Neither at first. I took my 2007 96” to about the same output as a 103 by adding Andrew’s 37H cams, power commander V, Performance Machine Intake w/ K&N filter, Vance & Hines long shots. 77Hp and 90 tq. Pretty happy with the results as it gave me great mid range and useable power. To get anymore I’d have to go bigger than 103 imo since, the cams would/should be changed no matter what bigger bore kit there is to go to. PS: I’d love to see a video explaining dynamic compression vs. static. Most folks don’t grasp the importance of that and you explain stuff pretty well.

All I will say is sometimes we pay for intangibles, like customer service. If you ever deal with Fuel Moto, you would have no issue paying their prices for their kits. The product knowledge and support from those guys is unreal. They stand by what they sell, and have seen and done it all. These budget kits are fine for budget rebuilds for salvage bikes, but I'd be concerned with prices that low. The 2007 has the updated hydraulic tensioners so no worries there, the 2007's have a compensator that can be an issue. That's what I'm talking about (Budget Friendly). Nice video, I have a 96 twin cam w/6 speed off a wreck with 15xxx miles and very interested in all things twin cam. I've had three Harley's in the last couple of years a 107 low rider a 114 fxdr and a road glide, I traded 2 and sold one. My recent bike is a 2012 dyna wide glide 103 driving it more than all three of the others. I guess twin cams are my thing now. I like the cams video on the twin cams. I have that 96 sitting on a crate and I'm scrounging parts for it. Thanks for sharing the knowledge.

I like the Twin Cams myself over the M8, the M8 is great and powerful but I like the two valve TC. The price has really come down on them and parts are plentiful, so you have a 96 just engine and trans? It's low miles and you could really spend some time working on it since it's no in a bike. Drop a 110 with some compression and some good cams in that motor.
@me2u2aswell4 жыл бұрын
@@GixxerFoo YES that sounds great. I go back and reference your videos frequently. I'm not sure what frame I can mount the engine in. For me less is more meaning no bagger. inherited a 03 FXSTS. After hearing horror stories about grenaded tensioners, I'd like to go gear driven. How much is reasonable to have a shop install?
@GixxerFoo4 жыл бұрын
The gear set is expensive and you'll have to check the shaft run out, it's going to have to be .002 or less. It's about a 4 to 5 hour job with a labor rate of up to $100 an hour at a shop, this is just ballpark figures though. Just make sure you check the shaft run out before ordering a gear driven cam set. That way if you're out of spec your not stuck with a cam set you can't use or you have to tear down the entire motor to have your crank redone. A great alternative is upgrading the the hydraulic tensioners, it's a lot cheaper and you don't have to worry about shaft run out.

@GixxerFoo4 жыл бұрын
Hell l am here in Oklahoma too, might explain why l saw the ad 😆🤷♂️. The 510 cam gives you some more rev range, it's a bolt in cam but with the head job in that kit it bumps the compression ratio. Which is awesome for a twin cam because they love compression. That cam comes on with a bone stock at about 3k rpm and peaks about 5500. They are definently making the power they advertise.

Just a cam swap would net you more gain than adding a big bore kit with the stock cams. A 96 with a Wood TW-222 cam, exhaust and tune can make close to 100hp. Honestly a big bore kit is a waste of money unless you change the stock cams out.
