I also have a Street Glide Special and a Road King. Best of both worlds, IMO HD' two best bikes. Love riding my RK and seeing the road in front of me with no fairing.

I just put the zippers 117” kit on my 107” 2017 road king with a redshift 468 cam. What a difference. Love the new power and the road king is such a great bike. Love mine.

RK is my favorite HD I've ridden and I've ridden them all but the Ultra. FOR ME and how it FITS ME, its a great bike. a RK with the 124 zipper sleeper kit and the 475 cam? Prodigy front wheel, full LED custom dynamics lights............are you getting a custom made detach able fairing like Adam Sandoval's lady has? Yea, since you're breaking it down, the standard works best for your application............man the jeep, the SG, now a road king? god bless ya Tall! good for you man!

I have the same exact bike. I have a 2018 with a 107. 2019 came out with 114. I put on 21's in the front and changed the rear to 16's with air ride. Road Kings ride like a dream! I like the idea of nothing being in front of me when I ride. If I want music, I cut out my bag put on some Fosgate's, it runs via bluetooth and believe me l can still hear my music at 80mph with a full helmet. Good luck on your choice and ride safe!

You should also look at a Heritage 114. It's lighter,handles better and you can put hard bags on it. I bought the 2020 Heritage last month all black love it!

100% agree. That's the 2018 color. Had that one myself and I miss it dearly. I love the color so much I've actually been considering repainting my 2020 River Rock Gray Denim to Industrial Gray Denim.

100%. Stock is just fine. But a complete Custom Dynamic LED lighting upgrade surround would be a must have. I would also install a set of black chrome driving lamps on either side of that headlight nacelle too. Just my .2. Rode safe and ride often. Road King is about “less is more”. Peace.

You are right about starting out with the RK Classic versus the Special. No sense paying extra for items that you are going to change out anyway. I have a 2020 RK Classic with 107. The only extra added to the bike is a slip on......it’s perfect.....no need to do anything else. You may buy it and then decide not to change anything. Perfect bike for doing 40-60mph in the twisties!

I put the mirrors one inch forward! You have more sight and your hands dont hit this things anymore. You have to tilt the postdoor in de windscreen to avoid buffeting! Thats amazing. I had a 107 yrs ago and drove to half EU with ease. I just traded my Ultra ltd 2021 in for a 2023 vivid black RKS. I change in januari ‘24…..😘

That’s a good looking Road King Special. It could be a nice complement to your bike...the “light-black” complements your Street Glide well already, even if you don’t change the color. I think you could pull off an amazing project with that RKS. 👍🏾

Even though you plan to replace many parts, there will be many black parts you may retain and they add up fast $$$. Bag hardware, trans cover, primary cover, tank console,etc. Go with a custom black paint job! Would look great with the Krause/ohlins fork tubes!

I'm only 6'4 and went from a 16 Ultra Limited to a 20 RKS this year. It was a great decision. Screamin Eagle slipons on that new engine sound great, and the flush mount gas cap and fuel gauge look great with that color. Give it some serious consideration and I think you'll really like it. Oh, and a different seat does make a huge difference on the RKS.

I have an. 08' Road King Anniversary..probably will be goin to n Indian Springfield just because it's more comfortable for a taller rider n u get a bit more for ur money..A standard makes more sense if ur goin to do all the add ons..Ride Safe

If you get a special just switch bags with your Street glide getting both sets painted would still be cheaper than buying another set of bags. But then again you probably wouldn't have any problem finding someone willing to trade you with standard bags.

Gotta have a windshoeld and lowers with floorboards and the riding position, the wind wothout lowers literaly blows your legs off the floorboards. I like all the guages on my streetglide, the stupid radio i could do without.

Tall, go with the Special! ABS standard equipment. Personally I like the stretched bags, wish I had them on my 15 SGS. You are right about the King being more nimble than the Glide. It's hard to believe they are the same frame and basically the only difference is the fairing!

A lot of the weight difference is the lack of a batwing. It makes the steering feel much lighter and more responsive. I have a 2017 RK and love it.

I have a 2018 Standard Road King. The thing you don't get with the Special is the passing lamps and bag guards. I put LEDs all the way around on mine and have had little problems with traffic but that seems to be an issue everywhere. I have loved the Road King. My longest ride was from Colorado to Iowa (over two days) then back. It ate the miles well. For the most part, it is a no-frills bagger.

Roadkings are amazing bikes, and this thing could end up wicked with your thoughts. I've got am 18 Heritage with HD stage 2, and a 17 SGS with Reaper 465 stage 2. Both have that extra pep but work great for around town and distance trips. Looking forward to seeing what you do in this build.

Stock can get the job done, but a suspension makes a world of difference in distance and handling, and I'm not talking about lower either. Something you need 100% of the time.

On a positive note; I created a bracket system the allows me to rock the top of the shield forward and backward with the bottom mounts as the pivot point. Pushing the shield forward reduces the radical rear-leaning angle and has the effect of raising the shield by 2-3 inches. It raises the bottom of the bubble over your head eliminating the wind on the forehead you get with the factory geometry. Also locks (bolts) the shield to the bike. Improves security.

Digging the color. Make it your own. I think the special tends to lend itself to customizations more so than the standard. The standard is a classic look and the special just begs to be customized. I like your philosophy on just go and get lost. Can't seem to make the time but working on it.

I had one for two years and then it got stolen. Insurance paid out in full, and this was the time to reconsider my choice and go with a Street Glide or Road Glide. So I bought another Road King. They're that good.

I've always liked the classic looks of a Road King, but it felt clunky and top heavy compared to my Indian Springfield. I'm only 5'6" but the Springfield is so nimble and smooth for such a big bike. I love it, no regrets at all.

107???? I thought you were building a twin cam? Been to that T/A Truck stop many times. Usually try to stop into bootlegger to look around and maybe grab a t-shirt or two. Change your mirror extensions and those mirrors will be out of your way. You will absolutely love the Road King. I’m not a fan of denim paint. Find a Road King Standard. Any color that’s not Denim. It’s definitely the colder weather. I rode my bike last weekend for the last ride of the season in Central New York. Folks already aren’t used to seeing motorcycles this time of year. It’s a seasonal thing.

I have a 2017 RKS so my decision is biased. Get the bike and I think you’ll enjoy building it out. The gloss black stands out vs the chrome. Plus you already have chrome so get the special.👍🏾

Do a price comparison as far as powder coating all of your parts with a standard and see if getting this special is cheaper. From what I've researched it usually is cheaper just to buy blacked out parts that are already on the bike rather than powder coating and you can pretty much pick up smaller bags anywhere on Amazon that will already come in satin black if you do end up with the blacked out road King

Not the same color. This is Charcoal Denim, you've got Industrial Gray Denim. I had the 18 in IGD, but someone else liked it too, and they figured they wanted it more than me without asking. I'm getting a 2020 in River Rock Gray Denim in a few months.

Hey Tall, thanks as always for the ride along! I personally love that color and think a light black/black build would be awesome. Yes you may not need all that the special has on it as you build out and replace but that one looks great and is a great starting platform that may allow you to do some pretty unusual adds? If there is a standard out there you find, sure as there is probably a ton of them for sale. Go with your gut, but I thought that was a sweet looking bike that will build out great.

I got a Road Glide someone wrecked and did not make it (didn't know it before I bought it)....of course there were some other things also going on with him at the time also....but if it was my bike I would rather have someone fix it and enjoy it...instead of it rusting away in a salvage yard...

I would go with a Road Glide change out the Harley-Davidson parts and build a 131 monster put the short bags on it and just make it 1/4 mile hustler!!! And keep the engine all blacked out change out the clutch packs, that color is a difference!
