Neither at first. I took my 2007 96” to about the same output as a 103 by adding Andrew’s 37H cams, power commander V, Performance Machine Intake w/ K&N filter, Vance & Hines long shots. 77Hp and 90 tq. Pretty happy with the results as it gave me great mid range and useable power. To get anymore I’d have to go bigger than 103 imo since, the cams would/should be changed no matter what bigger bore kit there is to go to. PS: I’d love to see a video explaining dynamic compression vs. static. Most folks don’t grasp the importance of that and you explain stuff pretty well.

I did it even cheaper. All I did on my 103 was take the heads off and sent to zippers for most mild cnc job they do. Called the 1.8 cnc. It gets a 1.850 intake valve &1.610 EX VALVE. 699$. Then bolt it back together with.030 cometic head gasket. The head deck & gasket brought it up to 10.2:1 compression. 38$ for gaskets. Already had the Andrews 57h cams & power vision. All I will say is sometimes we pay for intangibles, like customer service. If you ever deal with Fuel Moto, you would have no issue paying their prices for their kits. The product knowledge and support from those guys is unreal. They stand by what they sell, and have seen and done it all. These budget kits are fine for budget rebuilds for salvage bikes, but I'd be concerned with prices that low. In short, it's probably worth it to eat Kraft Dinner for an extra 2-3 months if it means you can get something quality that will last. Just my humble opinion...

I’m working on 88tc motors, pretty much exclusively. I have a 2000 fxst that runs like a violated great simian… i just acquired a 2001 fxst for cheap from a friend… a twin to my runner… it only needs a little wiring and periphery and it’ll be a second runner. So that’s a basic stable. Two runners… once those are both up and solid, I’ll be acquiring an 88tc motor… it could be busted, but best for cheapest will be the opp i take. So I’ll work that motor on the benches over the winter, and get it solid… the first runner that takes a poop, I’ll do a straight swap! That’s my goal: total independence… After that? Transmissions! That D&D is a damn good pipe, it makes some power on a Harley! It definently sounds you have a valve seal. If it's running good and not causing a major problem l'd give her hell and just keep an eye on it. Unless your getting some blow by in that cylinder, but with 12k miles that shouldn't be happening. If it was a fuel injected bike l would be looking at the VE on that cylinder. Being carbed it's definently mechanically, unless there is some fluke by that cylinder getting more fuel.

The 2007 has the updated hydraulic tensioners so no worries there, the 2007's have a compensator that can be an issue. The numbers on the charts are with the Screamin Eagle mufflers (basically stock mufflers) and the Screamin Eagle Street Tuner. So with a quality performance exhaust and say a Power Vision tune, you can get quite a bit more out of these kits.

@GixxerFoo
@GixxerFoo 4 жыл бұрын
The valve springs are dependent on the cam you're using. You can run a performance cam that will work with the stock valve springs even with these big bore kits. You can run a big bore kit with the stock heads and cams, but the stock cams are really going to hold it back. You'll get some gain but not nearly what you would with a aftermarket cam swap, even with one that works with the stock heads and valve springs.

My recent bike is a 2012 dyna wide glide 103 driving it more than all three of the others. I guess twin cams are my thing now. I like the cams video on the twin cams. I like the Twin Cams myself over the M8, the M8 is great and powerful but I like the two valve TC. The price has really come down on them and parts are plentiful, so you have a 96 just engine and trans? It's low miles and you could really spend some time working on it since it's no in a bike. @GixxerFoo
@GixxerFoo 4 жыл бұрын
The gear set is expensive and you'll have to check the shaft run out, it's going to have to be .002 or less. It's about a 4 to 5 hour job with a labor rate of up to $100 an hour at a shop, this is just ballpark figures though. Just make sure you check the shaft run out before ordering a gear driven cam set. That way if you're out of spec your not stuck with a cam set you can't use or you have to tear down the entire motor to have your crank redone. A great alternative is upgrading the the hydraulic tensioners, it's a lot cheaper and you don't have to worry about shaft run out.

Hell l am here in Oklahoma too, might explain why l saw the ad 😆🤷‍♂️. The 510 cam gives you some more rev range, it's a bolt in cam but with the head job in that kit it bumps the compression ratio. Which is awesome for a twin cam because they love compression. That cam comes on with a bone stock at about 3k rpm and peaks about 5500. They are definently making the power they advertise.

Going back stock and you can get cylinders from Drag specialties, they run about $200 each and a piston kit from Wiesco would be about $200 or so. That's about the same price as a 95 inch drop on kit from Vtwin Mfg.

One of your recent videos you said I could get about the same hp and Torq out of my 103 with s&s 570 or wood 555 cams. And that’s much cheaper and easier. Unless I’m remembering wrong.

Yes, a cam swap is the absolute best bang for the buck. Especially with a 103, a 103 with the right cam will produce close to 100 horsepower even with the stock compression. Now if you take a 103 and 10.5:1 compression with a cam, power will jump to well over 100 horsepower.

worried about the 110 cyl. cracking on bottom what do you think ? jerry

They really don't have any cylinder spigot issues as they are cast with a extremely high tensile strength to make up for the thinner spigot. Hammer does the same thing with their 1275 sport kit.

@@GixxerFoo thanks, im going to try a set with the cams you told me about.

You might find a set of cams is more than enough, a good aftermarket cam produces some serious power.

I’m looking at taking my 103 and brining it to a 107. Is a big bore kit worth it? I’m also doing cams the s&s 570. How much horse can I expect going to a 107?
@GixxerFoo
@GixxerFoo 3 жыл бұрын
Really depends on your heads and compression you're looking at. A 107 with mild compression and the 570 c should put you up around 100.

Can you reuse heads if you were 103 going to 103 stock?
@GixxerFoo

Yeah you can reuse your heads, I would recommend cleaning the up and depending how many miles are on them maybe having the gone through.

😄🤔👍 that's some damn good advice. All work is for nothing if you don't get a proper tune, you'll leave all kinds of power on the table without a good dyno tune.

Better to bore your cylinders to your new pistons vs buying a kit . The kit are not matched to each other , they do work but not as good.

Not a bad idea at all, it's more money but you know you're getting a quality product. These kits have Wiesco pistons and rings but they cylinders are of "foreign origin" is what they state.
