My question is, they seemed to find a lot of little things wrong with your stock engine. How long before something major failed

I think you are going to run into problems with the stock beehive valve springs. Should've upgraded while the heads were off. There are already several reports of the HD valve springs breaking. Check out the Moonshine HD channel and watch the video they did on valve springs.

Only SE springs are reported breaking. Don’t need new springs with a 472 cam. Stiffer springs put a lot of pressure on a single cam.

I didn't get why they left those in either.

Great channel. The abrasive on the valves was most worrisome. Leaky guides and an undersized oil ring were contributors to the oil usage. I am seriously considering buying a Harley, but some of Harley’s sloppiness gives me pause.

So many known engineering flaws and defective materials in the Harley process. All of these faults and flaws in a 9,000 mile motor. Live and learn. Children, spend your money wisely. Glad you seem happy with the rebuilt motor. Anything less would truly be a tragedy. Happy highways.

I’m thinking he will address the cost after everything is complete. Not only mechanically, but all the videos he’s gonna do. He may be getting a discount because these videos will bring in business for Zippers.

It would be great if we could get a ballpark price on this. I've got a Multistrada and am looking for a 2nd bike to cruise with the wife. I'm looking at the Ultra Limited or the K1600 GTL. I know, very different motorcycles, but I am looking for alternatives and have monetary limitations. Ultra- my idea of a fantastic looking bike, but not very smooth or quick. GTL- the power and engine refinement I crave, but as good looking as am old riding lawnmower. Both are in my budget range, but I'm afraid I'll need to spend a ridiculous amount of money on the HD to make real power. The Harley will start at 3k more than the BMW. I'm guessing the mods Tall is getting will cost 7-10k. That makes the HD cost 10-13K more, and I bet it's still slower. On a side note, I have only had sport bikes and standards. I'm 55yo and have been riding for 40 years. My heaviest bike was 540 lbs. I have to be honest and say that the thought of 800lbs+ has me concerned. I would appreciate any insight, discussions, and views. BTW- Tall, you make some awesome videos. Thank you.

Walking Tall, If I had all of your money I'd burn mine! Congrats on your new engine but if you wanted something "faster" a stock BMW would be your best bet. My Stock BMW would destroy anything out there with performance mods done to it and has the longevity to boot. I also have a Harley Davidson and use it as a "cruiser". Harley-Davidsons aren't meant to be "hot rods". There are SO MANY weak links as you've seen. The rear belt will be the next thing that will need to be upgraded, as well as the transmission and on and on and on.

I can't agree more Kenneth, I also own a Harley-Davidson Electra Glide ultra, tons of fun to ride and very reliable stock. I'ts not my desire to race it with anyone. I guess it’s just a matter of making the bike yours; however you don’t want it to be as expensive and reliable as your X LOL!!

@@UnrulyRider yep, that's the honest to God truth. That's why I was being so brutally honest about "chasing the next problem" because Harley-Davidsons aren't designed for big HP like that, THEY'RE CRUISERS! I learned my lesson from my 1st bike, I kept throwing power add on's to it and it would break something else along the way CONSTANTLY. I got SO fed up with it that I ended up selling it for a loss. It was a "White Elephant" meaning it was comprised of MANY different aftermarket components. I'm sure the ensuing owners are to this day scratching their heads trying to figure out why their replacement HD part doesn't match with what i installed.

That's the pot calling the kettle black. The only bike out there with a worse reliability rating than the Harley-Davidson is the BMW. Multiple years running.

The only option for you drive line wise is to get an S&S heavy duty woven carbon fiber secondary drive belt and remove your existing genuine HD (kevlar) belt. It will snap that HD belt like a twig guaranteed.
