I'm 84 years old, and traveled the world when I was your age, but that was before the nomad era, when you had to take a tour or a cruise, and that set the itinerary. Your videos mean so much to me because I can vicariously travel the same area I traveled, but see what can't be seen on a tour or a cruise. Thanks for doing those hikes. They add so much to the video because the real beaty is on the trials.

We traveled to Alaska from Minnesota in 2023 too. We were about 6 days behind you on the Alaska Hwy. We stayed at some of the same campgrounds, but learned of some great boondocking places watching your videos. We plan on returning to Alaska and spending more time there in 2025. You have showed us some great things that we missed the last trip. Thank You!

Hi Robert. It is good to watch this video where we spent the summer. You portrayed the Denali area very accurately. There was a lot wildlife in the area. You're making me relive the same awesome views you showed in the video. It was good to see you and wife at the Horseshoe Lake trail and also at Rainbow Village. I am looking forward to seeing the future videos of the areas we didn't visit. Keep up the good work.

If it's Sunday, it must be time for a new Traveling Robert episode. I don't think I'll ever make it to Denali, so it's nice to experience it through your lens. It's odd that the bus driver had the McKinley story wrong--you'd think someone would have called him on his mistake at some point. I have to smile seeing those carved bears in front of the souvenir shops--those things look exactly the same in every tourist town. As far as "discouraging" visitation, I think staffing levels are a major factor--there simply aren't enough rangers to go around. Not to mention maintenance issues--keeping just the existing roads and facilities in decent repair is more than a full time job. Besides I would argue fewer people out there makes for a better experience. In a way I think Ed Abbey had it right 50 years ago when he decried "industrial tourism" -- we're seeing the result of that now. No easy answers, that's for sure. By the way, it's good to see that you remembered your hiking shoes🙂 Happy trails!

Hello Traveling Robert, this was an AMAZING video exploring Denali National Park in Alaska. I really enjoyed the bus ride into Denali and the ABSOLUTELY AMAZING Views on the loop trails following the rivers. This was OUTSTANDING Robert! Sorry that I missed you yesterday as my friend and I took a road trip to Keane, New Hampshire and right below Mount Monadnock. This was a beautiful drive to Keane and seeing glimpses of Mount Monadnock as we were driving to Keane. I can remember the hike the you too up to Mt.Monadnock. Looking forward to the next video😎😎😎.

We went all the way to where the road ends in Denali in 2009. The reason they did not let people drive all the way in was mainly for safety. The road is narrow, many areas only one vehicle at a time. It was all gravel and no guardrails. This is due to asphalt and rails add to melting the permafrost in the area. The roads so narrow that buses had to stop at widening in road then signal to the other bus which one was to go 1st. Believe it was scary even when not driving. That was the reasons they gave us about not allowing public driving. I wish you could of gone all the way in. The scenery does get better. But Mother Nature can be mean and land slides and other events can cut out some great areas. They had some trails at Grand Canyon wash out this year and many couldn’t go on trails. Bad year for the parks I guess. I’ll try to send you a drawing I did of Mt McKinley while I was staying in Denali in2009. Hopefully you both get to go when roads are open again.
@Patrick_Ross Жыл бұрын
A bit of trivia: The mountain was, indeed, still officially Mt McKinley in 2009, but was changed to Denali in 2016. Most Alaskans, however, shunned the name McKinley and always called North America’s tallest peak Denali.

To be honest, it's the highest peak in the world. Everest just sits on higher ground. Technically Hawaii volcano is larger, starting from the ocean floor.
@ecor150 Жыл бұрын
Denali has a greater prominence than Everest, which is why it's soooo high in appearance and enormous.

Did you know that beavers do not like the sound of moving water? This is reason they build dams to restrict flow of water.
@lauraslanesvanlifetravels Жыл бұрын
And I think your right about the "discouraging" us from going into parks...wouldn't be surprised if one day we have to "earn" our way into them...lots of restrictions I think are coming in the name of "saving" the planet from us very bad humans! How dare we exist and walk in the parks and forests! We should just stay inside all the time! 🙄

Wow! Biden owns that pizza shop?! Thanks for the info! 🤣🤣
@Patrick_Ross Жыл бұрын
Politics has nothing to do with the price of the pizza. I’ve been to the restaurants outside of Denali National Park dozens of times since 1979 and they’ve always had outrageous prices. The vast majority of tourists visiting Alaska are wealthy enough to afford jacked up prices and the vendors take full advantage of it.
