and never stops developing itself, also has shown its eagerness to deal with the conflicts a number of times, and the other side has been loosing in the war over and over again, no matter how many times it uses dirty tricks or plays the victim card and together with time, it has become a sore loser! Israel is winning with more fair deals. What annoys me is the left of the West is doing more harm than good to the order of the world, in which democracy is still a better option, although it needs a lot of amendments and it is possible to be fixed, not like those like my home country. The stupidity of the left is giving the evil world more chance to win! If only they all go and try to live in one of those countries, ... but I start to think even that would not change their blind mind.

War is terrible, we all know. Whatever we say about those victim individuals will never be enough for the lost or the trauma have been done to them. My concern in a bigger picture is the attitude of the left in Western countries towards this crisis. here is the problem. the united nations has a billion dollar budget for palestinian relief. palestine has gotten 17 billion in relief money over 2 decades but hamas leaders line their own pockets instead of upgrade their water and electricity production. gaza gets 80 percent water from underground. 7 percent from desalination plants. 13 percent from israel pipes. when israel declared war there was no longer an obligation to help an enemy nation. something hamas and palestinians should have considered before the october 7 massacre.

This is from The Tim Ferriss Show, When he was one, Maté's mother put him in the care of a stranger for over five weeks in order to save his life. Upon their reunion, the infant Maté was so hurt that he avoided looking at his mother for several days. He claims this trauma of "abandonment, rage, and despair" continues to manifest in his adult life, leading to similar altercations when he perceives a threat of abandonment, especially from his wife. I’m a licensed mental health therapist and I have a couple of his books and have done a training with him. I’ve also watched The Wisdom of Trauma movie he produced & starred in a few years ago. He has some excellent things to say about trauma from a clinical perspective, but I don’t agree with him on his stance on ADHD at all. Also, he has an inflated ego that was obvious in the training I did with him, as well as some of the videos I’ve seen of him. He’s clearly out of his wheelhouse here by using his status to imply that he’s some expert on this rather than someone with an opinion that’s not based on facts. This is just my opinion.

I have met Gabor Mate earlier this year in Budapest and I like what he had to say, however as soon as his first video came out after Oct 7th I noticed that he is using his expertise in trauma to invalidate Jewish and Israeli trauma at every chance. I'm so glad you made this video. My field is psychotherapy and Mate's work has been a part of my teachings and an inspirational figure in that field, but I am deeply disappointed in his rhetoric regarding Israel/Palestine. His ignorance, lack of compassion and empathy for what Israelis have to endure has been eye-opening. I'm not even talking about what they went through on October 7th and continue to go through. I'm talking about several times every year having to run from missiles from their terrorist neighbours, having to endure blatant anti-semitism and misplaced blame being directed at them and having to live in fear of internal terrorist attacks. When I visited Jerusalem a 19 year old IDF soldier was stabbed and killed in a terrorist attack and another time a friend visited she had to leave Israel early due to missile attacks. They should not have to put up with these things and because they do, it is an obligation for anyone with some humanity to have consideration and compassion for them. To see a trauma specialist being unable to extend those things towards Israelis is heartbreaking and unacceptable. He can extend these things to Palestinians but not Israelis it seems. He chooses to be self-righteous in his ignorance and personal ethics in the cheapest way possible now that he has a platform moment. I expected so much better from him.

Hello from Canada. I'm familiar with Mate's work as I was a mental health counsellor for over 25 years and a lot of my work centred around helping individuals and groups (some of them First Nations people) move on from their experiences of violence and trauma. In fact, Mate is not so well regarded by others in this field. His specialty may be currying favour with notables to help them embrace victim-hood so they can remain stuck and continue therapy with him. That he recorded a session he had with Prince Harry and made it public is one glaring example of what a good therapist never does. As shown in the interview with Piers Morgan, Mate adopts a stance of deflection and bafflegab, speaking about things that have nothing to do with the subject or question at hand. That he keeps coming back to himself over and over is interesting to say the least. He claims to be a Holocaust survivor and while his grandparents were killed in Auschwitz, Mate was only 5 months old at the time. He was never in a concentration camp. His mother had to give over his care to someone else for 5 weeks when he was one year old in 1945 and he claims this has led to fears of abandonment, rage and despair. Yet how many others who actually were held in the camps bravely moved forward with their lives; as for example the many European Jews who created the democratic state of Israel.

Here's an interesting double standard in his statements that I think you missed: He says he's no longer a zionist because he learned about massacres that supposedly took place when Israel was founded. He also is still a Canadian, who knows about the abuse of the indigenous people of North America by the European settlers, but still is perfectly OK with having Canada as a country, and himself as its citizen. The idea that Israel, and only Israel, should cease to exist or be brutally punished because it supposedly has some skeletons in its closest, while practically every other country on earth has its "fair" share of brutality and atrocities in its history but still get to hold on to their sovereignty, nationality, security... this is the very essence of hypocrisy and double standards.

I’ve seen it in his books - one quote I read was “most people ask why the addiction - when we should ask why the pain” … which is a clear way of shifting blame. Jews were traumatized in 1945, and started building a country. They were attacked in 1948 to try wipe them out … they were attacked in 1967 by 4 Arab countries again, then again in 1973 by 6 Arab countries.

Thank you for the great video. I was so triggered by the background that was behind Gabor Mate in his interview with Piers Morgan as Metro Vancouver has been my home since moving here from Winnipeg in 1976. After a visit to Temple Mount, Yerushalayim, Israel, I went to the closest barbershop (Adib's Cut, 1542 Johnston Road, White Rock, BC, Canada) for a haircut, wearing a kippah with a large blue Star of David on it under a hat. I entered Adib's Cut, asked for a haircut, took my hat off to reveal the kippah and was told to "go to the bus stop" and was refused service. The next day I returned to the sidewalk outside of Adib's Cut and protested loudly but peacefully, after which an employee came out and asaulted me, which I responded by damaging their front door. The police came and arrested me and I gave statements about the initial religious discrimination and assault, to which no action was taken by the police. I have been protesting on the sidewalk outside of Adib's Cut twice a day, singing Hatikva, Am Yisrael Chai, and Shema Israel. A few weeks ago an employee exited and said, "we are going to Palestine", and on another occasion said, "it's all going to be Palestine whether you like it or not, PALESTINE!" But the most disturbing incident happened on December 2, 2023, when a customer came out as I was singing Hatikva, came within five centimetres of my face and screamed, "F^^k you and F^^k Israel! You're a baby killer!" repeatedly. As he was screaming, he spat on me and it landed in my mouth. I have made multiple reports about these incidents to the BC Hate Crimes Unit of the RCMP, BC Human Rights Tribunal, and the local City Council, Mayor, and members of the Provincial Legislature and Federal Parliament to no avail. Today, I will go to the local White Rock RCMP detachment to make a formal report about the latest spitting assault, as well as the religious discrimination and assault by the employee of Adib's Cut. I honestly don't have ANY hope that action will be taken but will make the report nevertheless. I am a Korean-Canadian convert to Judaism to be formalized soon. I was unaware of the halachic prohibition of wearing a kippah prior to formally being converted and will only wear a kippah after the conversion has been completed. Perhaps if I were ethnically Jewish, Adib's Cut would be out of business by now. Such is the plight of converts, especially those that have yet to convert formally. I will continue to sing Hatikva, Am Yisrael Chai, and Shema Israel outside of Adib's Cut twice a day until justice is served. The police have been called to arrest me for "harrassment" on several occasions, but by the time they come, I am already walking many blocks away. I pray to HaShem that justice comes before some crazy jihadist decides to take me out for being a zealous zionist follower of HaShem. Thank you again for your excellent video. look i can not deny that there is hatred for Jews in the arab world, that is true, it is equally true though that Israelis actually hate Arabs as well. Israelis are as extreme as Arabs and they are at the end the occupiers, they still occupy the west bank and the golan heights since 1967 and force their populations to live in apartheid. they still decline a 2 state solution that would actually bring some kind of solution. To be honest, you would do exactly what Palestinians are doing if you were in their shoes. you just never put yourself in their shoes. Other Arab countries do not take Palestinians because they will never be allowed to come back. Palestinians of 1948 still live in Syria, Jordan and Lebanon to this very day and never came back.

Thanks for another great video. My grandmother was a holocaust survivor. She was 15 when the holocaust started (Gabor was under the age of two when it ended). She came to the UK on the Kinder Transport along with her brother. All of her cousins, aunts and uncles were killed in concentration camps. The holocaust had an enormous impact on her in far too many ways to go into here, but while it was life-defining, she never once referred to herself as a holocaust survivor. It certainly wasn't something she felt good about or that she considered to give her some sort of edge. I completely agree with you on identity politics, it doesn't sit well.

When I saw the footage of the pro-Palestine protests in Liverpool Street I could not believe what I was seeing. Absolutely no consideration or empathy for the Kindertransport children and why we have a memorial there. I live in the North and I find it deeply upsetting what has been happening in the Capital. I've heard stories from Israelis whom their parents survived the holocaust , some of them told that their parents would wake up screaming from nightmares, or that they would get mad if they threw food away , also some would not answer the door sometimes if the knocks were too loud because they would think it's the Gestapo coming to them even thought it was decades after and they were already here in israel , my own grandfather escaped germany before the holocaust due to laws discriminating jews starting to be enforced and his owned a building and his mother didn't want him to be arrested so she decided they would need to leave germany (smart woman) they found some smugglers and payed them so they moved to argentina where he met my grandmother and they later came to israel the holocaust have traumatized so many people , and so did the progrom on october 7th I myself could barley sleep for a week without getting up all sweaty , Im better not but there are still moments that are uneasy . and there are people who had to deal with alot more than just watching some of the horrific videos as myself (which I'm trying to avoid , or minimize) I have a family member who were in the nova festival and managed to escape with some of her friends (some were seperated and she found out they were murdered later ) it's extremly painful to see jews who are ignoring it or justify it when it's muslims I have no expectations from them and I does enrage me and it's also pretty disappointing when it's westerns who are gulibles and ignorant but when they are jews ( or some very small minority of isralies who try to stay "neutral") then it's hit on another level , and they are also seem really dumb in my opinion

Thanks so much for your channel, I found you since the attack on Isreal. Am thankful for your analysis of Gabor’s interview; his summation of the situation did NOT sit with me at all. I’m Canadian, non-Jew, and have held Gabor’s trauma and attachment work in high esteem for years. I’ve attended countless of his events, said nothing but positive things about him. However, I’m so disappointed in him right now for reasons you state. My stomach turned as I listened to him on Peirs Morgan’s show, even though his voice was calm and compassionate sounding I had a visceral reaction . As a Jewish lady who escaped communism in Romania and whose parents are holocaust survivors I have this to say about Gabor. I’ve read his book “scattered minds” due to my own trauma which stems from the generational war trauma, and have casualty of war status in Australia. Whilst I found his book highly informative, several years ago, I have since discovered that his fame catapulted his ego into overdrive. He so badly wanted to get a Nobel prize for his theory that ADHD isn’t a real diagnosis and that PTSD is at the heart of the neurological problems, not ADHD. Even though he himself apparently suffers from ADHD. The medical community doesn’t take him seriously and that upsets his fragile sense of importance. Whilst there are overlaps between ADHD and PTSD in psychiatry, it still remains that ADHD is in fact a neurological disorder that can be helped with the right treatment/medication. He is insisting that ADHD is not an inherited disorder, but is a symptom of complex trauma. Psychiatry proves his thesis is erroneous and dangerous through extensive studies that show hundreds of thousands proven cases where NO trauma took place in individuals who suffer from ADHD. And that the right medication can alleviate much of the symptoms of this focus disorder; Making suffers be productive members of society as opposed to struggling with daily functioning as they did before medication was available. Thank God for science. Fast forward to today, and Gabor is making himself relevant by cashing into the atrocity of Oct 7, whilst at the same time sticking his proverbial middle finger at the Jews for not taking him seriously. I lost respect for him well before Oct 7, when he told his story on Joe Roghan about going to an Ayawasca retreat and having a shaman cleanse him of his trauma. So in other words, he is against regulated scientifically researched medication that helps millions but is happy to promote the use of illegal substances that can do some real harm. Especially the type of “shamans” (more like sham men) con artists =shame men. And don’t forget Gabor is just a general practitioner doctor, not a psychiatrist, nor a psychologist. He doesn’t care about the “underdogs” at all. He just sides with “them” for clout, significance and sticking it to the (Jewish) man in his perpetual tantrum. Some say he’s not even really of Jewish descent. That he’s just an agent provocateur. I don’t know if there’s any truth to that suspicion but what I am certain of, is that he exhibits pathological ani-social behaviour. What a disgrace!

I live in Vancouver, and I used to have a lot of respect for Gabor Mate based on his work with addicts here. I am not Jewish, but I am a supporter of the right for Israel to exist, and I have been disgusted to see the blatant hatred that has been on display in our streets these last 50+ days. I have also been disappointed, but not surprised that our government at all levels have not responded to what are obviously hate crimes in any type of meaningful way. There was a protest outside of a Jewish elementary school in my sister's neighbourhood, and she was outraged, she even sent the school a card just to encourage them that they were not alone. For my part, I am ex-Cdn military, and I am not a small man by any measure. I walk around with an Israeli flag patch on my sleeve of my jacket (which was actually made by the Israeli company Agilite) and it's been no surprise to me that no one has called me out for it yet. These "protestors"/anti-Semites' are only looking for people they can bully or intimidate, I guess I don't fit that description to them. The IDF needs to continue doing what they are doing, targeting and destroying H@mas, once that mission has been completed rebuilding and restructuring can begin in Gaza, and once there's no images of Israel actively defending itself are not being streamed 24/7 most of the western "support" for Gaza will dissipate as they bored individuals move on to the next "cause" for them to get angry about.

Thank you so much for touching this subject called Gabor Mate. This was really intriguing for me for sometime now. Some things I understood about him even before the 7.10.23. He once told about himself when he was young, experiencing judgement as a Jew being an inferior race, he was ashamed he was a Jew. I still think today he has a problem being a Jew. As you mentioned in his way of parroting his opinions without checking the facts he tries to prove something about being a Jew. Beside the people who are in the world of therapy and working with trauma in the USA and Canada are mostly leftists and only finish their argument with: “but what about the children that are bombed by the Israeli army” even though there are still babies in captivity of Hamas, who does not allow the Red Cross to check on them, no body bother to criticise that.
